Chapter 418: Chapter 418 Wait

Liam huffed, thinking of Hannah’s soft ’I love you’ that she’d said to everyone — except him! — while hugging Lilith.

Knox adjusted his watch, deadly serious. "They think they can party without us? We are the party."

So the rescue squad of jealous, half-panicked, half-possessive men marched up the hallway together.

Lilith sat on the chair, her legs crossed, mind drifting as the last beats of music faded out into the night. She frowned a little, blinking. The rooftop felt too quiet now — too empty. The cold night air brushed her bare shoulders, making the fine hairs on her neck stand.

She stood up slowly, feeling a sudden lightness in her head. Maybe it was the drinks... maybe it was the soft lights and the warm buzz from her friends that had disappeared without a trace. She rubbed her forehead, trying to find focus.

"Ava? Hannah?" she called out, her voice echoing softly in the night air. She walked over to the railing, peering down at the garden lights below, but saw no one. "Tara?" she tried again, but only the wind answered her back.

A little sigh slipped from her lips — a tiny smile too, as her eyes traced the stars scattered over the city skyline. Where did they all run off to so suddenly? She hugged her arms around herself, the silky black dress clinging to her curves in the moonlight.

Then — a breath. Warm. Right next to her ear.

"...Looking for someone?" That low, deep voice was like honey pouring right into her bones. She didn’t have to turn around to know who it was.

Gray stood right behind her now, so close she could feel the heat of his body pressing along her back. He lowered his chin, letting it rest on her shoulder, his lips brushing her ear as he spoke.

"Are you trying to kill your husband before the wedding?" he growled softly, his tone dark and playful at the same time. She felt something hard press against her lower back, making her lips part on a shaky breath.

"Human doll..." she whispered, but there was no real protest in her voice — not when his hand slid around her waist, pulling her tight against him.

Then, with one strong hand, he grabbed her shoulder and turned her around to face him. Her back pressed to the railing now, his body caging hers in so there was no escape. His eyes — dark, stormy, full of heat, roamed her tiny black dress, the way it hugged every line of her curves.

He chuckled, low and dangerous. "This little dress... are you trying to drive me insane?" he asked, brushing his thumb along her jaw.

Her hands came up to press at his chest, but they only stayed there — helpless, trembling, clutching his shirt. He leaned in closer, his nose brushing hers, lips just a breath away.

"You’re mine, Lilith..." he murmured, his hand sliding up her side, his fingers tracing the swell of her breast, making her shiver. "No one gets to see you like this... but me."

She sucked in a sharp breath when he suddenly tangled his fingers in her hair, pulling her head back just enough for his mouth to find her throat. His lips were hot, open, teeth grazing her skin — each kiss a promise and a threat all at once.

"Human doll..." she breathed again, her knees almost giving out under the weight of his touch.

He chuckled against her neck, biting lightly before he pulled back just enough to look her in the eyes. Their faces so close, they shared the same breath — the tension so thick it wrapped around them like rope.

His thumb brushed her lower lip, feeling the way it trembled for him. He leaned in, kissing her softly — just once, like a tease then pulled away with a wicked grin.

"I’ll see you at our wedding night..." he whispered, his breath warm against her ear. He pressed his hips closer, letting her feel the full heat of his want. "And when I do, Lilith... I’m not letting you go for three days and nights. You’ll remember you belong to me — only me."

He kissed her forehead, then her cheek, then her lips again.. this time deeper, making her toes curl in her heels.

Lilith’s breath was still shaky when Gray pulled back, his lips brushing her temple as if to calm the fire he’d just lit. Her knees felt weak, her hands clutched at his shoulders for balance. She didn’t even protest when he slipped one arm under her knees and the other around her back, lifting her up in one smooth, possessive motion.

She gasped softly, her arms wrapping around his neck for balance as he carried her away from the railing. The soft golden lights of the resort flickered behind them, the breeze catching the hem of her tiny dress as he held her close.

Gray glanced down at her — her flushed cheeks, her half-lidded eyes, the way her lips were still parted from his kiss and his chest filled with something dark and warm all at once.

"Don’t look at me like that..." he muttered, his voice low and rough as he walked down the path, his shoes crunching on the stones. "You make me want to forget the wedding and just keep you here tonight."

Lilith huffed a small laugh, her fingers playing with the hair at the nape of his neck. "You’ll wait," she teased, though her voice gave her away — breathless and sweet.

He growled softly, dipping his head to nip at her ear, making her squeak. "I’ll wait," he said, his tone playful but dangerous, "but only because I want the whole world to know you’re mine."

She buried her face in his neck, inhaling the scent that always made her feel like home like danger and comfort and everything she shouldn’t want but always did.

Gray carried her through the soft golden lights, past the flowers and the lanterns still glowing in the night breeze.
