Chapter 1325: Chapter 1326: Each One’s Battle
"Being able to sneak this close is impressive."
The corner of Feng Yuan’s mouth curved slightly as the greatsword in his hand moved in a bizarre manner—thrusting backward before suddenly shifting into a slashing motion midway. Black flames burst forth, striking the Shadow Doll and forcing it out of the void.
Watching the Shadow Doll engulfed in black flames, Feng Yuan swung his greatsword once before stabbing it forcefully into the ground. He said with a smirk,
"I’m not Xiao Ji, you know."
Ah Mu’s Seistal Stele intercepted the Flame Wolfhound that attempted to ambush him. Feng Yuan leapt up, stepping onto Cotton’s Nether Cross to evade the constriction of the Mud Monster. Meanwhile, the Beastmasters of those three spirit beasts focused their attacks on Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan.
Due to Ah Mu and Cotton having to provide support to Feng Yuan, their defensive capabilities were somewhat weakened. However, this had little impact on Dou Yanlan and Qi Chen.
After all, whether it was striving to match Feng Yuan’s offensive power or being influenced by his combat style over time, their independent combat capabilities were nothing to scoff at.
In the end, Feng Yuan and Ah Mu, together with their companions, were the first to resolve the threat posed by the three spirit beasts. As the beasts fell, their Beastmasters lost their combat strength—nothing could be done; not everyone was like Feng Yuan, able to unleash ultimate moves with no reliance on spirit beasts for support.
"You’re really something else."
A male among the three Beastmasters who had just been defeated walked up to Feng Yuan, who was in the middle of lecturing Xiao Ji, and offered a compliment. They were well aware Xiao Ji had been the first to withdraw from the fight, yet Feng Yuan still displayed remarkable combat prowess.
With an indignant flick of its tail feathers, Xiao Ji gave Feng Yuan a look of dissatisfaction, conveying its reluctance to engage with him. Yet this time, Feng Yuan did not try to appease it. Instead, he continued to explain something to it. After all, if he didn’t seize this opportunity to communicate with Xiao Ji, he wasn’t sure when another good chance might arise.
Xiao Ji’s tail feathers occasionally twitched as it lay sprawled on the ground, unwilling to move. At the same time, it started reflecting on Feng Yuan’s words—had it really made a mistake?
Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan approached and, noticing the dejected Xiao Ji on the ground, asked,
"How’s it doing?"
"It’s fine. Don’t worry about it; you two go find training partners. So, how are you feeling?"
While gently combing through Xiao Ji’s feathers with his fingers, Feng Yuan smiled and said this to Qi Chen. Qi Chen scratched his head and replied,
"Well, it’s definitely different from our usual training, but..."
"Let Agunas heal you both. This is a rare opportunity, so make the most of it and train more. Xiao Ji should recover fairly soon."
Since Xiao Ji was a Death-type Spirit Beast, Agunas’s Rain of Life rarely had any significant effect on it. As Xiao Ji’s powers grew stronger, standard healing moves containing life force were becoming almost entirely ineffective on it.
Glancing at Feng Yuan, Xiao Ji begrudgingly shifted itself. It didn’t want to miss the opportunity to fight alongside Feng Yuan. But its injuries weren’t recovering quickly enough. Seeing this, Feng Yuan chuckled, shook his head, and pulled out an ink-black Ancient Book, giving it a light tap.
A shroud of black mist enveloped Xiao Ji. Under the influence of Death-type energy, Xiao Ji’s wounds began healing at a rapid pace. Observing Yang Hongzhi fighting fiercely in the distance, Feng Yuan tapped Xiao Ji on the head and said,
"Look at them, and then reflect on what you were just doing."
Following Feng Yuan’s gesture, Xiao Ji turned and saw Yang Hongzhi standing at the rear while Najia used supportive moves to continuously bolster Xiao Hei and Xiao Hui’s strength.
Unlike Xiao Ji, Xiao Hei never strayed far from Xiao Hui. As for their opponent, though aided by protective spirit beasts, the opposing spirit beasts were no match for Xiao Hui. Once Xiao Hui rammed through one, Xiao Hei seized the opportunity to dart in and tear into the opposing frontliner.
Nor was Xiao Hei as battle-hungry as Xiao Ji. If Xiao Hui seemed unable to provide support, Xiao Hei would swiftly retreat, without hesitation or regard for whether its target still had any retaliatory ability.
"That Xiao Hei sure is..."
Noticing Xiao Hei’s behavior, Feng Yuan found it somewhat amusing. Its actions weren’t purely cooperative; there was clearly an element of cowardice—or rather, Xiao Hei was entirely unwilling to get hurt.
Still, that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. After all, a support-oriented spirit beast’s primary roles were either to safeguard the Beastmaster or to protect the main attacker.
Not every support-type spirit beast had the immense size of Ah Mu. Had Qi Chen not possessed spirit beast weaponry, Ah Mu might not have opted for long-distance guarding.
Typically, Beastmasters had to figure out ways to protect themselves. But Qi Chen was different; he also had a degree of combat capability. Although Dou Yanlan wasn’t on par with Qi Chen, Cotton, serving as the team’s support, had an array of interference-based ultimate moves.
With Dou Yanlan’s agility combined with Cotton’s skills, dodging most attacks wasn’t too difficult.
However, if the opponent were someone like Qi Chen’s Ah Mu—rugged, durable, and packing a punch—it’d become dangerous. Although Dou Yanlan might elude attacks with dexterous maneuvers, Cotton wasn’t an assassin-type Spirit Beast.
Spirit beasts as cumbersome as Ah Mu were most vulnerable to assassin-type attackers. On the other hand, against Cotton, a misstep amidst a wide-area assault could spell disaster. After all, Cotton wasn’t nimble enough to easily evade Ah Mu’s range attacks altogether.
Of course, Qi Chen understood that achieving perfection in all areas was impossible. So while Ah Mu had this glaring weakness, he wasn’t going to obsess over fixing it—at least not until all other aspects of Ah Mu’s growth had been fully realized.
Najia lived up to its reputation as a support-focused Divine Beast. While its ultimate moves lacked offensive capabilities, the cumulative effects significantly boosted Xiao Hei and Xiao Hui’s overall strength—essentially doubling their combat prowess.
This was mainly due to their inability to harness higher levels of power themselves. Najia’s ultimate moves differed from the White Wolf Deity’s Coming of the Future, which could forcibly elevate a spirit beast to Legendary Level. However, Coming of the Future had minimal effects on spirit beasts above Legendary Level.
In contrast, Najia’s skills worked regardless of whether the target was Legendary Level, Sacred Beast Level, or even Divine Beast Level—albeit with less drastic amplifications.
Scratching Xiao Ji’s head gently, Feng Yuan smiled and said,
"Alright, up you go. Let’s check on what Long Boduo is up to. Once your injuries are mostly healed, we’ll continue. But this time, no more solo acts, got it?"
Looking at Feng Yuan, Xiao Ji stood up with a reluctant expression. Its tail feathers swayed repeatedly—perhaps an indication that Feng Yuan’s words had sunk in.
Long Boduo and Big Cat weren’t hard to locate. Experiencing the thrill of being a Beastmaster for the first time, Long Boduo was naturally excited, causing quite the commotion. Coupled with Big Cat’s inherently bizarre abilities, they attracted a crowd of spectators.
After squeezing through the throng, Feng Yuan saw Long Boduo commanding Big Cat to attack its opponent. This time, Big Cat didn’t use a Nien Wheel replica, but what was with the strange video-game character? Was this really one of Big Cat’s ultimate moves?
Scratching his head with a peculiar look on his face, Feng Yuan eyed Big Cat, clearly baffled by how its "gaming path" had led to such an odd form of attack.
Clad in a priest’s robe, Big Cat swayed and mewled while conjuring a holy radiance that enveloped several knights. Their swords shimmered with a sacred glow, appearing to be imbued with enhancements.
"Big Cat sure is... unique."
Stroking the back of Xiao Ji’s neck, Feng Yuan remarked in astonishment. The knights charged forward, relentlessly attacking Big Cat’s opponent. Granted, a single ultimate move could likely obliterate these knights, shattering them into fragments of digital data that would vanish. But let’s not forget—these knights were mere constructs of Big Cat’s ultimate move.
Judging from Big Cat’s ability to replicate and utilize Nien Wheels, summoning these knights likely consumed minimal energy.
As Feng Yuan had expected, Big Cat’s fighting style revolved around incessantly summoning minions while hiding behind them to cast "magic" buffs.
The opposing Beastmaster tried to disrupt Big Cat’s rhythm. However, with Long Boduo standing guard alongside it, there was no chance of success. Unlike Feng Yuan, Long Boduo didn’t take a measured approach to conserving power. A Ghost Barrier was promptly deployed—not only did it shield Big Cat, but it also proved impervious to any attempts to break through.
Agunas threw an exasperated glance at Long Boduo before swiping its paw. A flash of light streaked by, instantly shattering the barrier. If not for being specifically asked to help dismantle inappropriate moves, Agunas would have had no interest in intervening at all.
