Chapter 937: Chapter 699: Speak Properly, I’m a Decent Person_2

Jora’s facial muscles twitched. In this moment, she just wanted to curse and slap the man in front of her to death!

Sigh...

Roger also wore a helpless expression.

What has this world come to?

He was full of enthusiasm, frequently trying to help others, yet why was he always misunderstood?

However, Jora soon managed to calm her turbulent emotions. She took a couple of deep breaths and changed the subject.

"I was attacked again just now. It was Heyman and that black-robed individual. Luckily, I noticed in time and immediately disengaged from the fight."

"If I had made the slightest mistake, I would probably already be dead."

Jora looked deeply shaken.

"It seems you’ve become their greatest obstacle. This is now a fight to the death between you and them."

Roger nodded and added from the side.

"That’s why I need your help. I misunderstood you earlier. I put too much faith in the bonds of blood. But now it seems that my brother died hundreds of years ago."

"The one alive now... is nothing more than an executioner who shares our bloodline."

Jora sighed deeply.

"Heyman’s talent isn’t particularly outstanding; his strength growth is limited. One-on-one, he’s absolutely no match for me. But what’s troublesome is that black-robed individual."

"He’s from the Dragon Court, a patrolman. I don’t even know if that person is a man or a woman, and his power itself is extremely strange."

"Last time, it was his sneak attack that caught me off guard, and his weapon can devour our Vitality, greatly weakening combat strength."

"If the two of them join forces, I won’t stand a chance."

"So, you’re asking me to team up with you against them?" Roger looked hesitant.

"Compared to you, I’m far weaker in real power. Even if I agree to help, at most I can only buy you some time."

"Ultimately, the outcome won’t change."

Roger put on a face that screamed weakness, while inwardly thinking, "When else would it be better to seize some benefits than now?"

He felt absolutely no shame when dealing with Jora. After all, during this Soul Transfer, they hadn’t even considered the feelings of weaker beings from lesser worlds.

If it hadn’t been for Sonia helping Roger get here, Amanda’s fate would have been sealed.

Cause and effect.

However, if Roger openly named his price, while both sides could still reach an agreement, Jora would likely end up harboring resentment towards him.

More importantly, Roger wasn’t even sure what exactly he wanted right now. It was better to play the family sentiment card, using Dora as leverage.

Reluctantly showing his willingness to help while claiming limited strength—this way, standing on the same side, Jora would naturally contribute both manpower and effort.

And in the end, she’d even have to thank him!

"Not to brag, but my explosive power is particularly strong, though my stamina is sorely lacking."

"When fighting against a Fifth Tier opponent, if the timing is right, at most I can land one or two hits."

"After that, I’d be completely powerless to retaliate."

Roger smiled faintly, his gaze full of trust.

"It seems you’re right. This has already become more than just your problem. All of us will be drawn into this. And earlier, I offended Heyman while trying to save Dora."

"Knowing his character, there’s no way he’ll let me off the hook."

Images of Heyman’s furious face flashed through Roger’s mind. "Not just letting me off the hook," Roger thought, "That guy probably wants to grind my bones to dust."

"If I risk my life and give you an opening, maybe we can ambush and kill Heyman first. With him gone, you’d stand a much better chance against the patrolman."

Roger analyzed earnestly.

"Impossible. We wouldn’t succeed." Jora shook her head.

"You don’t understand Heyman’s power. A simple burst of strength won’t completely kill him. At most, it’ll leave him gravely injured. If you lack the stamina to keep him occupied afterwards, then this plan is meaningless."

Jora gazed into the distance. The world was painted in pure white, as if they were the only two people left in it.

In this war, high-level combat strength was the key. Everything else was just a matter of time and erosion—lesser Transcendents only affected the ebb and flow of forces and the speed of the spreading chaos.

But the ultimate outcome would be determined by only a handful of individuals.

"Your current strength is insufficient, but that doesn’t mean it will always be."

Jora retracted her gaze. "As long as we can evade their pursuit, we can accumulate strength in secret and wait for the right moment."

As she spoke, a complex light flashed in her eyes, for this meant that Jora would have to abandon the other Rebels.

To save herself.

She turned to Roger. "If you can reach the Fifth Tier, given the potential you’ve shown, you’ll undoubtedly play a crucial role in the final battle."

"The faster you ascend, the better our odds."

"The fewer deaths there will be."

"In some sense, the fate of this world is already tied to yours."

"What is Heyman’s goal? Or rather, what does this so-called Dragon Court want?" Roger asked.

"To be honest, I don’t know. There are many legends about the Dragon Court’s power. Heyman has used the council’s unified management to tightly restrict the territories and borders of various nations."

"Council members are forbidden from infighting. At first, I thought his intentions were good, since this at least prevented wars among mortals."

"It brought a long-lost peace to this chaotic world."

"But as his power grew stronger, things took a different turn. The intensified external conflicts couldn’t be resolved and instead turned inwards, with common people bearing the brunt of it."

"In reality, conflicts among Transcendents are confined to small circles. Usually, the victor easily annexes the loser’s territory."

"In this process, while Royal Family members are implicated, common folk barely notice. But under Heyman’s governance, class divisions solidified. The Royal Family remained the Royal Family forever."

"No matter what he did, no matter how many years passed, as long as the Guardians supported him, ordinary people had no room to resist."

"The world appeared peaceful, but in the shadows, slaughter was everywhere."

"Even worse, the power of the Giant Dragons stagnated. Aside from us, this world no longer produces powerful Transcendents."

"The entire world has become like a lake where the water no longer flows, trapped within this sealed fortress, caught in a death spiral."

"That’s when I realized—the Dragon Court isn’t seeking a prosperous world. It seems instead... like they want to harvest all life here."

Roger fell into thought. He didn’t have much information, but from all the clues, it seemed that what Heyman and the Dragon Court aimed for wasn’t the complete destruction of this world.

But rather the gradual erasure of its Transcendents.

A chill ran through his heart as Roger suddenly connected it to the myths of another world he once knew.

Now that he thought about it, the characters and monsters from those myths might have truly existed, only to abruptly vanish at a certain pivotal moment.

Much like what Erode was experiencing now.

If his hypothesis was correct, then years from now, would the Giant Dragons of this world all be eradicated? Without Transcendent interference, would the world transition back to normalcy?

Would it then follow the trajectory of his past world, leading to a technological boom and ushering in a new era?

An era of technology. An era bereft of magic.

Wait... could that other world also have been tampered with by some external force?

Shadow Fragments—the Shadow World.

Could the collapse of past Transcendents mean that the current world is merely a regrowth from the ruins of the old?

Perhaps this explained why that world seemed so distorted—like an ugly patchwork abomination.

Roger quickly linked this to various mythical events, the existence of the Gods, the prosperous glory of the past, and the reality where powerful Transcendents were limited to the few or divine beings.

When everything reached its zenith, it would inevitably lead to the Twilight of the Gods...

Roger didn’t know if his speculation was correct, but at this moment, he could no longer dismiss the events in Erode as mere coincidence.

A revival of Transcendents in that other world wasn’t far off.

The cleansing might come again.

"Follow me."

Jora interrupted Roger’s train of thought. "We need to find a way to get you to the Fifth Tier as quickly as possible!"
