The light in the bedroom dimmed in an instant, and the rising black mist nearly obscured the ceiling.
Within it, wavering lines of shadow descended from the mist, connecting to the heads of the four Exorcists.
At that moment, they were all drawn into the Evil Spirit Ritual.
The silhouette of a black-clad woman appeared before everyone’s eyes.
The short Exorcist, David, shifted uneasily.
[Like every day, Sara woke up to a sunny morning and saw her maid Irene—]
The obscure and ancient voice in their minds paused for a moment.
[Oh, and the four new servants who replaced Lily in attending to the daily routines of Miss Sara.
The harvest season had arrived, and Sara generously allowed the previous servants to return home to reap their fields.]
The Baron, disguised as a maid, couldn’t help but clench his fists.
Lily was the maid who had grown up with him since childhood.
[Sara couldn’t quite remember the names of the four new servants; the shy girl had her maid Irene help her dress.]
The Baron loosened his grip under his sleeve and, without a word, went to the bedside to put the dress that belonged to her onto the extended arms of the black silhouette.
Her movements had become skilled, and she quickly fitted the long dress and smoothed the folds at the hem.
[“The letter from that person has already been delivered to your study,” the maid Irene said with a light laugh.]
“The letter from that person has already been delivered to your study,” the Baron repeated the dialogue as planned.
The black silhouette stood up beside the bed and walked toward the door.
[Sara let out a light laugh, seemingly unconcerned, but her steps towards the door quickened.
“Where are you going, my lady?” The teasing voice of maid Irene came from behind her.]
“Where are you going, my lady?” The Baron’s tone in reality was quite stiff.
The four new “servants” quickly moved aside.
The shadowy figure disappeared behind the closed door, and after a moment, the Baron sat down beside the bed as if he had let out a sigh of relief.
“We’re safe for now.”
The plot revolved around the female protagonist, and when she left them, the obscure ancient voice fell silent.
The information given to them by the butler the night before included Sara’s routine.
After reading her letters in the morning, Sara would spend between ten to thirty minutes preparing her replies in the study.
After finishing her replies, she’d spend some time in the music room practicing piano and dance.
After lunch, in the afternoon, Sara would learn noble etiquette with her teacher until dinner and then to bed in the evening.
An extremely stable daily life.
During this time, the Baron and his fellow servants could be called upon at any moment, or they might not have any part to play at all.
They were but inconsequential supporting characters in the book, serving as mere greenery and soil to adorn Sara, the flower.
However, today their luck was not so good.
Minutes later, the obscure and ancient voice slowly resumed.
[“Wonderful!” The exclamation from the study alarmed the servants, who thought something had happened and rushed into the study.]
“An unexpected event,” the Baron said, putting on his shoes and leading the three new “servants” into the study.
[“What’s the matter!” Maid Irene rushed into the study anxiously and asked.]
“What’s the matter!” the Baron asked, looking at the black silhouette behind the desk, raising his voice slightly.
[“He is coming to see me!” Sara exclaimed excitedly, hugging maid Irene, almost forgetting the etiquette her tutor had taught her.
Maid Irene was taken aback for a moment, then gently hugged Sara, happy for her young lady, and for lovers eventually becoming followers.]
The Baron followed suit, stiffly embracing the approaching black silhouette.
There was no warmth, nor was it uplifting.

Maid Irene still remembered the beginning of Sara’s acquaintance with that man; after their brief first encounter, they had started corresponding by letters.
Three years had passed, and she finally saw the man gather the courage to want to meet with Sara.
“I will definitely make it happen!” Maid Irene thought firmly to herself.
After feeling excited for the young miss, Maid Irene remembered that there were four new servants in the study, worried that the matter might reach the Family Head’s ears, she hurriedly shooed the servants away.
“Leave,” said the Baron to Lu Li and the others.
As the four servants left the study and after they departed, Irene grabbed Sara’s hand, eagerly inquiring about the content of the letter—
The obscure and ancient voice no longer rose as Lu Li and the others moved away from the study.
Compared to Maid Irene, who still had a part in the scene, they were like transparent people outside the story, the “servants” that would be briefly mentioned and then forgotten.
This could be a good thing, or perhaps not.
They stopped in a corridor some distance from the study.
Occasionally, busy maids walked by, casting curious glances but never initiating interaction—they had already been forewarned by the butler.
This made them seem as if they were secluded in two different invisible worlds.
Petra glanced down the corridor with red carpets at the end, where the butler stood outside the study, with no sign of new activity emerging.
After a dozen minutes, the study door was pushed open, with the Baron and a black silhouette appearing at the doorway.
The obscure and ancient voice resumed.
“Clean the young miss’s bedroom,” Maid Irene instructed the servants, distracting them to stealthily slip away with the young miss to the garden.
The Exorcists complied, arriving outside the bedroom, they picked up the brooms and cloths that had been prepared and started lightly cleaning the room.
“Are we going to keep cleaning here?”
After a while, David complained in a low voice.
“I couldn’t ask for more,” another Exorcist, Lola, shrugged, “It’s far better than facing the horror of evil spirits.”
If possible, he wished to maintain this situation until the end; it would be the easiest task they had ever undertaken.
The three Exorcists indeed no longer bore the solemnity of the beginning, apart from the always calm-faced Lu Li.
He was indeed pondering deeper matters.
For instance, was the story really as simple as it currently appeared?
Sara’s Book of Death always weighed on one’s mind.
Lu Li always had but a slight understanding of this world, which whilst demanding a greater expenditure of his energy, also kept him vigilant against anything that might occur—
Weakness and ignorance were not obstacles to survival, but arrogance was.
Thomas’s funeral had taken place just a few days ago, and the cause of his death remained clear in everyone’s mind.
The aimless morning passed in calm, and after serving Sara lunch, the Baron followed them back to the bedroom, where she told Lu Li and the others that the letter stated the man had arrived in Sara’s city, and tomorrow Sara would secretly leave the manor to meet with him.
If there was to be any twist in the story, it would happen tomorrow.
In the afternoon, Sara left the piano room, and the Baron and others went to the piano room “to clean.” By five in the afternoon, Sara had finished her dinner and returned to her bedroom to drift into dreamland.
Clasping onto the longing and anticipation for tomorrow, Sara slowly fell asleep…
The obscure and ancient voice gradually faded away, disappearing into oblivion.
Chapter Four ended.
This signified that they had moved one step closer to the conclusion.
