Chapter 80: Son

Nothing could beat a child’s imagination.

They had an innocence, vision, and imagination that no adult could hold a candle to.

Yun Qiqi was easily such an example.

She went completely silent, thinking deeply about the name that would suit this little creature.

"I need to touch him," she said, nearing the dragon.

Noa smirked. "I doubt he will let you, though. He loves me too much to leave my side."

Mia agreed from the side. "He wouldn’t even come close to me."

She sounded hurt when she said it, her shoulders and head lowering towards the ground.

"He will like me," Yun Qiqi announced confidently.

She took one step forward.

The dragon lifted his head sharply, his bright eyes scanning the room to find the culprit who had dared to interrupt his time with his dad.

His gaze paused on Yun Qiqi.

The girl stepped again, closing the distance.

The dragon remained still, staring at her with an unreadable expression.

"He won’t bite her, right?" Mia asked, concerned.

"With what?" Noa questioned. "He doesn’t even have a single tooth, and he is friendly."

"What if he breathes fire in the room? He can scorch the entire apartment to the ground. You said he had high mana aptitude."

Noa narrowed his eyes.

What Mia had said perfectly made sense.

In any other circumstances, he would have been more careful and wouldn’t have gambled his sisters’ lives.

But this situation was different.

He knew the dragon before him—at least that’s what he felt.

There was a familiar sensation between them.

A connection.

A bond.

However, the bond shouldn’t have been this strong.

No other contracted beasts had such a deep-rooted attachment to their contractors.

With each touch he had made, this unexplainable link deepened even more, causing Noa’s heart to stir as if he were actually playing with his son.

A weight also settled in his heart.

Not from pressure, but from responsibility.

It wasn’t like owning a pet. Not like managing his store or any other employee.

Strangely, it felt closer, like a family.

Noa didn’t immediately say it aloud, but the feeling and the thought it had brought stuck in his heart.

And now he needed advice on his name.

Yun Qiqi stepped again.

This time, she didn’t hold herself back, taking sharper, longer steps to finally bridge the distance. She extended her hand, planning to see how the dragon would feel.

Mia and Noa both expected the dragon to smack the little girl’s hand.

He didn’t hold back with Mia, and there was a sound prediction that he would do it once more.

But to their surprise, the dragon purred.

Lowering his head, he allowed Yun Qiqi to stroke his scales and feel his soft belly.

"Come on!" Mia exclaimed instantly.

It was now her time to pout in frustration and maybe throw some hands, too. "That’s not fair. I wanted to play with him as well."

Noa could only glance at her and shrug his shoulders.

There was nothing he could do in this situation.

He couldn’t just force his new family member to do something he didn’t want to do.

So Mia had to toughen up and deal with it.

Yun Qiqi, however, looked completely unconcerned, her hands moving constantly without stopping even for a moment.

She, much like the dragon who enjoyed receiving massages, also liked giving them.

"Umbu," she announced suddenly.

"You mean his name?" Noa answered before his other sister could, causing her eyes to roll backward after seeing his smug expression.

"Yes," Yun Qiqi nodded confidently. "I think it suits him."

Noa thought for a heartbeat.

It was a name for his dragon son, and he had to think at least.

But there were no better options in his head, so he cheered and agreed with an excited voice.

"Let’s go with that. It feels like I am saying something soft and round. So his name will be Umbu from this moment on."

The little girl began giggling.

Her hand movement quickened, which caused Umbu to purr more loudly, filling the entire room with his echoing sounds.

"Hee—krrrk! Ffihh!"

It came out like a squeaky noise, sounding like a short giggle, as if he were mimicking Yun Qiqi.

But his voice was more energetic.

"Do you like your name, Umbu?" Noa asked, raising his eyebrows.

"Puhhh," the little guy responded, rubbing his head on Noa’s leg.

He, however, moved his leg suddenly, causing the dragon to stumble and roll over the ground like a ball.

With agile legs and hands, Mia gently poked his belly through the opening.

"I got you!" she declared proudly, tickling the dragon with her full strength.

"Puhhh. Puhhh."

To escape her firm grasp, Umbu struggled, rolling across the floor, only to bump softly into the chair.

The sound this little crash made was louder than expected.

It felt like the room should have exploded, but thankfully, everything looked intact, except Umbu, who glared at Mia, his eyes watering.

"Puhhh!" he said to Noa, almost pointing at the culprit.

"You two should get along with each other. She wants to play with you," Noa explained to the dragon, but based on the expression it was showing, his attempts were fruitless.

"What if I feed him?"

Mia had an idea.

She didn’t waste time and stood up, signaling others to follow her.

Noa wanted to eat, too.

The plain rice with veggies wasn’t something he wanted to start this fresh and wonderful day.

He wished to eat something with meat.

And the thought that he was going to taste something that Mia would make thrilled him even more.

Yun Qiqi and Umbu had similar personalities.

They couldn’t just stay put, even for a second, walking and then running around the house.

Evan was still nowhere to be found.

Mia was still worried about him, making enough portions for everyone to eat.

Fast forward half an hour, her signature steak was cooked. She put it down on the table with a proud grin, steam rising from the seared beef.

Before she or even anyone could blink, Umbu lunged forward.

He buried his head into the plate, devouring it without chewing, when someone walked inside the kitchen, exclaiming in surprise.

"What’s going on here?"
