The drizzle soaked the desolate cobblestone street.

In the watchful gaze of four pairs of eyes, a dark figure entered the café across the diagonal.

David heaved a sigh of relief, grateful he wasn’t present and didn’t have to face the two phantom beasts.

Lola pondered thoughtfully, imagining what would happen next inside the coffee shop.

Petra observed the café’s display window.

Some patrons had begun to leave, and through the mist-like rain, a few hazy figures seemed to have just sat down.

Lu Li lifted his head and sniffed, as the aroma of food wafted out from the kitchen.

Facing an evil spirit, their life-saving techniques were useless except for their knowledge, and aside from that, they were not much different from ordinary people.

A spring-like smile melted away Sara’s reserve as she pulled Maid Irene to sit down, revealing the graceful smile taught by her etiquette teacher.

“This is my…

dear friend Irene,” Sara introduced Maid Irene.

“Hello,” came the sunny voice, smiling kindly at Irene.

“Hello,” the Baron nodded impassively.

Aside from the seat in front of the display window where the Baron sat, the café had been cleared by the butler, and the manager was made to hide away.

Butler Lulu stood behind the counter, looking at the Baron and the empty seat beside him.

Maid Irene responded with restraint as he softly asked what the two ladies would like to drink, gesturing for the waiter to come and prepare the beverages.

“You’ve changed a lot,” Sara said with a light laugh, finding it hard to connect his current demeanor and mature appearance with the sunny young man she’d first met and corresponded with.

“I…

I was afraid you wouldn’t like that side of me.” He couldn’t help scratching the back of his head, realizing he might have done something unnecessary.

Seeing his expression revert to that of the young man, Sara felt a sense of relief, she had seen too many serious and solemn men…

Their meeting was smoother than either had anticipated, and they found each other more charming than they had in their letters; laughter rang continuously in the noisy coffee shop, and occasionally, as they made eye contact, their eyes conveyed a mutual admiration.

But…

In the empty café, the Baron pursed his lips.

But forever signifies unforeseen circumstances.

Maid Irene looked on at all this, feeling she couldn’t blend in.

Her anxiety grew—why hadn’t the Family Head arrived yet?

She worried that if things continued this way, the young lady might be captivated by the poor boy opposite, even though he seemed decent enough.

She glanced anxiously at the bustling street and suddenly, her gaze cut through the display window to see several of Sara’s servants sitting inside a restaurant window.

Were they sent by the Family Head to find Sara?

Irene thought and began to plan her exit.

“Miss…” Maid Irene tugged gently at Sara’s sleeve, a troubled look on her face.

Sara turned and, understanding her maid’s expression, nodded with light amusement, “Go ahead.”

The Baron acted according to the planned scenario.

Maid Irene felt relieved, yet guilt rose within her.

The young lady seemed to like the young man very much…

but soon, her resolve hardened.

In her opinion, he was not worthy of the young lady; the young lady’s lover should be a handsome nobleman of high birth, not the son of a petty merchant.

She left her seat and walked out of the café.

As she passed through the crowd, she couldn’t help but look back at the two behind the glass, sincere smiles on their faces.

Hesitating for a moment, she then went into the restaurant diagonally across the way.

The three Exorcists watched the Baron enter complexly and, as “Maid Irene” spotted them, archaic and obscure sounds began to resonate in their minds.

They thought that by keeping their distance they would stay out of the story, but they ended up being involved after all.

“`

[Maid Irene asked them why they were here, and then she learned that it was by the Viscount’s order that they followed the young lady to investigate that man’s identity.

Maid Irene shared the information she knew with them, and then anxiously said, “It’s too late, you have to quickly separate the young lady and Adam, if the young lady falls for him it’ll be too late!”]

[The servants exchanged glances, thinking they could take Sara back first and then investigate that guy named Adam.

They hurriedly left the dining room and followed Irene toward the cafe.]

“Let’s go,” Petra said, standing up first.

The other three stood up in turn, and Lu Li grabbed two boiled eggs and stuffed them into the pocket of his servant’s jacket before walking out of the dining room.

[The brilliant sunlight streaming through the window was blocked by the shadows from outside, and Sara glanced over unintentionally, freezing in place.

“Bang bang—” The door to the dining room was violently pushed open, and Adam, shocked, looked toward the encircling servants and the stunned Sara.]

[“How come you are here…” Sara faintly guessed something.

“Irene?” She asked tentatively.]

[“What happened?” Adam stood up and asked, but no one answered him.

Sara, also without an answer, felt her heart gradually sinking into an abyss; she had guessed the outcome.

“Was it you?

Irene?”]

[Maid Irene kept her head down, not daring to make eye contact with Sara, telling herself that this was for the young lady’s own good.

Sara, betrayed by someone close to her, showed pain in her eyes: “Was it you who told Father?”]

The Baron kept his head bowed in silence, offering no response.

The story was taking a turn for the worse, no longer under control.

Characters who hinder the lead couple’s relationship usually do not meet a good end—

“The gatekeeper saw you, and he reported to the Family Head, who sent us to take you back,” a calm voice suddenly came from an oblique angle, prompting everyone, alive and shadow alike, to look over.

Lu Li, ignoring the looks from those around him, continued to speak to “Sara”, “But we didn’t expect you were sneaking out to meet with someone else.”

His gaze landed on “Adam”.

Lu Li’s tone was nothing like that of a servant speaking to his master, but the Evil Spirit Ritual did not require acting abilities or a script.

The three Exorcists were not concerned about these details, but rather that Lu Li was actively changing the script.

The Baron, who had been silent, suddenly looked up with a dazed expression toward Lu Li, who had helped him out of a difficult situation.

[Sara, hearing the response, panicked for a moment, remembering her extremely strict father; if he knew she had sneaked out to meet with another man…

“You…

will you keep a secret for me?” she asked with a plea in her voice.]

“I didn’t see anything,” Lu Li replied.

The other Exorcists chimed in one after another, helping the Baron and Lu Li to quickly get through the scene.

“Miss, you were just out for a walk, and we were following you the whole time.”

“Mm.”

“I didn’t see anything, either.”

[The servants all answered at once, which moved Sara, and she gently took Maid Irene’s hand, apologizing, then regretfully said to Adam, “I’m really sorry, but I have to go back urgently.” “No…

it’s nothing…

It’s all my fault; I should have come to visit officially,” Adam replied guiltily, before saying earnestly, “I will prepare a gift and visit the manor tomorrow.”]
