Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 392 - 392 Two hundred forty-nine

392: Two hundred forty-nine.

Love Story 392: Two hundred forty-nine.

Love Story [Sara nodded hesitantly, her expression filled with worry.

She didn’t think her father would willingly agree to her seeing a commoner—the fact that he had servants secretly follow her today was evidence enough.

Fortunately, these servants chose to help her.]

[Reluctantly saying goodbye to Adam, Sara and the servants quickly returned to the Manor.

“I’m going to see Father.

You all go back to your rooms and wait for me, and… thank you for keeping this secret for me.

I’ll tell Father that I was feeling claustrophobic in my room and needed a walk,” Sara thanked the servants, then walked into the residence amid several gazes.]

[The servants lingered in the garden, and Maid Irene sighed with relief, looking puzzledly at Lu Li who had concocted an excuse for her: “You… why did you help me?”]

“Why did you help me?” the Baron said, adding a personal touch to his tone.

The consequences of Lu Li altering the plot began to emerge, leading to reflections that were chilling—the eerie sentiment felt as if an evil spirit was making inquiries through the Baron.

“Because I like you.”

A cold, malicious chill seeped out from the void, immediately sensed by several Exorcists who vigilantly searched for its origin.

Petra looked thoughtfully at Lu Li.

[“Because I like you,” Lu Li said softly, catching Maid Irene off-guard as she stood frozen.

She suddenly remembered Lu Li’s previous overtures and the stealthy gazes she felt while cleaning the rooms—it had been him all along…]

[“You won’t blame me, will you?

It was I who betrayed the young lady,” Maid Irene lowered her head, her voice filled with guilt.]

The Baron came to his senses and followed the script, saying, “You won’t blame me, will you?

It was I who betrayed the young lady.”

After waiting for several seconds and hearing no cryptic, ancient voice, Lu Li spontaneously responded, “No, if anyone, Sara would blame you.”

Unable to detect the source of the chill, the Exorcists clicked their tongues in surprise; that response was rather blunt…

[“Thank you, I…” Maid Irene’s thoughts were in turmoil.

Unsure how to face Lu Li’s affection, she bowed deeply to him and then hurried into the Manor.]

The Baron did the same, but stumbled as he ascended the steps, somewhat awkwardly rushing through the door.

As the Baron left, the cryptic and ancient voice ceased to sound.

It might have followed her exit, or the plot was perhaps shifting towards “Sara.”

“That was quite a bold move,” David said on tiptoe, patting Lu Li on the shoulder with a smile.

“I wouldn’t dare attract… its attention deliberately.

Who knows what might happen.”

Despite the evil spirit no longer focusing here, certain words and actions still attracted its attention, akin to the night of the assessment when the evil spirit descended.

“If we don’t change the Baron’s situation, it will end badly,” Lu Li replied.

With the identity of betraying one’s master, and merely being a Maid, the Baron’s fate was foregone.

The time was just past morning, Lu Li and the others returned to the Baron’s bedroom to wait.

The Baron was already in the room.

He and Lu Li exchanged glances, then awkwardly looked away, bearing a resemblance to “Maid Irene.”

After a while, “Sara” returned to her bedroom, her face bearing the mark of a slap—not as the obscure ancient tones had spoken, but as they had “sensed.”

This scene was difficult for them to explain with their usual logic, but when Sara returned to the room, Lu Li and the others, upon looking at her, simultaneously formed a realization deep within: Sara’s face bore the imprint of a slap.

Lu Li had witnessed similar scenes before; aboard the ship that returned wandering souls, he had seen “various shades of pitch black.”

The story then gradually unfolded, metaphorically revealing to the “audience” Sara’s ordeal at her father’s hands.

The slap mark on “Sara’s” face was not due to her sneaking out.

Only a few servants knew about Adam’s affair; the real reason for the injury on her face was her resistance to the marriage arranged by the “Viscount.”

Arranged marriages within the nobility were common, and Sara had long been promised by her father to a significant figure’s heir, an Earl.

Sara was aware of this, but she struggled to change anything.

Although a noble family could provide a carefree life, it rarely offered true freedom—

Until during an outing, Sara locked eyes with Adam and their correspondence illuminated her to the vibrant world outside.

Having always been a bird trapped in a cage, she began to grow restless with it all, resisting the life set out for her, yearning to break free from these restraints.

If one temporarily disregarded the story’s name and demonic influences and considered the story in itself, it was just a typical tale of a noble falling in love with a commoner.

It wasn’t so much that “Sara” liked Adam as she was enamored with what Adam symbolized—”freedom.”

The following story was predictable—”Sara” and “Adam’s” feelings faced obstructions from the Viscount, these obstructions precisely ignited Sara’s rebelliousness, and she resolutely wanted to be with Adam at all costs.

The only issue was whether the evil spirits intended to tell such a story.

“Maid Irene’s” betrayal was not known to “Sara,” who still regarded “Maid Irene” as a good friend as before and trusted Lu Li and the others a bit more because they kept it a secret.

[Maid Irene tenderly placed a towel wrapped with ice cubes on the young lady’s face.

Sara seemed indifferent to the throbbing pain on her cheek.

She opened her jewelry box, grabbed the valuable jewelry, and stuffed it into Maid Irene’s hand as if dealing with something inconsequential.

“Irene, take these jewels to Adam, have him sell them, and prepare an expensive gift!”]

[Maid Irene did not understand Sara’s decision.

She voiced her inquiry only to receive a bitter smile from her mistress in response: “I want to step out of the cage and have a look around.” Urged by Sara, Maid Irene left the bedroom, hesitated momentarily, then headed towards the Family Head’s room.]

Baron emerged from the bedroom holding a pile of jewelry that bore the outlines of their shapes—these had once belonged to her, but the moment “Sara” touched them, they were assimilated into the story.

[“I can’t watch the young lady sink further,” thought the maid.

What did that poor boy have that compared to the heir of an Earl, whether in status or refinement…

The more Maid Irene thought about it, the less she understood.

But just as she reached the Family Head’s door, a figure suddenly blocked her path.]

[It was the servant Lu Li.

Maid Irene looked at him with surprise, panic flashing momentarily in her eyes, and she avoided his gaze: “Why are you standing in my way?”]

Inside the bedroom, the three Exorcists simultaneously turned their gaze to Lu Li.

Lu Li said nothing, turned, and dashed out of the room, chasing the Baron.

[“You really shouldn’t do this,” Lu Li said coolly, shaking his head.]

The dull sound of running across the carpet entered his ears; Baron turned around, saw a black line emerge above, and Lu Li approached, his figure enveloped in a descending black mist, slightly out of breath as he spoke.

“You really shouldn’t do this.”
