Chapter 74: Slime

The slime was colorless.

Or maybe it seemed like a blend of every color.

’That’s not either,’ Noa thought, his hands still moving to catch the uninvited criminal who dared to listen to their conversation.

Perhaps a mix of every color should have created a white shade.

But the slime lacked shades as well, appearing devoid of every possible color imaginable.

It also slithered around the floor, cold and distant, absorbing all light and leaving behind no sound, no heat, no trail.

Noa watched it appear and reappear.

The slime passed behind rows of books, then vanished entirely.

Its absence lasted only for a moment before it emerged once more, nearing Mia. A shapeless blob of energy, barely visible, was drawn to his little, adorable sister, and there was no way he would stay still.

So he continued his attempts to catch it.

No one else reacted.

Noa was the only one who noticed the slime.

With fingers spread and palms open, he reached out carefully. The thing felt his presence, twitching before darting away.

Noa lunged at it.

Though his group couldn’t see the colorless slime, he was still visible, causing Mia and Yun Qiqi to exchange glances.

"What are you doing?" the former asked, frowning.

He ignored her question, increasing his speed.

Finally, Noa’s hand closed around this formless energy, clutching it tightly.

The slime resisted.

It wanted to slip between his fingers, but he held on, feeling its faint pulse. Then the thing glowed, and suddenly, everyone turned to him.

The blob was visible this time.

It still lacked color, but its glowing effect was enough to catch their attention.

"What is it?" Mia asked.

Xue Hanly also seemed interested, stepping forward to inspect the creature.

Yun Qiqi acted the same way. She walked on her tiptoes, closing the distance with playful eyes and a mischievous expression.

But the slime hovered above Noa’s palm.

It showed properties everyone could recognize.

Especially Mia, as she was the one who had experienced them only moments ago.

Swirling around like a calm tornado, it had traces of fire, wind, water, lightning, earth, shadow, and aether—all blended with each other.

"This... this thing came from me?" the girl asked, staring at the condensed mass in Noa’s hands.

Seris wanted to explain.

She knew a thing or two about this slime, even if her knowledge was limited.

But Noa spoke first, guessing.

"It’s materialized essence. The effect of the explosion before, as it was born when every elemental type collided together."

The novels he read, the games he played, and the time he spent on Ligma united to form this theory.

As someone who had shared the same interests for years, Mia quickly understood what he was trying to say. That’s why her eyes narrowed.

She also formed another hypothesis.

"Okay... hear me out," she started, gaining attention from people around her.

Even Seris crossed her arms, clearly interested.

"I thought they were fighting at first. The pressure they exerted and the energy they absorbed misled me. What if they wanted to combine from the beginning? And the explosion was a result of a wish.

As for its remains, they scattered to sync into that thing."

She ended her theory by pointing at Noa.

She was pointing at the slime, to be exact, a slight smugness appearing on her face.

"So, it’s like an elemental waste."

Noa concluded from her speech, glancing at Seris to deny or agree with their observation.

Mia, meanwhile, shook her head.

"More like elemental juice, who has nowhere to go."

Noa shrugged, noting her discovery.

Seris clapped suddenly, air combing her hair to meet her needs, before she opened her mouth.

"I couldn’t explain it better. That’s right, these slimes are created when elemental energy reaches its absolute limit and explodes. But it happens only with one or two elements at a time, birthing weak creatures such as this with really short lifespans."

She straightened her back, her hand resting on a huge book in front of her.

"But this thing. It was created by not three but all seven elements. Something I doubt would happen naturally in nature."

"So it’s safe to assume that it will be stronger with a longer lifespan?" Mia asked, this time nearing the slime to take it in her hands.

Seris didn’t speak.

She just shook her head.

"No?" Mia asked again, rubbing the slime’s soft surface.

"No," Seris said this time, grinning. "It’s just immortal."

Silence didn’t have a chance to settle. Mia was too starstruck to remain quiet even for a second.

"What? Does it have an infinite lifespan?"

To her surprise, Seris shook her head again, but she was kind enough to explain on the spot.

"No. It just can’t die. Can’t be killed and can’t be damaged."

Noa gulped, staring at the slipping creature in his hand.

It was heavier than it looked, sending pain in his wrists and back simultaneously, as if asking him to rest.

But he didn’t give up, listening to the conversation with interest.

’I think it was about time,’ he thought, chuckling to himself. ’Time for me to recruit an immortal.’

The thing is, even True Immortals could be killed.

If destroying their bodies wasn’t enough, extinguishing their souls would do. And if that didn’t work, why don’t you try both of them at the same time?

It would surely send them to the reincarnation cycle.

But Mia had somehow created a creature that defied this simple rule of the universe.

Seris didn’t allow the siblings or their group to waste more time thinking, deciding to continue and finalize her explanation.

"But Master Noa is the only one who can tame it."

She dropped it like a bombshell.

"Because he was the owner of the toy that was used for the vortexes to appear, the slime would only be useful for him."

It actually made sense.

The Fidget Spinner was Noa’s product.

The very place they stood right now belonged to him—hell, even Seris worked for him. Of course, the elemental waste that was born from Mia’s first attempt to control it would belong to him.

Thankfully, it wouldn’t affect her ability to control the elements in any shape or form.

"The hall is dangerous for the mortal mind. I think you should hurry up and start learning how to use that fireball technique you wanted."

Seris said, snapping Noa and Mia out of the daze.
