Chapter 29: [29] Ellen’s urgency {1}

Walking towards the diamond classroom with quick strides, Zick observed his chest and was satisfied with not finding any scar.

He had an aversion to scars, it would just make him remember bad memories.

More than anything, he wanted this round to be different. Zick was ready to suffer for his revenge, he would however reject unnecessary suffering.

’I have used [Disguise] to hide my sudden increase in strength, but it can’t hide me against the chairman and other strong men...’ Zick could only be cautious and be hidden.

"Hmm...." Zick focused on his hearing, sensing someone to be walking towards him.

His senses were enhanced to a degree too after the operation. It gave rise to an unfamiliar feeling within Zick.

’Training for a while should fix it...’

Rising his head, a man in a noble suit greeted him.

Khein took a deep look at Zick, refusing to start a conversation and continued into the classroom.

’That guy is definitely keeping an eye on me. I will make a move on him when he uses his other identity...’

After intense contemplating, Zick didn’t want to expose his real identity in the end.

’Zick....that name must always stay in a positive light.’

Zick sat down on his table blankly, Finding Karlin staring at him from the corner of her eyes.

"I must not talk to him....no talking, that’s what father said..."

Listening to Karlin’s muttering, Zick raised an eyebrow.

Quickly scanning through recent incidents in his mobile. Zick could only sigh slightly at the trending article.

[Dejlin heritage and Arshein family’s long lasting marriage contract was dissolved!]

’So the Arshein family still decide to take Ethereal’s side. Just what could have they offered? They always have plans as if they could see the future...’

Zick actually wouldn’t be surprised if they could.

He felt pressure internally, though he had grown rapidly, his enemies were increasing at a rapid rate too.

Not bothering to talk with Karlin, who kept whispering to herself - Zick looked forward. His eyes gazing past Ellen’s empty chair.

’Has it already started? Ellen had continued attending Classes naturally before my regression, it shouldn’t be any different this round.’

Winning over Ellen was first priority in the agenda. Marriage and so on could wait for the future.

If Ellen joins Ethereal again, he wouldn’t just lose an excellent pawn, he would also create a tough opponent for himself.

’Killing her without exposing my involvement will be a pain in the ass...’

As Zick was lost in his thoughts, Khein started the class without hesitation.

"Today, Ellen will not be able to attend the general class due to family issues. You can hand in today’s notes to her later on." Khein spoke emotionlessly, scribbling on the board with his free hand.

He continued: "The ranking for the general assignment will be announced within the evening and the ranking rewards will be delivered to your rooms directly."

Zick’s eyes shone upon hearing Khein’s words. He has waited for a long time for this reward.

Dershein took glances at Zick, before hesitantly greeting him.

Nodding at him, Zick fell into contemplation, taking notes sometimes. He wasn’t very interested as it was just a history lesson.

’Ethereal must have watched me head to Dr. Brawn’s hospital. They must be cracking their heads to find any evidence of me modifying myself. They won’t get anything, unless I or Dr. Brawn leak it ourselves. I hope they bite into this trap....’

Zick was really itchy to make a move against Ethereal. No matter how small it may be, so he used a trap he came up with at the start of his revenge.

It loses its effectiveness after using it a few times, but it could annoy an organization like Ethereal.

Once someone convicts Zick of modifying his body, he could trace it back to Ethereal.

Wouldn’t killing this person destroy one of their connections? A petty act, but that was his limit for now.

As for being convicted? He could easily get past it without any evidence. Even if it reaches a dangerous position, he could use system to fabricate the results.

Finishing the general classes, Zick headed to [Basic mana application], a course he chose besides swordsmanship.

Arriving early at the huge stadium-like classroom, Zick sat on one of the back rows.

He focused on the new strength he has obtained.

[Reality element],

It left a very strong impression in Zick’s mind. It was also the hardest element to deal with, unless you have a stronger element or talent to oppose it, [reality element] is practically unstoppable.

There was a single spell that formed the foundation of [Reality element].

[Reality manipulation] - a spell that was divided into multiple levels. Every higher level has the power to blow people’s imagination apart.

Zick gathered a lot of information about things that he might fight across. That was all he could do to increase his chances of survival. Hence, he knew about the reality element too.

Instinctually, Zick could feel that his [Reality manipulation] was already level 2. It was a welcoming surprise, the dragon heart most likely pushed it to the next level.

Mages are divided into multiple stages: [Beginner], [intermediate], [advanced] and [Master].

With just a single spell Zick could show strength comparable to [intermediate] rank mage.

Staring at the window, Zick slowly opened his mouth: "...[Vanish]"

The air stopped moving and the window was nowhere to be seen. A thick wall taking its place.

"...." Zick concentrated intently and his mana depleted at a rapid rate.

The window appeared back in its place.

Words can be used as a catalyst to activate [Reality manipulation] or it can be used by focusing internally too. It was no different than what he read in the articles before.

Taking a glance at the camera, Zick smirked and started to erase what he just did.

"Two thirds of my mana was used just by using it thrice. Though I use it in a crude manner, leading to extra mana consumption, it’s still a very mana demanding element."

After a few seconds, Zick activated [Assimilation (SS)], absorbing all the mana around him at a rapid rate.

"..."

Within a minute, his mana recovered to its peak. It was necessary to see how much abuse his body could take like this, before using such a method multiple times at once.

However, he could only stop his action, sensing cadets arriving at the class.

As the cadets gathered in the room, Zick squinted his eyes sensing Ellen’s presence. Turning his head, he could see her sitting a seat away from him.

Her pale complexion and hazy eyes exposed her turbulent mind.

They both nodded at each other and looked forward at the same time.

Having grown very sensitive to mana, Zick could feel the decaying mana around Ellen. He could even tell her strength as a mage, which was around [Intermediate] rank.

Not just her, Zick could measure everyone’s strength to a degree just by taking a look at them. He could see the mana around them if he focused too

As Zick took a glance at Aster in the front rows, the door of the room was slowly pushed open.

The middle aged women with wavy blue hair walked into the room.

She was Rusciel, the professor for diamond class - [basic mana application].

Seeing everyone to be present, Rusciel nodded her head slightly.

"I couldn’t distribute the assignment in the prior week, so I will conduct a small test for you birdlings right now. It is related to the recently completed lesson - spell embodiment."

Listening to the details of the sudden assignment, Zick didn’t change his expression. He knew about it, as he had failed in it quite wonderfully before.

’It might be a chance to expose the reality element to Ellen.’

Rusciel spoke with a smile: "Embody any spell to an object and show it to me within two hours. You are not allowed to leave the room, and I know that this assignment is easier for mages. You need to be able to do this much if you want to continue learning in this course."

Rusciel sat down and took out a bundle of paper, getting busy with her work.

"...."

There were very few spells that Zick knew. He couldn’t help but quit learning magic looking at those formulas that refused to stay in his head. Hence, he could only use a few basic spells he learnt at lower education.

’Why do they have to make it so complicated?’ Zick shook his head.

He was very satisfied with the reality element due to this reason. There were no complicated spells, but there are a few disadvantages.

To strengthen his reality element, Zick can only strengthen his [Magic heart] or find spells pertaining to this element to progress further.

’I should visit Dr. Brawn sometime soon....’ Zick didn’t know anywhere else where he could find spells of reality element.

Seeing Ellen lost in thought, Zick took out a pen and released his mana to attract attention slightly.

In his mind-

Why go through all the complicated stuff?

Zick just took one of the spells in his head and pasted it on the pen using [Reality manipulation].

At that moment, the pen glowed in a yellowish light, giving out light continuously like a candle. He used a simple - [Illumination] spell.

Ellen sitting not far from him, opened her mouth agape.

’What did I just see? He used embodiment without any instrument...?’

For a second, Ellen had her mind shut down on her. She didn’t care about the weak feeling around her body and moved towards the pen that pulled all her attention at this moment.

Zick held back his smile seeing Ellen’s possessed movement.

Would she really be a mage if she isn’t curious about the unknown?

’Her condition hasn’t deteriorated too much yet, I need to slowly expose my cards to her...’
