Demon Hunter and His Cabin
Chapter 356 - Chapter 356 Chapter 356 No Candy in the Candy House

Chapter 356: Chapter 356 No Candy in the Candy House Chapter 356: Chapter 356 No Candy in the Candy House Roger struggled out of the ropes around him and jumped down from the cart, the rich aroma of bread enveloping his nose. To be honest, even Roger felt a bit hungry.

“What kind of contract, let me hear it.”

Roger looked at the old woman’s pale, bloodless face and slowly said.

“I fancy children, only children.”

“Sign a contract with me, bring me the children I need, and I can give you wealth beyond measure.”

“How about that?”

Roger shrugged his shoulders.

“The terms sound good, but after seeing the plight of those two just now, I’m quite skeptical about this contract you speak of.”

“Don’t worry, stranger.”

“They broke the contract, naturally, they had to pay a small price. I have never hurt anyone from start to finish.”

“Have I?”

The old woman chuckled with a giggle.

If it were a child who made such a sound, it would make one think of cuteness, but coming from this old woman, it could only remind one of an old hen that can’t lay eggs.

“I’m not interested in so-called wealth. Do you have anything else you can offer me?”

Roger put on a thinking face.

“Right, don’t bring up tricks like food and beauty; I’m not interested in those either.”

Upon hearing Roger’s words, the old woman fell silent immediately.

“It seems you don’t have what I need here.”

Roger shrugged helplessly. “If that’s the case, I’ll have to leave.”

As he said this, he turned around and made as if to walk away.

“Greta, we can’t let him leave!”

Just then, a deep growl echoed through the room, and with a bang, the door was smashed to pieces. A dark figure moved with great speed across the dining table towards Roger.

“Hensel, stop!”

“He’s not the one we’re looking for.”

From the old woman’s mouth came a clear child’s voice.

“Don’t hurt him!”

A puff of smoke exploded, and the old woman disappeared on the spot. In her place stood a little girl with pigtails.

The girl had sky-blue eyes, and at the end of her pigtails was a pink bow.

Roger was slightly taken aback, shifting his body to the left to dodge the figure’s assault. Now he could clearly see the attacker.

It was not the monster he had envisioned, but a large black robe.

The upper part of the robe flipped open, revealing a small head.

It was a boy with chestnut hair, who was now glaring at Roger with large, fierce eyes.

“Greta, we can’t let him go, he will expose what’s here, and then no one will ever sign a contract with us again.”

The boy clearly didn’t want to let Roger go.

“But he’s different from the others; he hasn’t done anything bad,” Greta, the girl, reasoned.

“Who knows? Adults are all the same, just because he doesn’t do it today doesn’t mean he won’t in the future.”

Hensel scoffed coldly.

“So… there is no Witch after all?” Roger asked, looking amused at the two older children.

“What happened to the promised demon-slaying?”

“Things may not be as you imagine.” Then Roger briefly recounted what had happened.

After he finished speaking, he turned around and pushed his palm out.

“Igni”

Mighty flames engulfed a large tree not far away. As the flames rose, the tree thick enough to embrace soon caught fire.

After doing this, Roger faced the two children expressionlessly.

“All right, tell me, what’s really going on here?”

The girl called Greta waved her hand, and the dining table and the toys surrounding it disappeared, leaving only a house behind her and Hensel.

“My name is Greta, and this is my brother Hensel.”

“Many years ago, we were abandoned by our father in the forest, and in our hunger, we found a house made of bread and candy deep within the forest.”

“We were so hungry that we walked into the Candy House, enjoying the delicious candies and the soft bread,”

“But after we had our fill, a terrible woman appeared. She told us that by eating her food, we had agreed to her terms and entered into a contract with her,”

“This is a house of sin. We will forever be trapped here in the form of souls, as for our bodies…”

The girl sighed.

“From the moment we took the first bite of cake, they were no longer ours.”

“What we consumed was not bread, but our own flesh.”

Hearing this, Roger’s face also turned rather unsightly, the thought alone of tearing and biting into one’s own flesh, while issuing excited laughter, was enough to send a chill down anyone’s spine.

“What about that woman?”

Roger asked.

“She lives in the house and uses her wicked spells to control us, to lure children who stray into the forest. We would play with those children and then lead them to the Candy House.”

“After that, children would eat the candy and lose their lives.”

“Then one day, she suddenly left. However, every once in a while, she would return to harvest some flesh and souls.”

“Lately though, for some reason, she hasn’t come for a very long time.”

“So we decided to stop doing that woman’s bidding.”

Greta clenched her fists.

“There are just too many children in the world unloved by their parents, like us. They are better off coming here than living in pain.”

“To our Candy House.”

“Here, there’s no disease, poverty, hunger, or scolding.”

“Children only need to play happily and enjoy the tasty candies and pastries.”

“As for those evil adults!” Hensel’s voice suddenly rose, “They need to pay a price!”

“To pay for their greed!”

Hearing this, Roger came to understand the cause and effect.

“And the Witch, where did she go?”

Hensel shook his head, draped in an oversized cloak that made him look somewhat ridiculous.

“I remember she mentioned it once.”

Greta spoke, “If I remember correctly, that place should be called Sleeping Valley.”

“Sleeping Valley?”

Roger’s eyes lit up; the Mountain Woman had told him about that place.

Meanwhile, in the dark woods, John was dragging his wife, moving forward step by step.

“Huuh…”

John suddenly choked out a mouthful of blood. He felt the contents of his stomach solidifying, tugging at his insides, causing unbearable pain.

With one hand clutching his belly and the other releasing the grip on the woman’s clothes,

A fierce gleam appeared in his eyes as John drew the iron axe strapped to his lower back.

Under the moonlight, the sharp blade of the axe reflected a ghastly glow.

“The road is too long, and since you can’t make it out, you might as well leave the precious stones in your stomach to me,”

“Whatever I pull out of your stomach, I will cherish it as if it were my own child!”

The axe was raised high, then blood splattered.

Phut!

“Ah!”

The woman let out a pained scream, struggling desperately before death, as John covered her mouth with one hand and the axe in his other hand opened a large gash in her belly.

Shlurp.

He reached in and pulled out a bunch of things from the woman’s abdomen.

“My treasure, my treasure!”

After wiping the blood off, John held the things up high, and under the bright moonlight, he saw clearly what was in his hands.

A clump of dark, dull stones!

Joy frozen on his face, he looked down at his own stomach, hard and swollen.

“Phut!”

Blood spewed out, and just before collapsing, he saw in the darkness a dozen pairs of green eyes light up!
