Chapter 37: Fake boyfriend
Chapter 37: Fake boyfriend
Chapter thirty seven
Shock held me speechless for a few extra seconds.
"Oh god! Is that true, Oliver! You never told me!" Mom wore an equally shocked look, not nothing else in her features revealed if she thought it was a good or bad thing.
As for Kieran’s mother, she had a smile on her lips. As though it was some kind of great achievement Kieran had accomplished, didn’t his sudden ’gay’ revelation about dating a guy shock her?
She of all people should know her son was straight like a measuring tape!
Hell no. I was still freaking the hell out, my teeth were chattering but it had nothing to do with the cold.
Kieran lifted a challenging brow as though daring me to defy him, but this was way too big of a lie. I couldn’t deal with it. Even if he hurt me, I couldn’t do this.
"Actually, M-Mom, it’s like t-this... We a... are..." My pathetic stutter was swallowed by his voice which was high above mine.
"Why are you so scared Ollie? I know you think your mom won’t approve. But I know her as well as you do. Your happiness is the most important thing to her. Isn’t that right?" He directed the question at my mom. "We’ve been keeping this secret for long, I think it’s finally time to make it official, Ollie. I even stopped coming to your house because my dear Ollie was afraid you’d find it suspicious,"
Oh god!
His dear WHAT???
This couldn’t be happening!!
"Uh... u..." Mom was also at a loss for words.
I snapped an angry glare in Kieran’s direction. Whatever prank he was playing better come to an end. I tossed the blanket aside and straightened to my feet.
"Mom, Mrs. Morrison. It isn’t true. Mom, you know I would never get a boyfriend. He’s only kidding," I said with a nervous laugh, casting a secret glare at Kieran.
"You don’t have to deny your relationship, Oliver. But you should have told me you guys were dating. Am I really so scary that you can’t freely tell me things anymore? We’ll talk about this later," Mom spoke. Her voice had a twinge of hurt.
What?
She was buying such an obvious lie??
"Mom, it’s not true!"
"Oliver!" Mom warned me sternly, her gaze was sharp as though telling me that the cat had already been let lose and I shouldn’t keep lying.
But I’m not lying.
The jerk had the guts to smirk at me. What would he gain by doing all this? By lying that we were dating? I couldn’t think of what benefit it would bring to him. But I sure could think of a few problems it would pose to me.
"Don’t be hard on either of them. I’m really happy about this news. I hope you’ll come here often, Oliver. Besides we all saw it coming, Kieran always liked you," Mrs. Morrison spoke with a bright smile and my brain suddenly felt rotten.
Like me?
Joke of the century.
Mom and Mrs. Morrison hugged each other and said their goodbyes. They promised to see each other more often. I began to walk toward the door, hoping for a quiet and quick escape with Mom, I’d just have to explain everything thoroughly to her later.
Just as I walked past Kieran, he grabbed my arm, jerking me to his side, his arm clasped around my waist, and his face was dangerous close to my neck.
Heat pumped through me, his closeness, this embarrassment. " Stop it," My teeth clenched out the word as he squeezed my stomach through the material of my clothes... well, his clothes.
I was burning with the consciousness that both his mom and mine were staring at us.
"You better play along. Don’t forget you promised to be my little puppet. I’m being your master from this moment," he whispered low in my ear. His words sent a shiver through my body.
He let go of me, flashing me a charming smile that showed off his perfect white teeth.
I was struck breathless. Even though I knew the smile was fake, he hadn’t smiled at me in years. This was so different from all those mocking smirks he threw my way.
He probably did it to further convince Mom that we were a couple but it didn’t lessen the effect the smile had on me.
"Goodbye, Ollie, see you soon," He released me reluctantly and I stumbled away from him. It was still all too much to take in.

I knew what to expect from the moment we stepped out of the car and walked into the house. Mom’s silence throughout the drive had spoken more volumes than if she had yelled.
I understood her silence. I guess it was time for me to get her screams.
"Why didn’t you tell me! You never told me you guys became friends again, let alone boyfriends. Why?" she yelled.
"M-Mom..."
"I’m still talking, young man, and you should listen to me!"
Oops, my bad. But I thought her first words had ended with a question mark?
Either way, I knew she was going to disapprove. I wanted to see Kieran’s reaction when she told him she didn’t want to see him anywhere near me.
"Did you think I wouldn’t have allowed it? Is this why you chose to hide things from me?" she spoke softly this time, her gaze flickered with a concern I hadn’t expected.
Okay, I wasn’t liking the direction of this. Where were her screams? Or her telling me to break up with him first thing tomorrow? And how a relationship at this stage was going to ruin my life ?
"You both have always been friends since childhood. After that incident, I never thought you both would get past it. I’m really so happy for you both, Oliver."
I stared at her with my mouth open. First, it had been Kieran. Now even she had managed to shock the hell out of me. The sun must have rose in the west this morning because what the hell is happening, it felt as though I was watching some other teenage boy’s life through my eyes
"You a-approve?" I stammered. Dread was building slowly and spreading rapidly. This was getting a whole lot more serious than I thought.
"Of course. And I would love to see you both work out. I’ve always been fond of Kieran, despite everything, he’s a good boy,"
WHAAAT?
Oh shit!
My phone buzzed with a text message, it was my small old button phone that I had as a child, it was still functional, better than using Pumpkin’s and losing my privacy.
I pulled it out with shaking hands, somehow I already knew who it was.
Unknown Number: Hope you enjoyed our little performance today. This is just the beginning, pet. Don’t even think about telling anyone the truth. You’re mine now. - your boyfriend
The blood drained from my face. I looked up at Mom, who was still smiling happily about my fake relationship.
This was so much worse than I thought.
