Chapter 906: Chapter 684: Mutation
Uradir Plain.
This place possesses the most fertile land in the entire world, and atop the plain rises a majestic city.
In a world where productivity is so underdeveloped, it is impossible to construct such a grand city relying solely on ordinary humans without the power of the Transcendents.
The surrounding terrain is vast and open, with accessible routes stretching in all directions. Only to the east of the city stands a solitary peak piercing the clouds.
In all other directions, there is no perilous terrain to rely on.
Yet for a city named after the entire world, it requires no extra defenses.
No towers, no castles. As the center of the world and a convergence of the continent’s wealth, the city has no fear of being attacked by any force.
For above the empire lies Sky City, a powerful and impregnable fortress constructed by the Tuge Family.
Compared to the sprawling city on the ground, Sky City hidden amidst the clouds is much smaller, yet the mere reputation of the Tuge Family is enough to shield the vast empire.
At this moment, passing through sparse clouds, Sky City offers a view of the solitary peak piercing through the mist.
That peak is none other than the legendary Serlon Peak.
The mountaintop is shrouded in darkness, making it stand out amidst the clouds. Giant dragons occasionally circle around the peak.
Amidst the blade-like summit lies a descending passage, where Transcendents draped in black robes adorned with golden symbols enter and exit.
The hour reaches noon. Sunlight cuts through the clouds, illuminating Sky City and the summit of Serlon Peak. Suddenly, a golden ray shoots out from Sky City.
The golden radiance spreads across the air, forming a wide road. The sound of hooves echoes as a chariot races toward the summit of Serlon Peak.
Feeling the light pass over them, the dragons circling the mountaintop all stop and hover mid-air, lowering their heads.
A middle-aged man with a handsome face and clad in a golden robe descends from the chariot.
"Lord Heyman." Someone hurries forward.
The man addressed as Heyman emanates an aura of unyielding authority. His golden pupils sweep across the space, and no one dares to meet his gaze. He says nothing more and proceeds down into the cavern.
After traversing several barriers, the space suddenly opens up, dispelling any notion of a typical cave. The chilling winds give the impression of being atop the firmament.
Surrounding the scene are massive stone pillars, and suspended in the air at the center is a slender giant dragon pierced by thick iron chains.
The dragon’s entire body gleams with a pale golden hue, its edges shimmering faintly. Yet as the chains emit an overwhelming radiance, they form dense runes that embed themselves into the dragon’s surface.
"My sister."
"This is all for your own good, you must trust me."
Gold light flashes in the man’s eyes as he spreads his hands, unleashing countless beams onto the surrounding stone pillars. At the same time, the chains ensnaring the dragon twist and writhe like living creatures.
Golden dragon blood drips to the ground, yet the suspended dragon makes no sound at all.
"Why won’t you speak?"
"You used to love spending time with me when we were children, but as we grew older, we’ve only drifted further apart."
Drip, drip.
Aside from the man’s soliloquy, only the sound of blood dripping could be heard.
"I am a Supervisor, and I have a mission that I must fulfill. As my only relative, you should resolutely stand by my side."
"Do you understand me?"
"Do you understand the sacrifices I have made for this world?"
Heyman continues speaking to himself but receives no response. Time seems to drag on, and finally, he appears somewhat weary, clenching his fist in frustration.
"You’re always so stubborn. After all these years, you’ve managed to escape again and again, but I must tell you—this is the last time."
"I hope you can change your mind and abandon those unrealistic pursuits."
Heyman turns and walks away, "You are my only remaining family; don’t make me discard the last sliver of emotion I have left."
"I’ll return after the inspection is over."
"Don’t disappoint me."
The voice fades into the distance, leaving the space in deathly silence.
After an indeterminate amount of time, the bound dragon slowly opens its eyes.
Its gaze narrows faintly, cautiously concealing its fear.
If Heyman were still present, the mere fluctuation in the dragon’s expression would reveal that the soul within this creature had been replaced.
The dragon struggled slightly, but within moments, the massive chains tightened around it. Golden blood splattered as the dragon endured the physical pain, yet its eyes betrayed a hint of concern.
"Be careful, Roger. My soul has already been swapped out with someone else’s."
...
Amid a desolate desert, the wind and sand swirled as three figures appeared out of thin air.
"We’re now not far from the imperial capital, Erode."
Chachi restrained the energy around him.
The world was vast in scale, and Chachi’s territory was located at the far edges. Setting out directly at noon and passing through several teleportations had consumed a significant amount of energy before reaching the vicinity of the capital.
"Although Serlon Peak lies to the east of Erode Royal City, its true entrance can only be accessed through Sky City above the capital."
"The mountaintop has been sealed off. While it appears to belong to the same world, the upper half of the peak was not naturally formed."
"Some say it is part of Heyman Tuge’s domain."
Chachi’s news was anything but pleasant, but Roger decided to go investigate regardless.
Chachi transformed into a dragon. Roger hesitated for a moment, then heard Sonia’s voice: "Get on."
