Chapter 417: Chapter 417 We’re getting them back
The rooftop party turned into a little piece of beautiful chaos.
Nora, who’d secretly been bribed by the groom’s side (thank you, Ethan, Nova and Ray), filmed everything on her phone: Ava already swaying after two glasses of bubbly, Lilith drinking stronger shots like they were water, and Hannah babbling her entire life story into Lilith’s ear while refusing to let go of her shoulders.
And Tara — Ethan’s wife — was there too, standing a little shyly by the drinks table at first. She was modest, soft-spoken, and had come only because Ava practically dragged her there. In her neat black dress — a touch longer than the others, she looked like the calm, polite one. But that didn’t last long.
Nora pressed send — "Here’s your private show, enjoy you nosy idiots" and tucked her phone away, pretending to be innocent as she rejoined the chaos.
Lilith was dragged into a spin by Nina, who grabbed her hands and twirled her under the twinkling fairy lights.
"Come on! You always look so cold and perfect — loosen up for once!" Nina teased.
Lilith barely got one spin in before Ava, giggling uncontrollably, popped up and body-blocked Nina like a guard dog. "Back off! She’s mine tonight!" Ava declared dramatically, her cheeks pink from wine.
Lilith nearly doubled over laughing — she’d never seen Ava this drunk. Nina huffed and stomped away, muttering, "Y’all are insane!" under her breath.
"Oh we know!" Ava squealed, throwing her arms around Lilith’s neck and leaning half her weight on her.
And that’s when Tara approached, carrying two glasses of water — trying to be the voice of reason. "Ava... maybe you should drink some water, yes?" she suggested gently, her voice soft.
Ava turned to Tara with big, sparkly eyes. "Taraaa... you’re so nice — but no!" Ava squeaked, still clinging to Lilith. "We’re having fun! Lilith is gonna be a wife, we have to ruin her tonight — that’s what a party is for!"
Tara just sighed, her cheeks pink too — even she’d had a glass. "You’re impossible," she giggled, shaking her head as she gently tucked Ava’s hair behind her ear.
Meanwhile, Hannah, who had been suspiciously quiet for a moment, suddenly stumbled over and hugged Lilith from behind, squishing Tara’s water glasses between them. "Lilith! You have to say goodbye to your single life properly!" she babbled. "You’re gonna have babies! And forget about us!"
Hannah had always respected Lilith, but the alcohol made her a little too loose tonight.
Ava joined in the fake crying too, wiping imaginary tears from her cheeks. "She’ll be so busy in her married life with Boss that she’ll forget her poor, lonely friends starving for her attention!"
Lilith was half laughing, half suffocating. "You idiots — stop— you’re gonna spill Tara’s water—" she gasped.
And Tara just giggled quietly and handed the water to Nora instead. Then, to everyone’s shock, she leaned in and pinched Ava’s cheek. "You, drink water or you’ll cry all night. Lili, you too — or your soon be husband will scold you tomorrow!" she teased.
Lilith’s eyes widened. "Look at you being the responsible wife," she chuckled, gently taking Tara’s hand and squeezing it.
"Hey! Stop hogging my Lilith!" Ava protested dramatically, pulling Tara into the hug too — now they were a tangled mess of black dresses, glitter, and squeals. Hannah wrapped her arms around Tara’s waist from the side, making Tara squeal with laughter, cheeks bright pink.
Nora, of course, filmed the whole mess again. "Bosss and Ethan sir are gonna die when they see this," she whispered gleefully.
On the other side, it was the men’s turn to panic.
Ethan sat cross-legged on the bed in his room, staring at his phone screen with his jaw dropping lower every second. The video Nora sent replayed for the tenth time: Ava squealing and dancing in her short dress, Lilith swaying around in that sparkling black dress, Hannah hugging everyone like a drunk puppy, and Tara giggling at the edge, clinking glasses with Ava.
"Oh. No. No no no no..." Ethan muttered under his breath, running a hand through his hair. He jumped off the bed, phone still in hand, just as the door swung open — Ray walked in, equally wide-eyed.
"Brooo you saw it too?!" Ethan blurted, holding out his phone like it was evidence in a crime scene.
Ray’s cheeks were flushed pink from pure disbelief. "Of course I saw it! Lili up there giggling with Nina! She let Ava spin her around! Do you know how jealous I am?" He smacked his own forehead, pacing. "If she falls, I’ll fall too! My poor heart!"
Ethan threw an arm around Ray’s shoulders, trying to calm him down. "Relax! We’re going up there. We’re getting our girls out before they break a leg or do something wierd."
They turned the hallway corner just as Liam jogged toward them, out of breath and eyes wide with panic.
"You guys saw it too?" Liam asked, stopping with his hands on his knees. He’d just gotten off the phone with Hannah an hour ago and she’d sounded so sweet — he never imagined she’d be hugging random girls and yelling about love.
Nova showed up next, looking calm on the outside but there was murder behind his eyes. "Ava used my credit card for that champagne tower. My card. And she bought three bottles — three! and told the staff it was ’emergency wedding fun.’"
Finally, Knox appeared at the end of the hallway. He’d just opened the video of Nina dancing barefoot on a table and nearly dropped his phone. "Nina’s going to catch a cold. Or break her ankle. Or both. And then blame me. Not happening."
The five of them stood in awkward silence for a second, each imagining the rooftop scene: their sweet, usually calm women — giggling, tipsy, ignoring them completely, dancing under fairy lights like a forbidden bachelorette coven.
Ethan cracked his knuckles. "We’re getting them back."
Ray narrowed his eyes. "And Lili is explaining why she let Nina touch her hair."
Nova pulled out his wallet and scowled. "Ava’s paying me back for that champagne tower. Every drop."
