Chapter 876: Chapter 669: I Have a Treasure to Show You_2

She seemed to enjoy the process, pacing back and forth, from one side of the room to the other, repeating this until she finally arrived at the window.

The curtains were stirred by the night wind, the silent breeze brushed against her face. Amanda’s eyelashes fluttered slightly, and at last, a faint smile broke across her face.

Then she closed her eyes, spread her arms, and pried open the crack of the window, allowing more wind to gush into the room.

In this moment, it was hard to tell whether she was basking in the serenity of the night or embracing the world itself.

If Roger were standing here, he would certainly notice the oddities in Amanda.

The same features, the same expressions, the familiar shell of her body. Yet, looking into her eyes, anyone close to Amanda would unflinchingly regard her as a stranger.

Centering herself, Amanda returned to the edge of the bed. She overlapped her hands into a peculiar gesture, a flash of brilliance shone in her eyes, but nothing happened.

Frowning slightly, Amanda sighed soundlessly.

She cycled through several gestures in succession, but the result remained unchanged.

She spread her hands open, interlaced her fingers, and then slowly separated them.

What followed was an eerie scene.

Though Amanda’s hands remained intertwined, a slight tremor stirred at the edges of her arms.

Gradually, two shadowy figures emerged.

They were two brand-new arms, seemingly insubstantial. Moments later, the newly formed limbs raised upwards and cast a fresh gesture.

At last, Amanda displayed a satisfied smile.

Her frame slightly quaked as she reverted to her natural state, stepping forward and instantly passing through the window to the outside.

Her whole figure seemed to meld with the night, like a weightless leaf drifting far along the wind.

She crossed the castle, traversed valleys, and even upon nearing the Mist Forest, no disturbances arose.

All remained hushed until she left Kaer Morhen’s bounds, appearing on a desolate highway near the forest’s perimeter.

Descending from mid-air, a hint of weariness flickered in Amanda’s expression as she frowned. It was at this moment that a row of headlights lit up the distant road.

The vehicle slowed gradually, and a bearded middle-aged man leaned out of the window, "Lovely lady, what happened? Did your car break down?"

The man’s eyes, shrouded in darkness, brazenly scanned Amanda.

"Do you need a hand?"

"At this hour, you’re unlikely to see any other cars pass through here."

He spread his palm wide, "This place is truly secluded. I could take you to the nearest town."

Feigning propriety, he raised his wrist, "Lame Jack’s shop should still be open. You can rest there, sip some coffee, maybe take a hot shower, and then..."

"Mm, then get some sound sleep."

"Tomorrow morning, I can bring someone up the mountain to haul your broken car."

As he spoke, he leaned almost entirely out of the window, "Where did the car break down? I should take a good look now, otherwise, tomorrow locating it might be troublesome."

Amanda maintained utter silence throughout, waiting till the man completed his speech before letting out a weary yawn.

"Let’s go. Take me away from here."

The man opened his mouth, swallowing the prearranged pleasantries. He eagerly unlocked the passenger-side door, "Hop in, ma’am, sit beside me."

"The back seats are crammed full of junk, and my companion is drunk, so..."

Under the man’s eager gaze, Amanda seated herself beside him.

Whether from excitement or pre-departure over-drinking, his face was reddened, and his breaths became labored.

Hands clutching the steering wheel nervously, his thoughts spiraled, "Is your car broken down nearby?"

"Do you have any companions left to pick up? Although the space in the back is tight, squeezing in two people might still be manageable..."

The man stumbled over his words.

"Just one. Let’s go."

Amanda impatiently waved her hand.

"Yes, ma’am!"

The man excitedly started the car, but at that very moment, a dark shadow descended swiftly from the sky.

Bang!

Like a mortar shell pounding the ground, a shallow crater formed not far in front of the car, and a tall dark silhouette straightened its back.

"Amanda..."

Roger spoke.

"Where are you going?"

"Hey!"

"Who are you?!"

The middle-aged driver’s ears buzzed, still disoriented by the sudden turn of events. Now interrupted unexpectedly, his temper flared.

"Get off my car!"

He tilted his head slightly towards Amanda, "This lady, is he your friend?"

Crack!

Tree roots as thick as a human leg formed stone spikes bursting from the ground. The car was effortlessly pierced through, and amid the driver’s scream, the vehicle was hoisted half a meter upward.

"Heavens!"

"This is a Transcendent event. Who are you people?!"

The middle-aged man shouted and struggled frantically to undo the seatbelt around him.

"Who are you?"

Roger’s tone grew heavy, locking his gaze onto Amanda’s eyes. In those familiar pupils, he found no trace of the usual tenderness—just an unsettling strangeness.

Roger drew his hands apart; the stone spikes expanded, tearing the car noisily. Throughout, Amanda remained silent. Just as Roger was about to act further...

A ghostly arm pressed lightly against Amanda’s skull.

"Don’t move!"

The seemingly insubstantial arm gently pushed downwards, its slender fingers easily piercing Amanda’s skin.

Even her skull caved slightly under the formidable force.

"Don’t force me to kill her. Let me leave."

"I will treat this body with care."

Amanda spoke definitively.

"I know you’re strong, but your speed cannot surpass my thoughts."

"Care to test it?"

Roger clenched his fists, the ground beneath his feet rippling with his fury.

"Who are you?"

"What is your goal?"

"I only wish to survive, that’s all."

"Now, let me go!"

Amanda’s voice turned cold.

For a moment, Roger found himself in a dilemma.

Though confidence in his strength was unwavering, certain concerns muddied rationality. Even with just a 1% chance of failure, Roger couldn’t afford the consequences.

"Fine."

Roger retreated half a step.

"But you must tell me, where is her consciousness?"

"I must ensure her safety, otherwise, I’d rather mourn her in the cemetery."

After a brief silence, "She isn’t here. That’s all I can tell you."

"This is an exchange—we replaced each other."

Roger felt his heart sink but barely had time to ask further questions when Amanda’s head spilled more blood.

"Step back, do as I say..."

Before she could finish, Amanda’s expression changed drastically, as a low, raspy middle-aged voice sounded near her ear.

"Lovely lady, the night is long, and I happen to have something very long for you to see."

"I promise you’ll be thoroughly satisfied!"

"Most importantly, there’s more than one of them..."

Amanda’s spirit faltered momentarily. Turning her head slightly, she then noticed a greasy face leaning towards her.

But swiftly, the slightly lecherous visage morphed in her view.

It transformed into the face of a breathtakingly beautiful woman, accompanied by nine fox tails enveloping them both.

Boom!

Flames surged skyward.

Ordinarily, such power wouldn’t harm Uma in the least, but curiously, hidden within the flames was something else entirely.

Uma’s expression shifted slightly, but soon, a familiar silhouette drew near. In an instant, Roger unleashed every method at his disposal.

But even so, Amanda only struggled briefly before completely losing consciousness.

The car was destroyed in the impact, and a drunken man lay unconscious near the edge of the woods.

Uma approached Roger, "Dear master, tell me—if you hadn’t interfered, might Amanda and I have ended up sharing a double bed at the motel?"

Uma had a triumphant air.

"What a pity indeed. Honestly, in such scenarios, don’t you harbor even the slightest anticipation?"

"If you dislike my little tricks earlier, I could use this current appearance with her instead..."

Roger had no patience for Uma’s nonsense, his mind meticulously combing through their conversation, unwilling to overlook even a single detail.

"This is an exchange..."

"Bodies... it might still be possible..."

A flawless visage surfaced in his mind. Roger knew that to resolve Amanda’s plight, he might need to seek out someone.
