Chapter 390 - 390 Story halfway through at two hundred forty-seven
390: Story halfway through at two hundred forty-seven.
390: Story halfway through at two hundred forty-seven.
Love affairs common in romantic stories, when occurring here, did not feel odd.
But when the story was led by an evil spirit and named “Sara’s Book of Death,” every part exuded an eerie and unsettling aura.
Perhaps she was overthinking things, still needing to observe for a while longer.
Petra thought to herself, looking at the silent Baron.
[“You will keep a secret for me, won’t you, Irene?” Sara looked at Maid Irene expectantly, and upon receiving an affirmative answer, she cheered, grabbing Maid Irene’s arm and dreaming of the upcoming meeting with both excitement and some worry.]
[“Come with me!” Sara suddenly said.
Irene hesitated, then slowly nodded.
With a companion, Sara’s inner tension eased somewhat, and she told the servants cleaning the room, “Leave us, I need to change my clothes.”]
Lu Li and the others conscientiously left the bedroom, excluding the Baron.
Upon reaching the corridor, the obscure and ancient voices still echoed in their minds, continuing the plot.
[“Which dress do you think looks good on me?” Sara jumped off the bed and rummaged through the wardrobe for skirts.
The skirts she usually liked somehow felt very ordinary to her now.
“They all look nice,” replied Maid Irene, distractedly, as she thought of how to sneak out and inform the Family Head.]
[Sensing Maid Irene’s perfunctory attitude, Sara furrowed her pretty eyebrows, but quickly relaxed them again.
She remembered that compared to appearance, that man would definitely care more about her inner self.
With that thought, the dresses in the wardrobe seemed to shine once again.]
[While Sara was selecting dresses, Maid Irene quietly left the room to report to the Family Head that the young lady intended to secretly meet with a man.]
The Baron pursed his lips, watching “Sara” as she picked through his wardrobe, stepped out the door, ignoring the four “servants” standing at the entrance, and walked towards the “Family Head’s” room.
The butler, who had been waiting at the door as well, followed along; during this possession by evil spirits, she had been mostly inseparable from Irene, though outside of the story itself.
As the Baron moved away from the bedroom, the obscure and ancient voices no longer echoed in the minds of Lu Li and the others, temporarily losing their observation of the plot.
Not too long after, the Baron reappeared at the end of the corridor.
Her expression was indifferent, and the gaze she usually couldn’t help but drown in when meeting Lu Li’s eyes no longer fell, as cold as if she were a completely different person.
As they passed by each other, the Baron entered the bedroom and the obscure and ancient voices resumed.
[Maid Irene carefully closed the door.
“Where were you?” Suddenly, Sara’s questioning voice came from behind.
Maid Irene stiffened, panic inside her.]
The Baron looked at the “Sara” facing him, continuing to remain silent.
The plot hadn’t arranged for her to take any additional actions.
But as time passed, the plot still had no further arrangement.
[“Irene?” Sara looked curiously at the silent maid.]
An oppressive atmosphere suddenly descended around them, the ceiling swirling with black mist, solid black lines drooping over the Baron’s head, withered black claws spiraling down.
The Shadow of Puppetry suddenly appeared.
But the plot still had no lines prepared for “Maid Irene”.
The Baron suddenly remembered what the butler had told him, took a deep breath to cover the deep panic, and finally spoke, “I just went to the corridor to have a look.”
[“I just went to the corridor to have a look,” said Maid Irene, dodging eye contact.]
People outside the bedroom exchanged glances, deeply furrowing their brows.
Things had become somewhat strange.
[Sara seemed puzzled but didn’t think much of it, looking at Maid Irene, “Are you going to go out with me in your maid’s outfit?
I could lend you one of my dresses.”]
The Shadow of Puppetry still hadn’t arranged lines for the Baron.
“No need,” the Baron responded.
[“No need,” Maid Irene declined her proposal.
Sara was somewhat disheartened, she said nothing, pulled out several Gold Coins from the drawer, placed them in her purse, and said to Maid Irene, “Let’s go.”]
“Yes,” the Baron volunteered.
[“Yes,” Maid Irene replied.
Sara, along with Maid Irene, secretly slipped out of the manor and headed to the predetermined location.]
The arcane ancient sound in his mind disappeared again.
The butler, not following this time, turned back to ask the Exorcists what had just happened.
There were some things they didn’t know either, such as whether the Baron had already reported the matter to the “Family Head.”
Upon receiving an answer, the butler sternly told them, “You need to follow.”
“The story isn’t about us right now,” David said, frowning.
“Following them could lead to unforeseeable consequences.”
“I will follow,” Lu Li said at that moment.
Their job was to ensure the Baron’s safety; lurking outside the plot was pointless.
Petra likewise remembered this, “I will follow too.”
“I misspoke.
We will ensure the Baron’s safety,” David decisively admitted his error.
Just in case, they didn’t ride in a carriage nor did they approach the Baron and “Sara”; the butler and four servant-dressed Exorcists followed them from a distance.
This distance was relatively safe, far enough to not hear the arcane ancient sound, nor to be pulled into the storyline.
The streets on the rainy day had fewer pedestrians than usual; for some reason, David suddenly felt out of place, even though they were all on the same street, brushing past one another.
In the storyline, it was a bright sunny day, so the Baron and “Sara,” followed by Lu Li and the others behind, didn’t use umbrellas, allowing the rain to soak their clothes.
The butler was greatly worried about the Baron’s health, but there was nothing she could do.
The two groups of people, spaced a distance from each other, occasionally attracted the attention of passersby, and soon, they saw the Baron and “Sara” enter a coffee shop.
“We’ll wait here,” the butler led them into a restaurant not far from the coffee shop, where the sparse restaurant had only one or two diners.
The butler openly revealed her identity, reserved the entire restaurant, and paid double to send the guests away.
The Exorcists sat by the display window and gazed toward the vague figures inside the coffee shop window.
The butler waved over the owner, asked him to prepare morning tea for the Exorcists, and then left the restaurant to head toward the coffee shop.
She wanted to be by the Baron’s side.
The other Exorcists had no appetite for food, only ordering some drinks, while Lu Li ordered a variety of high-protein, nutritious foods that could be prepared quickly.
After the camaraderie of the previous day, the three Exorcists had grown somewhat accustomed to Lu Li’s unusual behaviors, such as his constant desire to eat, and thus they naturally ignored this scene.
Suddenly, a dark silhouette passed by the street outside the window, and the arcane ancient sound flashed momentarily.
[“Perhaps we arrived too early; there’s still an hour and a half until the scheduled time.” Sara…]
