Chapter 878: Chapter 670 Hillrenes’s Transaction_2

"Of course, that was only during those initial years of peace."

"It didn’t take long for people to discover loopholes in the rules. They were no longer satisfied with equitable exchanges. I should’ve mentioned earlier, the foundation of this special bond isn’t the strength or weakness of power."

"It’s the compatibility between bloodlines."

"This is almost impossible to explain. Sometimes, two Transcendents seem to have no connection between their bloodlines, yet the level of compatibility is incredibly high."

"If one side’s strength dominates during the exchange, the weaker party can very easily become influenced or even controlled."

Roger’s face showed a hint of understanding.

Exploitation is everywhere.

"Some special Transcendents, while maintaining their physical forms, can forcibly suppress the consciousness of their substitute and completely take over the other’s body!"

"In doing so, not only can they gain a significant degree of self-preservation in other worlds, but the time they remain there is almost unrestricted."

"Even their lifespan isn’t significantly consumed."

"It truly is a perfect scheme."

Hillrenes chuckled.

"But for the weaker party, it’s a disaster."

Roger added.

Recalling Amanda’s reaction, Roger began to form a hypothesis in his mind.

"What can I do to expel their consciousness without harming the original owner’s awareness?"

"Also... exactly how much damage does the suppression you mentioned cause?"

Roger was deeply concerned. He feared that even if the strange being’s consciousness was expelled, Amanda might still suffer irreversible damage.

The different methods of Advent sounded complicated, but if imagined as a game, the process became easier to comprehend.

Different worlds were akin to different game servers; in the setup, a player’s character reaching the server’s maximum level capacity made further growth exceedingly difficult.

To level up, one had to venture into other servers to "gild themselves."

Physical Advent was like a max-level account being conditionally downgraded.

Consciousness Advent was akin to preserving a portion of game experience while re-leveling, harvesting at a higher level later.

This process seemed safer, but variables were countless.

A typical Dragonborn exchange resembled high-level players on two servers swapping accounts for gameplay variety.

But the predatory takeover stood out as the most advantageous, directly inheriting a high-level account on another server while ensuring personal safety.

Compared to other situations, it was an explosive start—no rejection by rules, no concern of resistance from the other party.

Most importantly, it was safe.

"Let me finish speaking." Hillrenes did not directly answer Roger’s questions.

"Although I haven’t seen the girl, based on my prior observations, her troubles are likely far from simple."

Roger furrowed his brows, the expression on his face gradually growing grave.

"As I’ve said, her bloodline is exceptionally pure, which means that at a certain stage in her growth, her body was transformed by specific World Fragments."

Hillrenes spread her hands.

"This world has already become chaotic, and the chaos will only intensify."

As she spoke these words, Roger felt that Hillrenes seemed to be hinting at something.

"People like her are what we call seeds."

"When the power grows to a certain stage, she herself becomes like a beacon in the darkness, drawing countless gazes upon her. Picture it: in a dark forest, she’s the only lamb, surrounded by countless wolves lurking in the shadows."

"When did this start?" Roger asked abruptly.

"From the beginning."

Hillrenes replied expressionlessly.

"From the day she was transformed, even if the power within her hadn’t awakened, she had already become everyone’s target."

"It’s just that the lamb hadn’t grown yet. No matter how hungry the wolves were, they’d choose to wait patiently."

"She’s been a target from the very beginning."

"During her growth, those special insights into power didn’t appear out of thin air, but were surrounded by significant malice all along."

"Even if that power hadn’t descended, the probing from other worlds greatly accelerated her development."

Roger couldn’t help but inhale sharply.

He could imagine the scene: countless malicious gazes hidden in the darkness, perhaps not communicating with each other, but sharing the common goal of wanting Amanda to grow quickly.

Grow to a point where they were satisfied.

Then harvest her.

"So, what awaits her is an inevitable attack!"

Hillrenes nodded.

"What is their goal?"

Roger asked again.

"Perhaps it’s devouring, perhaps transformation—everyone’s motives differ. I can’t answer that question for you."

After saying this, Hillrenes abruptly fell silent.

"What do you need me to do?" Roger asked directly.

Hillrenes smiled faintly.

"Our deal still stands: retrieve my wings, and my promise remains unchanged."

"Additionally, regarding the girl’s predicament, I can offer necessary assistance."

"Help me first and then..."

Hillrenes decisively cut Roger off.

"That’s impossible. I need to ensure that you return alive at the very least."

Roger’s heart skipped slightly. He realized the matter Hillrenes mentioned was not without its risks.

"No matter the situation, Amanda is certainly in great danger. I want to rescue her as soon as possible and then..."

"No." Hillrenes shook her head firmly.

"That’s your problem, not mine."

She smiled, yet her eyes were cold.

This woman had lived for countless years, her heart likely reduced to calculations of gains and losses, devoid of personal sentiments.

Taking a deep breath, Roger calmed his agitated emotions. His immediate priority was to ensure Amanda’s safety.

He glanced at Hillrenes.

"At the very least, I need to know the specific issue she’s facing. Only then can we proceed with our discussions."

Roger’s expression remained calm; this was his final line.

Otherwise, time might be wasted, lives could be lost, and he might end up with nothing to show for it.

Whether it was power or information, Hillrenes far exceeded Roger. Considering multiple factors, he had no choice but to temporarily compromise.

But Fifth Tier or not—

As long as Amanda’s predicament could be perfectly resolved, Roger wouldn’t mind Hillrenes’s verbal dominance.

"That’s reasonable."

Hillrenes nodded.

"I’ll come to your castle as soon as I can."

She didn’t suggest that Roger bring Amanda here; she knew he wouldn’t agree even if she did.

Their mutual trust was too fragile.

Only by seeking mutual benefit could it barely be sustained.

The clouds dispersed; the massive dragon’s form vanished before Roger as he returned to Kaer Morhen.

He didn’t have to wait long before Hillrenes’s projection appeared again, by the suspension bridge at the foot of the mountain.

Oddly, Hillrenes seemed unwilling to take even a single step across the bridge.

Amanda remained comatose. To keep her in this state, Roger had exhausted every possible method.

Hillrenes’s pupils turned into pure silver-white. She examined Amanda thoroughly, only withdrawing her gaze after a long while.

"Good news: while this body hosts a single consciousness, the girl named Amanda has not been destroyed under suppression."

"She’s no longer here!"

Roger instantly understood Hillrenes’s meaning.

"She went to another world."

"Tell me how I can bring her back!"

Hillrenes chuckled softly.

"That’s not a simple question. I think now we should sit down and have a proper discussion."

"You give me the wings, and I’ll tell you how to find her. Also, if I’m right, she’s a special seed. This transformation might seem normal, but it certainly hides motives and secrets we don’t yet know."

"Young Demon Hunter."

"Your time is running out."
