Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 393 - 393 Two hundred fifty
393: Two hundred fifty.
A peaceful night 393: Two hundred fifty.
A peaceful night [Maid Aileen fell silent for a moment, her tone complex, “I am grateful for everything you’ve done for me…
but I must do this.”]
“I am grateful for everything you’ve done for me, but I must do this.” The Baron delivered the line without a pause—his poor performance could ruin a play.
However, it was apparent that the “audience,” should there be one, might not be particularly discerning.
“This will ruin you and Sara.”
Lu Li spoke first, not waiting for the obscure ancient voice to arise.
He wouldn’t give the evil spirit an opportunity to manipulate him.
It had nothing to do with dignity; it was simply about avoiding the traps that the spirit had set, much like it had done to Aileen.
The ancient voice paused momentarily, then continued progress in the plot.
[“This will ruin you and Sara,” servant Lu Li said with disappointment in his eyes.
Aileen remained silent.
She knew what Lu Li meant—she would lose a good friend, and Sara would lose her freedom.
As a servant, her past life of poverty made her realize the importance of a stable and affluent life, so she did not want the young lady and that penniless boy to be together…
Everything she did was for the sake of the young lady, who she believed would someday understand.]
“But your actions are meaningless.” Lu Li said, implying, “Don’t let your thoughts control your consciousness.”
Lu Li was suggesting that the Baron break free from the fate that was set for him, to take charge of his own story.
The Baron indeed understood, but before she could speak, the obscure ancient voice had already sounded.
[“Meaningless?” Maid Aileen asked, puzzled.]
“What do you want to do?
Tell the Family Head about selling the necklace?
Then Sara will be locked in her room by the Viscount, forbidden from going out, and she’ll know it was you who betrayed her—the futility lies here.
The Viscount’s stance itself is to prohibit Sara’s freedom to love.
Do you think your presumpitive action would change anything?”
The tone of Lu Li was flat, his acting on par with the Baron’s.
“Even if Adam uses the jewelry to prepare an expensive gift, would the Viscount change his opinion?”
[Servant Lu Li’s words, like a torrential rain, crashed into Aileen’s heart.
She realized her actions indeed had no meaning, a chill of fear spreading from her heart.
She suddenly thought, if the young lady knew the truth, how would she face her?
“Thank you, you’ve helped me once again…” Aileen looked at servant Lu Li with complex emotions, bowed deeply, and ran towards the outside of the mansion.]
[Lu Li watched her diminishing figure, sighing softly.]
“Sigh.” Lu Li said expressionlessly.
The obscure ancient voice did not arise again.
One hour later, the Baron and the following butler returned; the transformed black jewelry had vanished, without anyone but herself knowing what had happened.
The plot of the afternoon slowed, hours condensed into a few sentences.
[Sara was hoping for tomorrow to come, just as she had hoped for today.
She remained distracted during her afternoon piano and etiquette lessons, causing her etiquette teacher to shake her head repeatedly.]
[As evening fell, Sara had dinner and, under the service of Maid Aileen and the servants, drifted into slumber.]
[Another restless night ensued.]
At six in the evening, the story of the day came to an end.
Tomorrow, Adam would come with the gift, and the story would properly unfold.
“Feels like a clichéd story, I’ve already guessed what happens next,” David chatted.
Changing back into their own clothes, the exorcists gathered in the living room waiting for dinner.
The burning fireplace radiated warm light.
“After the male protagonist is rejected and thrown out upon his arrival, the Earl’s Heir will appear.
The female lead, refusing the arranged marriage, chooses to elope with the male lead.
The ending is likely that the male lead dies while the female protagonist gains her freedom.”
Suddenly, black fog spread from the six-meter-high ceiling, and solid black lines dropped down.
David noticed this scene and shrugged indifferently, adding, “The ‘Rodria Romance’ I mentioned earlier pioneered this genre of love stories.”
The black line became illusory, and the dark fog gradually faded, restoring peace to the drawing room.
It is because such a book truly exists, and its content is consistent with what David described.
The exorcists resumed their casual conversation until Baron Joseph arrived.
She changed back into a splendid long dress, her face adorned with makeup that accentuated a noble and beautiful demeanor, hardly associating her with the small freckled maid in uniform.
The chefs began to prepare dinner.
During the previous days, this part had not occurred; they would disperse after their discussions.
However, after the baron learned that Lu Li seemed particularly fond of eating, he deliberately turned the winding down of stories and organizing information into dinner.
Facing this misunderstanding, Lu Li chose to accept it by default.
It was still Baron Joseph who narrated the larger part of the story, recounting the plot that unfolded during his time alone with “Sara.”
“She nervously asked me many questions, overlooking that she might just be an ordinary girl,”
Baron Joseph said in a hoarse voice, as dishes were served one by one on silver platters along the long table.
Lu Li picked up the orange juice, paused with the glass close to his lips, his brows imperceptibly furrowing before he set the glass back down on the table.
The baron, who had been discreetly observing Lu Li, noticed this scene and gestured for the maid, “Switch Mr.
Luli’s drink to milk.”
A few gazes shifted his way, but Lu Li said nothing.
As Baron Joseph continued his tale and the green pupils filled with orange juice gradually faded, Lu Li picked up the orange juice again and began drinking.
The visions brought on by his declining Sanity Value had already become a part of Lu Li’s daily life.
It was foreseeable that, when circumstances worsened and after seeking refuge and reading all his books, these vision would become his main source of entertainment.
The lunch did not last long, as the information had already been exchanged in the first ten minutes, and Lu Li, who had silently drunk his milk, set down his empty cup at the end of their communication and was driven back to the Detective Agency by the baron’s carriage.
With Baron Joseph’s focus absent, the uninterested baron also left soon after, and the remaining three exorcists exchanged a few words before returning to their rooms.
Rain enshrouded the bustling Belfast by night.
“Good night.”
People entered their dreams.
…
The Baron’s Mansion, brightly lit everywhere except one room, was cloaked in darkness.
In that darkness, something was brewing.
[At night, Sara slowly woke up.]
An enigmatic and ancient voice, unheard by any, began to resonate faintly.
[As sleepiness gradually subsided and insomnia kept Sara gazing at the moonlight through the window, she slowly sat up.
The thin blanket slipped from her body.
Without waking the sleeping Maid Irene, Sara walked barefoot to the balcony.]
A silhouette darker than the darkness itself emerged from the pitch-black room.
The light rain fell upon it.
[The cold moonlight streamed from the full moon overhead, illuminating the earth.
As she looked at the dim contours of the manor, Sara suddenly remembered that the mansion’s gatekeeper had resigned several days ago.]
