Chapter 30: [30] Ellen’s urgency {2}
"It’s a new trick that I learnt recently." Zick spoke coldly, breaking Ellen’s concentration.
Though immensely curious, Ellen still didn’t touch Zick’s embodied pen recklessly. That would be a discourteous action.
"....Can I take a closer look?"
Ellen’s fingle wriggled subconsciously, wanting to dissect the pen immediately.
".... Don’t damage it." Zick didn’t stop her and turned to his mobile.
Taking the pen from Zick’s hand, Ellen circulated her mana into it. She scanned every part of it, her brows furrowing deeper by the second.
It was a perfect embodiment...
Having taken extensive study on mage’s field, Ellen was very knowledgeable about embodiment.
Hence, she knew that there was no existing method that can Embody without any special instrument.
’A trick...?’ Ellen remembered Zick’s words.
However, she couldn’t come out and ask Zick without offering anything in return. That was how it worked when mages shared their insights with each other.
’Could it be a new discovery....or really a trick, as he says.’ Ellen felt suffocated, she has never felt stuck in her life like this, when it came to magic.
Taking away the pen, Zick headed towards professor Rusciel.
Ellen didn’t realise, but half an hour had passed since she was lost in her thoughts.
"...You should start doing your assignment before it’s too late." Zick squinted at Ellen’s pale complexion.
Ellen came back to reality, watching Zick hand over his pen to the surprised professor. Having lost her only clue on the new technique, life left her face.
’He’s not even a mage...will he be interested in exchanging knowledge with me?’ Ellen was unsure as she performed her own embodiment.
Walking out of the classroom, Zick’s face grimaced.
’System....why are my instincts screaming at me to stay away from her?’ Zick clutched his heart.
There were multiple moments when he wanted to talk with Ellen, but as if someone was holding his heart, goosebumps rose immediately allover his body.
He trusted his instinct and it was telling him to keep his distance from Ellen.
[Ellen possesses destiny that plays an important role in this world. If the host stops her from joining Ethereal, the fate line may crumble. The host’s current destiny rank can’t take the load.]
[You may suffer from misfortune if you continue.]
Zick held back from showing too much expression and headed to an empty garden to sit down. There was still a while before his [Swordsmanship] course started.
"Haaa....."
Zick stared into the sky blankly.
Why was it always like this? Is it due to his [Luck overflow] talent?
He didn’t know....
Finding many of his body parts twitching, as if he was going to have a stroke - Zick gritted his teeth.
’System....give me a way to quicken Ellen’s health degradation.’ Zick clasped his hands.
Misfortune? He didn’t care about it.
’I don’t care about developing relationships with her....As I thought, it doesn’t suit me.’ Zick coldly sneered.
’I will make her submit to me and marry her with benefits as the bondage.’
[Ding! 100 destiny points are required to get ways to quicken Syepterc disease.]
"Take it."
Without any warning, a flood of knowledge was injected into Zick’s mind, his eyes hazy losing its focus.
’Chaos cells growing in Ellen can be strengthened by being exposed to light elements?’
It’s a piece of knowledge that didn’t exist anywhere in the world.
’Light element....huh, I just embodied the pen with a light element.’
Zick quickly recalled Ellen’s pale face after staying near the pen for a while. He didn’t think of it much back then, but now it became clear to his mind.
Syepterc was a very rare disease, the chances of studying it being even rarer. It has been noted that anyone suffering from it has never lived past two weeks.
Clack~
Someone gently walked towards Zick, breaking his concentration.
Ellen, tilted her head at Zick: "Why are you gloomy all of a sudden."
"...What do you want?"
Zick spoke, appearing not very welcoming externally. Internally, he was very welcoming of Ellen, he didn’t have to make a trip himself.
’She finished the assignment quite fast.’
Ellen stayed rooted in place at Zick’s question. Her mind turning rapidly, she took out a book from her storage ring after a few seconds.
"I wrote many of my own thoughts of intermediate spells in this book. Can you tell me about the trick....you used to perform that embodiment."
Zick froze, his eyes slowly contacting Ellen: "Have you ever had an exchange with another mage?"
"No, I never saw a reason to."
Seeing Ellen shake her head, Zick extended his hand towards her: "Give me a pen or any small object, I will only show it once to you. I’m not interested in the mage profession, so you can keep your book."
"Oh..." Ellen hesitantly handed a pen to Zick. She didn’t like taking free things, she knew that there was never any free stuff in the world. Especially, for a politically affected person like Ellen.
"You will not be able to do it anyway."
Suddenly hearing Zick’s word, Ellen’s ever unchanging expression broke. Dissatisfaction written all over her face.
"We will see." She hummed as if she would show him.
Zick used [Reality manipulation] again, embodying a pen just like that.
"...." This time, Ellen watched the whole process, she was sure that it wasn’t simple. She could feel an unknown power appearing and disappearing instantly.
"You can have it." Zick handed over the pen naturally with a blank face.
It was done....he was sure that Ellen would study the pen extensively after receiving it and that would quicken her health’s deterioration.
Watching Ellen walking away, Zick got up too.
’She might have hope of survival deep down, since she survived so many mana diseases before. One or two days, that should be enough to make her bedridden.’ Zick calculated with the knowledge provided by the system.
While walking in the corridor, Zick came across a familiar face.
Celene Arshein.
Her cold eyes glanced at him and looked away naturally.
’I really don’t like her and her family...’ Zick suppressed his emotions as always, aware that it might erupt someday.
Heading towards the cafeteria, he came across Dershein, hence going together.
With his habit of observing others, Zick noticed a few abnormalities on Dershein. As if he was hesitant in speaking up.
’Did Ethereal extend their hands to him already? Winning him over now does seem beneficial to them...’
Aster couldn’t suppress Zick by herself, so gathering other cadets to help them seemed logical.
’If they have made a move against him, it shouldn’t be long before they contact Ellen too....they always aim for people with strong destiny, do they have the power to see destiny too?’
It was a matter worth finding out, it can be used against them if used properly.
As for Dershein, Zick took a wait and see stance. He didn’t have the power to give Dershein what he desired right now.
...
There was no other course that Ellen needed to attend next, therefore she arrived at her room ignoring the invitation from Karlin.
Her body was exhausted and there was a limit to what could be hidden.
Taking out a bottle, sitting on the table - Ellen gulped down the substance in it with weak movements. Her arms are shaking with every small action.
It was an elixir provided by her family, to fill her body’s stolen life-force.
’It’s different from before....I’m dying...?’
As the one going through Syepterc, Ellen was aware of her body’s condition better than anyone. there was no feeling of recovering at all
She hugged her shoulders with shaking hands, her white hair rolling down the shoulders.
-it was different than before...
-I am not the same ignorant person as before....
-I can definitely survive....
Such thoughts kept repeating over and over in her head.
After going through so many mana diseases, Ellen had done her best to get her medical knowledge to a high level too.
However, she was not aware that sometimes knowledge can also be a curse. Especially to the weak minded.
Ellen was completely aware of the Syepterc disease’s history and what it does.
A slow and a cruel death....sucking away the life-force and until not even a drop is left. Their appearance was imaginable, becoming a mummy-like being.
Touching her cheek, Ellen turned her attention to the pen that Zick embodied. She wanted to shift her attention to studying instead.
’The doctor said I have more than a week....Just what am I supposed to do?’
Ignoring the thought that arose, Ellen lost herself in analyzing the pen.
She would be only disappointed in the end. It was no different than a normal embodied item.
However, with her talent, she did discover the reality element in it.
’A new element...? Zick discovered a new element...?’ She knew the value of this discovery more than anyone.
With it, Zick could probably become a senior in the magic tower easily.
’Can this element help me?’
This thought made Ellen study this newly discovered element more. She couldn’t help but stick to any hope that appeared before her.
