Chapter 958: Chapter 709 Fifth Tier?_2
Only by improving one’s own strength can one effectively confront a crisis.
Roger felt a heaviness settling over his mood.
Because this time, he had nowhere to run.
Right now, he possessed abundant vitality, and the Door and the Lamp had effectively constructed the dual core of a Fifth Tier Transcendent.
His combat strength had skyrocketed, and most importantly, Roger’s abilities were peculiar; his combat power in Another World far surpassed other Fifth Tiers.
Unknowingly, he had crossed numerous barriers that many Transcendents could never breach in their lifetimes.
Later, Roger didn’t see Jora. The flame cycle between the two had only helped Jora resolve the hidden dangers in his body, but it would take some time for his strength to recover to its peak.
The valley was silent, with everyone deep in their thoughts, even Amanda, though the weakest among them, was following Roger’s guidance in her cultivation. By the time she returned to her body, it wouldn’t take long for her to become the top figure in the new Fraction.
Flame Dragon.
As night descended, the ruins on the outskirts of the Barza Plains near the Lyme River Basin lit up brightly.
Floating in the sky were dozens of glowing orbs, some fixed in place while a few drifted about. Against the illumination, countless silhouettes moved.
"Many times, having the numbers exceed a certain limit does indeed bring convenience."
From within an exceptionally large cluster of light, a voice emerged. It was a man in his fifties, his amber eyes fixed on the construction below.
"These people won’t hold out for long; within five days, they’ll all be dead. How many will be left alive then?" he asked coldly.
"Rest assured, Lord Wusobi; they will last long enough for us to complete the mission before dying off,"
a youthful voice answered. "My Lord, devouring this entire plain should hasten the rate of power growth, right?" It came from a young man in his twenties, clad in a gray-blue robe, his words tinged with envy.
"It only adds land," Wusobi responded. "It will take time to transform it into population, and cultivating reproduction will consume even more time. While short-term changes are negligible, in a decade or two, it will surely accelerate the accumulation of life essence for me significantly."
"Then I must offer congratulations in advance."
The two exchanged words intermittently.
Down below, the workers’ eyes were hollow, their faces gaunt; some hands had been worn down to white bone, yet they seemed unable to feel pain or exhaustion, continuing their mechanical labor nonetheless.
"Our turn now."
The middle-aged man named Wusobi remarked. Even a Giant Dragon couldn’t conjure up a building out of thin air; the process involved too many intricate details, but such mundane labor could be tackled by the masses.
They only needed to act when absolutely necessary.
In the enormous shadows of the structures, shadows left by Roger gradually surfaced, melting into the darkness. He lifted his gaze, studying his surroundings.
The entire city seemed bustling, yet all those operating within were already doomed to death. At the base of the structure was a massive array.
Roger wasn’t versed in the Transcendent powers of Erode.
But that didn’t stop him from analyzing the spatial energy contained within it.
"Something’s strange."
"Beyond teleportation, there’s something I don’t understand; the function of this building is definitely more complex."
He contemplated briefly, deciding to probe further.
Soon, massive shadows began to distort, causing the surrounding structures to tremble. The ground shook, and the building swayed precariously.
"What’s happening?" Wusobi shouted loudly, "Quickly, stabilize it somehow!"
Before his words even finished, he transformed into a Giant Dragon, mist surging forth, expanding around him to form an enormous bubble.
The swaying subsided rapidly, stabilizing at last amid the Dragon’s roar.
"Phew..."
Wusobi hadn’t even had time to exhale when the encompassing bubble suddenly shattered, and the teetering building collapsed instantly.
Those who hadn’t escaped in time were entirely buried, leaving behind nothing but ruins.
Roger remained hidden in the shadows, incurring no suspicion.
"It’s over... How did such a massive blunder occur?"
"Lord Heyman won’t forgive us!"
"Shut up! It was just an accident; I’ll find a way to manage Lord Heyman..."
"A way, what way?"
A streak of golden light shot from the ground into the sky, where a figure clad in golden armor, Heyman, appeared.
"My Lord!" Wusobi exclaimed, his face filled with panic.
At that moment, Roger hid in the corner, observing the formidable figure of Heyman in the air, a thought arose in his mind: "What an opportunity. If I don’t seize the chance for an ambush here, it’d almost seem wasteful."
He began calculating the likelihood of a single decisive strike.
Based on past experiences, Roger estimated at least a sixty percent chance of success.
If he could assassinate Heyman here, the entire situation in Erode would shift significantly. Even remaining in this world would be far less precarious, and he could even explore other gains.
That bizarre world of ice and snow still harbored untold secrets...
Roger grew restless.
As time ticked by, he quickly calculated over a dozen possibilities, narrowing it down to the three most promising options.
But just as Roger was about to take the leap, a pale hand emerged suddenly from Heyman’s shadow.
Then followed a tall figure cloaked in black.
"Inspector, my Lord." Heyman turned and spoke, "I thought we agreed..."
"She’s not here; it wasn’t that woman’s doing." A hoarse, deep voice replied.
"Could it simply be a mere accident?"
Heyman furrowed his brow.
"No one can hide in the shadows from my scrutiny."
"Have them clear the ruins and restart." The Inspector commanded coldly.
Watching the two figures in the sky, Roger shrank back further into the shadows, avoiding direct sight and barely sensing them to avoid drawing their attention.
The strange introduction of the black-cloaked figure caused Roger to associate them with several things. Furthermore, he faintly sensed... a familiar connection.
"Could his powers also stem from shadows?"
"No, that’s not right."
Roger shook his head, abandoning any intention to act. Hesitating for a moment, he lifted his gaze, staring directly at the black-cloaked figure.
In the next instant, Roger’s shadow vanished from the darkness.
"Hmm?"
Floating in the air, the Inspector let out a faint sound, his pale hand lightly tapping, instantly igniting the area Roger had just fled, prompting Heyman to dive without hesitation.
Boom!
Like a meteor striking the ground, Heyman exclaimed, "There’s nothing down here."
"Maybe I sensed it wrong."
The Inspector replied briefly before disappearing into the air.
Heyman scowled, "Clean up the debris and restart."
He commanded coldly, "I have only one expectation: do not waste my time. I want the Black Tower’s revival within the timeframe!"
"But, honorable Speaker, the collapse has crushed too many people—our manpower is critically short..."
"Oh?"
Heyman raised his brows, "Are you blaming me?"
"No..."
"As a Guardian, your kingdom still has plenty of inhabitants, right? Those missing, have them replenish!"
"But, my Lord!"
Ulaby’s face turned visibly pale.
"You can make your own choice—let them die, or let yourself die."
Golden light flashed as Heyman’s figure completely vanished.
Elsewhere, within the palace in the valley, Roger shivered slightly, sensing something rising behind him.
"Forget it," he muttered. "Whatever their aim is, I need to prioritize getting Amanda out of here safely."
With no further worries, Roger believed that even if war shattered the land, he’d find a way to ensure his survival.
Time passed, and Sonia had nearly completed the final stage of her transformation; only the last step remained for her to enter the Fifth Tier.
But crossing into the Fifth Tier would undoubtedly draw everyone’s attention. A diversionary tactic was needed to shift Jora’s focus.
