Chapter 36: Shattered spell

Chapter thirty six

**Oliver West**

Mom and Mrs. Morrison chose that moment to burst inside the bathroom. The door banged open and wide eyes fell on us, and the genuine horror in their eyes shattered the spell.

I could see the awkwardness of our position through their gaze, Kieran’s hand was still pressed against my shoulders. He still held me flattened against the wall, both our bodies were soaking wet.

"What is going on here? Oliver, we heard your voice. Are you alright?" Mom asked, her voice was filled with panic as she regarded me. Perhaps, it was the fact that I was still fully dressed beneath the shower that made her seem to not guess the wrong meaning.

"Oh my!" Mrs. Morrison gasped aloud, her hand flying to her chest.

I met Kieran’s gaze and disappointment welled deep inside of me. This was the closest we had ever been on an emotional level. His gaze that had been so deep with all the emotions he felt were now hidden behind a blank mask.

The moment we had a few minutes ago was shattered. Whatever connection we had almost found was gone, replaced by his familiar frosty stare.

He abruptly let go of me. We both stepped out of the shower area as I tried to hide my shivering from the cold. I followed Mom back to the bedroom.

His bedroom.

A few moments after, I was draped in a thick blanket. I guess I couldn’t hide my trembling well enough

His mom had also given me Kieran’s clothes to change into and right now, I felt as though I was completely covered by his scent, something that was even worse than the cold. His shirt and pants were simply too big to fit my frame, I also felt nervous. Extremely so, would he be mad at this?

I looked around Kieran’s room curiously, noticing for the first time that Vince was nowhere around the room.

Kieran returned from the bathroom shortly. This time, a white towel was draped around his midsection. Another one hung across his shoulders, our gaze met and my body burned with awareness of how his eyes lingered on his clothes on my body, was he mad? I couldn’t interprete his strange look.

I was also staring at his body, well I was doing more than just stare, in the bathroom, I had been too anxious to fully notice every detail. The small scar on his shoulder grabbed my attention, the small malformation was clearly a fire burn.

From when he had saved me, the guilt og this forced me to away from his well formed chest muscles that were still gleaming with water droplets that dribbled down to his abdomen.

His mother marched toward him, her face was compressed with anger.

"Kieran, what were you doing to him? I invited them over here, which means they are my guests. Couldn’t you at least behave properly for today? Why do you have to frustrate me all the time!" she yelled.

I looked from her to Kieran. His jaw was clenched tight. I could see how rigid he became at her words.

Their relationship was already fragile, I didn’t want whatever pieces that might be remaining to shatter all because of me. Kieran would also hate me more if his mother yelled at him because of me. Technically, it was my fault for invading his room in the first place.

He opened his mouth and I guessed it was probably to come back with a harsh retort. But I beat him to it.

"He didn’t hurt me, Mrs. Morrison," I blurted out.

All pairs of eyes in the room snapped toward my direction. Even Kieran’s gaze held a hint of confusion, which was soon replaced by indifference.

"What are you saying? You don’t have to cover up for him. You are shivering from the cold. What else can it be if not that he hurt you?" his mother replied. Her gaze softened as she looked at me. "We all remember that you are allergic to cold water,"

I looked away from Kieran’s unwavering stare which was burning holes through me. I continued my lie, racking my brains for answers, but even my stupid brain came up blank, at this moment when I needed it the most.

"Actually, he didn’t. I... I... I took a shower with him!" I blurted out the lie. I heard Mom’s loud gasp and it suddenly dawned on me how those words sounded.

The heat of embarrassment crept from my neck. It spread straight to my cheeks. I slapped myself mentally.

"No... It’s like this. A dare! Yes, we both had a dare to see who can last longer in the cold shower!" I quickly explained.

At least this sounded more believable. Or at least, I hoped so.

The silence in the room was eating at my nerves. Mom’s gaze was filled with so many questions. Mrs. Morrison’s gaze was filled with guilt. She probably felt bad because she thought she had accused Kieran wrongly. And as for Kieran? Those metallic gray eyes were still staring at me. I just hoped he wouldn’t spill anything, I didn’t want my mom to know how deep his hatred for me ran.

"How could you play such a game when you know that you catch cold so easily? And why wasn’t he wearing a shirt? I hope you know that you aren’t kids anymore when you used to play around naked," Mom spoke. She directed the words especially at me, almost like she was sounding a warning.

I went rigid not from her tone, but at the hard look that crossed Kieran’s gaze.

Maybe mom shouldn’t have brought up anything about our childhood. Now he was going to burst out and spill everything.

The moment he opened his mouth, I felt as though the sky would fall on me.

"Actually, we know that we aren’t kids. Oliver, didn’t you tell her? You promised you did," he spoke, pinning me with a look that promised torture.

I was confused but at the same time freaking out. What did he mean by that?

Wherever this was heading, I knew it wouldn’t end well for me.

Now Mom was staring at me expectantly, her eyes bright with curiousity. "What didn’t you tell me?"

I was completely at a loss for what to say. What the heck was Kieran up to? I started to think of a lie, it was difficult because I didn’t know what Kieran’s game was.

His eyes held a mocking glint even as he spoke again.

"Actually, your son and I are a couple. He promised to inform you of our relationship."

His words were like a metal rod cracked across my skull. My eyes went wide. I was sure my jaw was hitting the floor.

What. The. Hell!!!
