“She’s gone.”
Seconds later, Lu Li spoke, his gaze fixed on the corpse in the pool of blood, “We’re entering the Police Station right now.”
To be safe, they needed to leave the second floor as quickly as possible.
No one could be certain whether the scent of blood might attract something strange, or if the faceless corpse would transform into one of the Followers like the woman in the white dress.
“It’s too far.” Jojo looked toward the Police Station window across from them, below which was a narrow alley.
They were at least two meters away from the Police Station, and the window was shut tight.
“I’ll demonstrate, Anna.”
“Leave it to me.”
Anna’s voice came from the void as Jojo saw something that made her eyes widen in disbelief—Lu Li’s feet left the floor, and he floated towards the window.
The second-floor window of the Police Station opened as if by invisible hands, and Lu Li drifted through it and silently landed inside the Police Station, then turned back to look at Jojo.
Jojo was sent into the Police Station in the same manner; as soon as she gently stepped onto the floor, Lu Li closed the window and drew the curtains to block the view.
Turning back, they assessed the second floor of the Police Station, where overturned desks and chairs indicated that a disturbance had taken place.
The spirit hadn’t given them any warnings; the Police Station should be safe.
They hoped they would find a clue about Oliver here.
Lu Li popped his head out of the gap in his flesh wings, which draped over his body like a rain poncho without a hood.
Jojo was still imitating Lu Li’s actions, but the gap in her flesh wings was so small that it could only cover her body like a cape.
Creak—
Just as Jojo began to relax, a creaking sound came from the quiet corner as if someone stepped on the floor.
Lu Li suddenly looked toward the source of the sound, his hand on his gun holster, ready to draw the Spirit-Calling Gun at a moment’s notice.
In the dimly lit second floor, where only silhouettes were barely visible, a figure stood at the entrance of an office in the corner, one hand pressed against their face in a silencing gesture, neck veins bulging in fear and desperation as the other arm waved, as if to warn them of something.
Lu Li realized something and stayed quiet.
Jojo glanced at Lu Li, confirming her own thoughts were correct, and also covered her mouth with her hand.
Seeing that neither of the two who had entered the second floor of the Police Station was speaking, the figure’s arm dropped limply, their movements slow and oddly graceful as they approached Lu Li.
Lu Li remained on alert, and Anna, in the void, also got ready.
As the figure drew near, Lu Li and Jojo saw the abrasions and stains on their cheeks and forehead that clashed with their otherwise clean and oversized police uniform.
The figure stopped two meters in front of Lu Li and Jojo, dipped a finger into a cup of water, and began writing a message on the desk.
Shaking with fear, the content he wrote was difficult to make out.
“I am human.”
Jojo almost blurted out, “I know.”
After writing those words, the figure looked up at Lu Li and Jojo, then continued to write, “Three people, can’t talk, ghost, will appear and kill.”
Jojo suddenly realized, understanding why the man earlier had died.
Lu Li took a step toward the figure, who instinctively wanted to retreat but then seemed to remember the person opposite was human and stopped, trembling in place.
Lu Li wet his finger and wrote beside it, “The ghost you’re talking about, is it the woman with her face hollowed out?”
“Yes!
Did you see her?”
After writing this, the man’s face showed enlightenment.
They must have encountered that terrifying woman, which is why there were only two of them left…
Lu Li nodded in response and wrote, “Is that one of the Evil God’s Followers?”
The man replied, “Followers?
They, those monsters, they all appeared together.”
“They?
Are there many?”
The man’s expression crazily conveyed as he wrote, “They, those monsters, are all together, there are many of them!”
Conversing in this manner was too inefficient.
With every minute they delayed, Oliver could be closer to death.
He wrote, “How can we talk?”
“Only two people can hear, a third, no, she’s watching.”
Lu Li understood his meaning and exchanged a glance with Jojo, who nodded at him and moved to the corner of the office, distancing herself from the two men.
When she was far enough away and had covered herself with her flesh wings, Lu Li said to the man, “Are you a police officer here?”
The man, frightened by Lu Li’s voice, shuddered all over, reflexively looking around, and muttering under his breath with his hand over his chest, “It’s okay…
it’s okay…”
“Are you a police officer here?” Lu Li had to repeat the question.
The man’s lackluster eyes lifted, staring blankly at Lu Li as he responded sluggishly like someone short on sleep, “I…
yes, I am a police officer of Shadow Town…”
“What’s the situation in the town now?”
“The town…” His voice halted.
The man’s vacant eyes suddenly sparkled with a light of hope, and he grabbed Lu Li’s sleeve urgently, asking, “How can you ask these things!?
Did you come from outside?
Save me, get me out!
Quickly get me out!”
The man’s voice had grown louder with excitement.
Lu Li didn’t immediately respond to him.
Instead, he looked around the room and said, “Indeed, we came from outside.”
The man became more agitated.
Before he could speak, Lu Li said, “Right now, I need to understand the situation in the town, and I’m also looking for someone.”
The man clutched at his head in pain, “Looking for someone?
How could there still be anyone alive?
Everyone’s dead!
A bunch died in the initial sacrifices, then more when the monsters appeared, and those killed by the monsters turned into monsters as well…”
Lu Li replied, “We must find him, even if it’s just his body.”
The man looked up in astonishment, his disheveled appearance and bloodshot eyes making him look like a madman, “No!
You can’t do that!”
Lu Li calmly said, “You can stay here, we will take you with us once we’ve found the person.”
But the extreme terror of the environment had shattered the man’s sanity and belief, leaving only the thought of escaping.
He wanted to grab Lu Li by the collar to interrogate him, but before he could touch Lu Li, a cold, ominous breath overwhelmed him, and he lost consciousness.
Lu Li caught the fainting man, then looked up into the emptiness.
“His voice, if any louder, could have been heard by Jojo,” Anna materialized, remarking as such.
Lu Li didn’t care whether the statement was true or false, he waved toward Jojo who was looking their way from the corner and carried the man into the Chief’s office, placing him in a chair.
“What’s wrong with him?”
Jojo asked, confirming that the man was unconscious and couldn’t hear their conversation.
“Scared out of his wits,” Lu Li surveyed the entire office, pausing briefly on a clock whose hands were aligned at 12, then looked away.
Jojo, who had been paying attention to Lu Li, curiously looked at the clock’s time, “Wasn’t it just morning when we arrived…
Has it already reached noon that quickly?”
“Time has stopped moving,” Lu Li said as he moved to the desk and picked up a notebook to flip through.
Jojo, noticing the motionless clock hands, closed her mouth and helped Lu Li search for clues.
The man woke up quickly, and after regaining consciousness, he sat silently in the chair, occasionally his gaze following the two as they moved around searching.
After searching the second floor of the Police Station for over ten minutes, unfortunately, they didn’t find any useful clues.
Thump, thump—
In the Chief’s office, the man, invisible as if he had no presence, suddenly tapped lightly on the desk.
