Demon Hunter and His Cabin -
Chapter 355 - Chapter 355 Chapter 355 The Contract
Chapter 355: Chapter 355: The Contract Chapter 355: Chapter 355: The Contract “What delicious food, I never expected you to be such a master at cooking,” John’s wife licked the juice off her fingers.
“Try this.”
The old woman, with a smile, placed two small plates in front of them.
“There’s one thing you were indeed right about, I understand humans and master the art of cooking human flesh.”
The old woman pointed at the food on the plates, “I particularly enjoy cream-fried children’s liver with saffron sauce.”
“Oh yes, and fingers pickled in red wine vinegar until they’re golden brown and crispy.”
Ignoring the ashen faces of John and his wife, the old woman stretched out her bony finger and tapped the side of a wine glass.
The dry finger, like an iron rod, struck the glass, emitting a clear sound.
“Have a taste.”
“The delightful, freshly squeezed juice of a corpse.”
“To achieve this particular flavor, the body must have been buried for quite a while, with special attention to preserving it from decay and protecting it from the rats and bugs that burrow underground.”
“Ugh…”
John’s wife couldn’t suppress the overwhelming nausea any longer; she turned around and started vomiting frantically.
“What’s the matter? Did you eat too quickly?”
The old woman’s figure eerily appeared beside the woman, bringing the glass to her lips.
“Take a drink, just one sip and you’ll feel better.”
The liquid in the glass emitted a fragrance that filled the air, and under the faint light, it looked like a green gem. But recalling what the raw material for that liquid was, the woman still couldn’t hold back.
The food she had just eaten was spewed out again, coating the entire glass.
“Is it something I made that doesn’t taste good?”
The old woman’s voice turned cold.
“Come on, open your mouth.”
The woman looked at the glass filled with her own vomit, trembling legs wanting to stand up, but found she couldn’t control her own body at all.
“Open your mouth!”
With a cold snort that exploded like thunder beside her ear, the next moment, the woman’s jaw was forcibly pried open by an invisible force.
“Good, that’s being obedient.”
In John’s horrified gaze, the old woman poured the liquid from the cup directly into the woman’s mouth.
“Ugh… puh!”
The terror unfolding before him assaulted John’s senses, his stomach’s contents rising to his mouth, yet he forced them back down.
He took in several deep breaths, his eyes darting around, as if trying to distract himself with something else.
It was then he noticed the children who had been playing around had stopped, forming a circle, their eyes wide and fixed on the two of them.
“I seem to remember this child’s face, what was her name?”
“Jennifer or Jerys.”
“Right, and that boy.”
“So, we weren’t the first people to make a deal with this woman.”
“Wait a minute,” John suddenly realized something, a look of terror flashing in his eyes.
“If so many people had made deals with this woman before, where did they all go?”
“Ms. Greta, you should see the gift I’ve prepared for you.”
John tried to stand up, holding onto the edge of the table, but as the thought rose in his mind, he found his hands stuck to the table as though glued, unable to move any part of his body except his head.
“Ms. Greta…”
John’s eyes widened, “I may not have brought Jenny, but as per our agreement, I’ve brought others to compensate you.”
“Please give me a bit more time, next time, I’ll surely bring someone to your satisfaction.”
“Tell me, which child from the town do you fancy?”
“Boy or girl? Blonde or brunette?”
John trembled violently, his eyes glancing sideways, noticing that since his wife was force-fed a cup by the woman, her eyes had become dull, and she was mindlessly stuffing food into her belly.
“Daddy, Daddy, where are you?”
“Don’t leave me alone in the forest.”
A familiar voice came from the darkness far away, and John stiffly turned his head.
Gurgle, gurgle.
A small head rolled over like a ball.
Then a child in a blue floral dress staggered out of the bushes, having lost a shoe, and her tender white foot was scratched by tree branches.
In her right hand, she was holding a doll soaked in fresh blood.
“Jenny?!”
The head kept rolling until it reached John’s feet, the little girl’s face gazing up, her face looking strange with skin reddened and wrinkled as if scalded by boiling water.
The facial features were also not symmetrical, as if a melted mask had been fitted onto a ball.
“Ah… Ah!”
John screamed in terror, frantically trying to break free from the chair, to run far away, but no matter how hard he tried, his body seemed glued to the chair.
The old woman slowly walked up to John, she bent down, as if trying to pick up the girl’s head from the ground.
Her bony hand passed through the girl’s head, and the old woman tried several times, only to finally shake her head helplessly.
“Poor child, I can’t save you.”
“This Candy House can only take in children who have made a deal with me; since you were killed by wild beasts, your soul can only drift in the fields.”
“Bang!”
The old woman’s face grew incredibly grim, as she slammed the table with force, her sinister gaze fixed on John.
“Useless, you damned useless thing.”
“Look what you’ve done to your own child?”
She waved her hand, and in an instant, the food on the table turned into glittering gold and jewels, and in a plate before John, what were once translucent grapes changed into cat’s eye gems as large as Ruby.
“As per the deal, I was to grant you precious jewels, and now they are here.”
The old woman chuckled, her laugh sounding as if it came from the children in the crowd.
“Don’t you like jewels?”
“They all belong to you now!”
“Really, is what you said true?”
“Of course,” the old woman said with a smile.
“Go ahead, take as much as you want.”
She extended one of her skinny fingers.
“I only have one condition, you can’t take them with your hands, and you can’t put them in your pockets, every single jewel that you carry away must be swallowed into your stomach!”
“Swallow them?!”
John’s face turned pale, but looking at the table shimmering with jewels, he gritted his teeth and nodded.
“Okay!”
He then picked up a round Cat’s Eye Gem and swallowed it down with a gulp of liquid from the cup.
“Just a little, take just a little bit.”
John kept reminding himself, but with the first gem ingested, John’s expression changed completely.
He appeared to lose all reason and swallowed the gems crazily, no longer considering their size, as long as he could swallow them.
His mouth was cut, and his esophagus also started bleeding, the more he ate the more excited he became.
Finally, the front of John’s shirt was soaked with fresh blood, and he came back to his senses from the frenzy.
“No more, I can’t eat any more!”
Staggering to his feet, John walked to his wife, clearly remembering that she had ingested far more than he had.
“Take her away, and I’ll make a fortune.”
Hoisting the woman over his shoulder, John left the dining table without looking back, with the children around making way for him, watching him disappear into the darkness with bloodied footsteps.
Meanwhile, the old woman standing next to the table sighed, “Stranger, do you also wish to make a deal with me?”
