Chapter 936: Chapter 699: Speak Properly, I’m a Decent Person
"What do you want to do?"
Amanda nervously wrapped her arms around Roger.
Roger was also a bit surprised. Although his ambush had disrupted Heyman’s plans, it didn’t mean Jora wouldn’t be suspicious of him because of it.
In truth, all Roger could do was deploy a few smoke bombs, stall for time as much as possible, and try to look for an opportunity.
At least the items he had just offered Sonia—if they had sought them out themselves—it would have cost them significant time.
"I hope we can talk, just the two of us."
Jora’s gaze burned fiercely, and Roger couldn’t discern what emotions she was hiding within.
"Alright."
Roger nodded and agreed. He discreetly pinched Amanda’s fingers, giving her a meaningful look, then followed Jora out of the palace.
No one noticed the slight dimming of the shadow trailing behind Roger as they left the palace.
Jora said nothing along the way but led Roger up the stairs, higher and higher, until they reached the highest point of the valley.
From here, you could see distant ice peaks through the defenses. After a long while, Jora finally turned to look at Roger, "What do you want?"
"Hmm..."
Roger’s expression was blank, but before he could answer, Jora continued, "I’ve found myself in deep trouble, and I need your help."
"As long as you’re willing to help, I can agree to any condition you set."
"Any condition..." Such words easily lead to overthinking.
Roger felt it was strange—how could Heyman’s claims not have raised even the slightest suspicion in Jora?
Or was it that she was merely testing me?
No, that’s not it.
Suddenly, Roger understood something.
This time, his disguise and ambush, though clumsy, had accidentally breached Jora’s defenses.
According to her, prior to this, she had been ambushed once before by Heyman and that cloaked figure.
Although she narrowly escaped, facing a second ambush severely shifted her mindset.
When one’s enemy repeatedly tries to kill them, anyone would develop an acute sense of crisis, like a thorn in their side.
Subconsciously, she might have already dismissed all of Heyman’s previous claims, believing them to be lies designed to disrupt her resolve.
Even if she previously held doubts, the sudden change likely solidified Jora’s convictions.
If everything was true, why would he ambush me? Yes, it must be because I found Dora, and he realizes his lies have been exposed.
If he doesn’t take action now, there won’t be another opportunity, so he invented these lies.
This was Jora’s genuine state of mind at this moment.
Roger had disguised himself as the cloaked figure to ambush Jora, initially just to create chaos. But he hadn’t expected Jora to become a frightened bird, more aggressive because of the ambush.
This, in turn, prompted her to actively seek him out for help.
Thinking about it from her perspective, it wasn’t too difficult to understand.
The scales of combat had tipped; the enemy sought to kill her. At this point, even if Jora wanted to surrender, the emotional barrier had already been forged—it was practically impossible.
Her only thought now was to restore balance to the scales.
And Roger, standing before her, was her best option.
Having figured this out, Roger felt more assured.
"You know about my relationship with Dora..." Roger rubbed his hands, noticing a flicker of change near Jora’s eyes.
"You..."
"I am Dora’s sister. You want me to... call you..."
Jora trembled with fury, her mind flashing back to those indelible days and nights. Roger’s remark instinctively led her to associate it with certain images.
But faced with a choice between the threat of death and compromising her dignity, her anger surged. Jora wished she could strike down the man before her.
"Forget it. Pretend it’s like being stabbed with a knife... then having it sawed open repeatedly over the wound. Close your eyes, open them again, and it’s all over."
Jora forced herself to suppress her rage, trying to reassure herself.
"If I can’t even keep my life, what right do I have to talk about dignity?"
"Besides, everything that’s happened to me before is etched into memory. What’s left between us is only physical contact; the psychological humiliation I’m meant to endure has already dulled."
These thoughts flashed through her mind in an instant. Thinking about this made Jora feel more resigned.
"Alright, I agree!"
"As long as you’re willing to help me, I am yours!"
"But I have one condition: our relationship is limited to a period of time. Once it’s over, you will be you, I will be me."
"We will remain strangers to each other, and you should harbor no thoughts otherwise."
"Additionally..."
Jora’s voice trembled.
"This must be kept secret from Dora. She is my sister, and although her consciousness has been damaged, leaving her willing to obey your every request..."
"We... We cannot be together..."
"Together..."
Jora opened her mouth, trying several times but failing to utter that word.
"This is my bottom line!"
She spoke sternly.
At this moment, Jora’s heart was filled with humiliation, yet for the sake of survival, she had no choice but to compromise.
Silence...
Prolonged silence.
Jora raised her head to see a dumbfounded expression.
Roger’s eye twitched slightly.
"What did you say? Yours? Mine? All this nonsense?"
"What I meant to say is, you are Dora’s sister. Even though we’ve had misunderstandings and conflicts between us, I still wish for Dora’s happiness."
"So, if there’s something I can help you with, I definitely will!"
Roger struck a pose of righteousness.
