Detective Agency of the Bizarre -
Chapter 389 - 389 246
389: 246.
Plot Changes 389: 246.
Plot Changes The last glimmer of light disappeared above the dome, and the extended lights of Belfast by the mountain by the sea lit up.
Gazing from the summit of Sugard Mountain by the shore of Agate Lake, casting aside inner pressures and burdens, the bustling scenery was intoxicating.
The sea outside Crescent Bay was not entirely silent, with boats scattered on the surface heading back to port, and the lighthouse on the rocks guiding their way.
“I would be happy if you decided to stay,”
Baron Joseph brushed aside the strands of hair falling on his forehead and said softly standing next to Lu Li, who was still dressed as a maid, her skirt gently lifted by the breeze at the lakeside.
Feeling a chill, the Baron found it strange since the maid outfit was thick, and she was wearing knee-high socks.
“I need to return to the Detective Agency,” Lu Li withdrew her gaze from the city skyline and looked at the butler standing with his hands tied behind his back.
“Please wait a moment, I will prepare the carriage for you,” the butler said calmly, ignoring the Baron’s dissatisfied glares and quietly summoning another maid to arrange.
The Baron stepped back and then, feigning modesty, asked, “Why not have dinner before you go?”
Lu Li paused for a moment and then gently shook her head.
Wandering around at night during these times was not a wise choice, and a lavish dinner was not worth the risk for Lu Li.
A flicker of unfulfilled annoyance crossed the Baron’s eyes.
Regardless, when the butler stepped forward to inform Lu Li that the carriage was ready, the Baron could only watch bitterly as Lu Li walked towards the garden, glancing angrily at the unhelpful butler.
Oddly, as Lu Li left, the gloomy coldness causing her discomfort also faded away.
Was it Lu Li’s ghostly assistant?
The Baron touched the goosebumps that had appeared on his forearm.
Shortly after, the butler returned and said to the Baron, who was rubbing his arms by the lake, “It’s gotten cooler, let’s go back.”
The Baron turned, crossing his arms and said discontentedly, “Sometimes I feel like you are in love with that fellow and use little schemes to stop me.”
“I just think you should care more about your life at this time,” the butler’s response was still devoid of personal feelings.
“And you are a noble, you should show some restraint.”
“Restraint?
Everyone knows that I, Baron Joseph, have nothing to do with that word.” The Baron raised his head, his golden ponytail swaying behind him.
“I want him now!”
The butler did not respond.
Muttering more to himself, the Baron disdainfully tugged at his dress and complained, “It must be the maid’s attire that doesn’t complement my aura, hmm!
Lulu, immediately contact the tailor to alter my maid outfit.”
“I will not contact them,” the butler flatly refused.
“I command you as the Baron!”
“I refuse as the butler.”
“Tch…
then contact the makeup artist, I need a new look.”
“Very well.”
…
The carriage, lined with soft blankets, was void of any jolts.
“How much longer must we retain this commission?” Anna murmured from the Inner World, clear on what she saw, the Baron’s unsavory gaze on Lu Li like a predator, which annoyed her.
“Until the story ends.” “How did you feel today?” Lu Li asked.
Anna knew what he was referring to and thought for a moment before saying, “It seemed like the evil spirit ignored me…”
Lu Li appeared thoughtful; new ideas were forming in his mind.
…
Rain that had paused for several days returned at midnight.
The next morning dawned with a light drizzle blurring the windows as pedestrians hurried past.
Without having breakfast, Lu Li, after washing up, boarded the Baron’s Mansion carriage waiting outside the Long House and left the Sailor District.
In the carriage, Lu Li opened a newspaper he had bought from a street newsboy—the paper he subscribed to hadn’t arrived at the Detective Agency when he left.
“The strange occurrences at Zainster Port have departed!”
The headline caused Lu Li to pause his flipping of the pages.
Looking further down, more content came into view.
“The shadow that loomed over Zainster Port has dispersed.
Cloud-like crows circle the sky as police search for survivors in the city!”
The main body of the article was accompanied by a grainy black-and-white photo showing a sky filled with dense black dots, an empty city below, and a calm sea in the distance.
The Faceless Giant, whose presence in the photo could twist one’s mind with a mere glance, had vanished.
The newspaper provided no further details.
Today was Friday, and there were three more days until the next issue of “Investigator Weekly” where Lu Li would see the actual situation in Zenster City.
For example, the reason behind the disappearance of the Faceless Giant.
Lu Li slowed his reading pace, and by the time he was almost finished, the carriage had arrived at the cobblestone path along the Shore of Agate Lake.
The vast estate of Baron Joseph lay ahead.
Lu Li had glanced at the weather forecast, which predicted continued light rain tomorrow, with symbols for lightning and wind added the day after.
The precursor to the rainy season, a storm was coming.
After stepping out of the carriage and entering the mansion, a maid took Lu Li to the dining room of her own accord.
After breakfast, Lu Li changed into a servant’s attire and arrived outside a bedroom.
Three exorcists were already waiting there, greeting him.
It wasn’t long before the Baron and the butler appeared at the other end of the hallway.
The Baron was still dressed in yesterday’s maid outfit, the difference being that she had put on makeup today.
Pale, delicate skin was replaced by a sallow, darkened complexion with freckles dotted across the cheeks, and her strikingly soft blonde hair under the sun was intentionally disheveled and tied back into a ponytail.
The Baron looked like an ordinary young maiden maid.
“‘Sara’ leaving the house will likely involve Maid Irene, as nobility does not allow dignity to be insulted,” the nearby butler explained to the puzzled exorcists.
It was indeed difficult to recognize Baron Joseph in this disguise.
As the time for the ritual approached, Lu Li and the others entered the bedroom to wait.
“Chapter Five: Painful Reunions”
The hands of the clock on the table pointed to the hour, and a cryptic, ancient sound echoed deeply in everyone’s minds.
“Sara slowly opened her eyes; it had been a bad sleep, her insomnia long forgotten.
Rising from the bed, brilliant sunshine poured in through the window, Maid Irene was wiping dust from the desk, and other servants were quietly cleaning the room.
‘Do I look a bit haggard?’ Sara hesitantly asked Irene, who had noticed her awakening.
‘It seems a little …’ Maid Irene blinked.”
“It seems a little.” The Baron said coldly.
She was avoiding eye contact and wouldn’t look at Lu Li.
“What should I do, I can’t get rid of it …” Sara looked anxiously at Maid Irene, “Can you help me, Irene?
Help me!” Irene hesitated slightly before responding, “Are you really going to sneak out to meet?”
“Are you really going to sneak out to meet?”
“Yes!
We’ve already arranged it!” With Sara’s affirmation, Maid Irene quietly clenched her fist …
she had to tell the Family Head.
All present furrowed their brows simultaneously.
This didn’t sound quite right.
