Chapter 907: Chapter 684: Mutation_2

"My current identity only allows you to ride on my back."

This kind of thing gets easier the second time. Besides, even though Roger knew Sonia had transformed into this, facing a unicorn didn’t provoke any peculiar or inappropriate thoughts on his end.

Roger confidently jumped onto Sonia’s back, and in the next instant, the scenery before him streaked by in a blur. Surprisingly, Sonia’s speed at this moment was utterly astonishing.

Dashing across the desert, she left no trace behind—not a single mark. Even as Chachi desperately increased his pace, he could only eat dust from Sonia’s flanks behind her.

Time flew by. The trio pressed forward at full speed, quickly leaving the desert, crossing mountains, and navigating broad valleys. The scenery around them grew increasingly vast.

Until a magnificent giant city appeared before their eyes.

"The mountain base merges with the body of the city, and the domed Sky City overlooks and monitors everything within the urban area."

"If we want to get close to the mountain range below the solitary peak, we must first enter the city."

Chachi reminded them.

While speaking, he curiously examined Sonia, "Mr. Geralt, the bloodline concentration of this mount is almost comparable to that of an ordinary giant dragon."

"Truly remarkable. It might evolve at any moment."

As he said this, he suddenly seemed to recall something.

"If this is a covert operation, there’s something I need to remind you." Chachi pointed at Sonia.

"The city doesn’t restrict entry or exit, but mounts and pets are subject to slight regulation."

As he spoke, he pulled out a gemstone that radiated a pale green light, surrounded by a shell of silvery metal.

"What is this?"

"A kind of restraint."

Chachi gently tapped the gemstone, causing a faint glimmer to flash. Instantly, the metal surrounding the gemstone stretched to both sides, forming a bizarrely shaped cage within moments.

"This thing?" Roger briefly examined it and immediately likened it to the bridle used on horses in another world.

Once fitted with this, even the maddest creatures couldn’t open their mouths to bite anyone.

It was clearly an alchemy artifact, with the metal portion able to auto-adapt while the core gemstone provided energy.

Roger casually inspected it and quickly grasped its workings. He didn’t say much, instead casually glancing over at Sonia.

"This is the imperial capital; the regulations here are stricter than in other places. To avoid unnecessary trouble..."

Roger nodded in agreement, but before he could say anything, an irate voice erupted in his mind, "Damn it!"

"What are you thinking?!"

"I’m not your mount! We’re partners!"

"You can ride me, but I’ll absolutely never tolerate being bridled!"

Roger’s face darkened. Had Sonia not been in unicorn form, her words would have been undeniably ambiguous to anyone overhearing.

Roger chuckled and casually tossed the gemstone back to Chachi, who hesitated for a moment but said nothing else.

"Let’s go; we’re heading into the city."

Roger waved his hand.

The imperial capital sprawled across an area exceeding tens of kilometers. In this era of technological backwardness, such a city was genuinely astonishing to behold.

Entering the city was uneventful. As a lord, Chachi possessed a degree of privilege. Surprisingly to Roger, Sonia, despite her vocal protests, decided to voluntarily don the apparatus just before they entered the city...

Compared to the royal city governed by Chachi, both in size and opulence, the imperial capital was in a league of its own.

The city encapsulated over a dozen distinctive architectural styles, yet their seamless integration avoided any sense of disorder.

Apart from ordinary civilians, powerful transcendents were also everywhere.

Due to inherent rules and the world’s energy level, even transcendents of the same rank saw their destructive power significantly diminished here, while the growth of ordinary people had natural limits.

Giant dragons were the true rulers of this world.

Humans were merely vassals.

Roger naturally wasn’t going to squander time strolling through the city’s bustling streets. They took a long detour, steering clear of the busy areas and heading toward the city’s eastern outskirts.

Moving onward led to rolling mountain ranges. Upon reaching this point, Roger finally understood why Chachi hadn’t taken him to approach the solitary peak from the other direction.

Because on the far side of the mountain ranges lay entirely distorted spatial fissures, rendering normal passage impossible. Any creature attempting to enter would instantly be torn apart and consumed by the distortions.

"This is it; I can only take you as far as here."

Chachi looked somewhat embarrassed, avoiding eye contact with Roger.

Roger nodded, about to say something when his expression abruptly changed. Without time to dismiss Chachi, he swiftly opened his notification panel.

"Assimilation complete!"

"Hunter’s Cabin total level reached twenty, training base reached level three, High Mountain Trial progress at 3/5, minimum requirements met, hidden condition triggered!"

Roger held his breath, a flicker of ecstasy flashing in his eyes.

"It’s done!"

Although he had only fused two Sword Seals, the third had already been generated—it merely remained untrained by him. For the Hunter’s Cabin, this was akin to possessing the ability.

Roger counted himself lucky; the requirements were highly stringent, and he had no idea what transformations lay ahead following the assimilation.

Focusing intensely, he was about to proceed further when a violent force suddenly erupted from the surrounding spatial fissures.

Thump!

Without giving Roger a moment to react, the immense force struck him squarely.

Faced with the sudden assault, Roger advanced instead of retreating, as Sonia lay weakened behind him.

Yet in that instant Sonia’s puzzled voice echoed in his mind, "What’s happening?"

Roger looked toward the source of the voice; there was no trace of violent energy near Sonia—everything seemed calm. But just as he began to doubt his senses, distant tremors rapidly intensified.

"You... both..."

Roger realized that not only Sonia but Chachi also seemed oblivious to the disturbance.

Soon, however, the spatial tremors triggered a chain reaction. Roger’s body stiffened slightly as a familiar sensation surged forth.

"This... this is!"

"It’s the force encountered during teleportation!"

"It’s originating from..."

The intersecting fissures converged, forming a grotesque grinning face that appeared to mock Roger.

You cannot escape!

Roger’s body felt seized; his mind went blank as realization dawned on him.

Breaking through the world barrier by traversing dimensions, alongside...

The rise of Hunter’s Cabin!

This transformation far exceeded the previous instance; evidently, the latter carried greater weight.

Roger recalled Sword Master Cold Crow’s prior warnings, "Perhaps you’re not strong enough yet, unworthy of being sensed by your opposition."

"Is the time now?"

Roger pushed himself to the limit, but his body and spirit seemed completely disconnected. At that moment, from the massive gash-like spatial fissure, a pale hand emerged.

Followed by a second.

The fissure widened as some entity appeared to squeeze its way out and one of the hands reached forward, fingers splayed, grasping for Roger!

"Move!"

"Move, damn it!"

Shouting inwardly, Roger strained his mental willpower, but nothing changed. All he could do was watch helplessly as the hand drew close and clenched.

No transcendent ability was needed—Roger had a visceral premonition that getting seized by that hand would spell a disastrous fate.

"Body... spirit!"

In the critical moment of life or death, a flash of enlightenment struck Roger, making him realize.

"Body... yes... this isn’t my real body; it’s merely a vessel enabling me to function in this world..."

"What truly belongs to me is my consciousness, my soul!"

"It’s the Hunter’s Cabin that descended alongside me into this world!"

Seeing the truth at last, Roger no longer fixated on controlling his physical form. His eyes gleamed brightly in the next instant as his entire consciousness surged outward.

Simultaneously, a dazzling radiance descended—Alder Sword Seal shattered the void, narrowly missing the massive hand as it skimmed by Roger.

Crack, crack, crack!

The bizarre bindings vanished, and Roger sensed his body regaining its full control. He shifted instantly, readying to counterattack.

Yet at that moment, he realized everything around him had returned to normal.

"What just happened?"

The exhaustion pressing down on Roger’s spirit confirmed that the ordeal had been far from illusionary.

Just as he tried to steady his emotions, a golden streak flashed across the sky. When the brilliance faded, a burly figure appeared before Roger.

Chachi’s eyes widened in shock.

"Speaker... Speaker, my lord!"
