Chapter 153: Flames Above, Sand Below

"This..."

The black sand soldier didn’t know how to answer for a second.

Noticing his subordinate’s weird look, the center army general realized he’d gotten too excited and let his inner thoughts slip out.

Without changing his expression, he kept asking:

"Attack? What attack?"

"General, it’s not clear right now.

The guards on duty barely heard attack drums from the vanguard."

"Just attack drums?"

The center army general immediately felt like he’d gotten worked up over nothing.

Just then, another black sand soldier came running in like crazy to report:

"Gen... General!

The vanguard camp’s suddenly on fire!

I think there’s a major enemy attack!"

"Fire?"

The center army general got excited all over again.

If the military tents were burning, that meant the vanguard was in deep trouble, and whatever was attacking them had to be something else.

This also meant that vanguard general jerk would very likely get killed!

"Pass along my orders—the whole army stays put and guards against enemy sneak attacks!"

What this order really meant was simple: no soldiers were allowed to go help out.

The deputy next to him said quietly:

"General, isn’t this kinda wrong?

The King’s about to wake up. If the King finds out..."

He didn’t finish, but the meaning was clear—this kind of refusing to help could very well get the King mad at them.

After hearing this, the center army general laughed like crazy:

"The center army’s most important job is keeping the King safe!

Besides, the vanguard hasn’t even sent anyone asking for help.

Any way you look at it, I can’t send troops to back them up!"

The deputy was about to say something else:

"But..."

"What?"

The center army general shot him a warning look, and the deputy shut up real quick.

"Go give the order!"

"Yes sir!"

After watching the deputy leave to pass along orders, the center army general showed a nasty expression:

"Now’s the perfect chance to make that vanguard general jerk disappear for good!"

The vanguard general was pretty strong, and always stayed within the main army’s camp.

To kill him would take at least enough strength to take on the entire camp.

Even though the vanguard’s military tents were on fire and they looked to be in serious danger.

But the center army general figured in his head that with just this level of threat, that vanguard general jerk could at worst get away on his own.

He secretly got ready—when the timing felt right, he’d immediately lead troops to go "help out."

If the vanguard general was still alive...

No... there was no way it could survive.

The center army general would make sure it went back forever to the sandy dirt where it belonged!

...

Right now, the black sand vanguard camp had turned into a sea of flames, with crimson fire burning everything in sight.

"Wah!"

Burn! Burn! Burn!

Red Spirit kept excitedly darting through the sea of flames.

Whether there were black sand soldiers hiding in the military tents or not, it had to set a fire.

You could tell it was having the time of its life with the arson...

"Weird.

How come there’s no movement at all from the center army down at the mountain base?"

Carlos looked puzzled.

Even though the intel did say the three black sand army generals really couldn’t stand each other and had serious beef, and not helping was normal, shouldn’t they at least send people to check things out?

However, this was something Carlos was happy to see.

As the last black sand soldier died in the flames, the cleanup battle finally wrapped up.

"Took out the black sand army vanguard.

Now we move to phase two—take out the black sand rear army up the mountain!"

Carlos called back all his guys, spread his wings, shot into the sky, and flew fast up the mountain...

...

Several Hours Later

Black Sand Army Rear Guard Camp

Front—blocked by a weird Dark Purple Force Field.

Rear—a sea of flames shooting up.

Above the camp—all kinds of screaming and sounds of black sand scattering echoed.

Several purple or red figures were brutally slaughtering the black sand army soldiers...

"Damn it! Where the hell did these monsters come from!"

The rear army general’s face was shocked, his expression incredibly ugly.

These terrifying monsters had actually gotten around the vanguard and center army and suddenly shown up out of nowhere in his own camp!

Looking around, up front, terrifying purple skeleton monsters were cutting down soldiers left and right.

Behind, awful red lights flashed by, and countless soldiers turned to black sand.

"We’re trapped!"

The rear army general felt hopeless. Looking around, there really was no way up the mountain and no path down.

"Gen... General, what do we do!"

The deputy was freaking out. If not for inner instinct, it would’ve already ditched the general and run.

"What do we do?"

The rear army general drew his great sword and laughed boldly:

"Haha!

Nothing left but for us all to go back to the sandy homeland together!"

He suddenly burst out with the tragic spirit of facing death without fear!

The soldiers around him immediately got caught up in the general’s mood, all drawing their great swords with determined faces:

"We should go with the general back to the sandy homeland together!"

The rear army general roared:

"Charge!"

Leading the soldiers who still had guts, he launched an attack on the Shield Guards!

The Shield Guards felt confused—these weak guys were actually moving forward to throw their lives away?

Confused as they were, the Shield Guards’ actions didn’t hesitate one bit.

Sword light flickered, clanging sounds suddenly rang out.

The rear army general who charged first got cut down along with his sword!

In the last moment before dying, the rear army general finally remembered something:

"So... so I was already... already dead a long time ago..."

A look of peace appeared on his face.

Then... he crumbled with a crash, turning into a pile of black sand.

"General!"

"Charge! Avenge the general!"

"Kill them!"

The black sand soldiers who charged after the rear army general let out heartbroken roars.

One by one, they fiercely threw themselves at this Shield Guard...

Carlos looked down at those black sand soldiers who desperately wanted to charge and fight for their general.

He felt kind of surprised:

"Even turning into monsters can’t break the bonds between them?"

Carlos sighed softly:

"Sigh, let me send you to quick freedom."

So he ordered several Shield Guards to go help out together...

...

"Slash!"

"Crash!"

"Crack!"

Sword light swept by. The Shield Guards granted these black sand soldiers’ wish to keep following their general.

On the rocky ground, black sand piled up thicker and thicker until no new black sand fell...

"More than half again."

Carlos figured that after clearing out the final center army and Black Sand King, his Spirit could basically go up 2 points in a row, hitting the limit of 19 straight up!

Suddenly, a Shield Guard cleaning the battlefield found a piece of spirit gear in the black sand pile.

Carlos landed.

The spot was right in front of the black sand pile where the rear army general had turned into after dying.

"Creak!"

The Shield Guard respectfully held out the spirit gear.

A pair of beautifully designed black gemstone bracelets, bright shine, rich colors.
