Chapter 66: A Confrontation At The Luxury Store
The black van that pulled over caught everyone’s attention. Out of it came a few men who promptly marched over to Cassie and her mother and escorted them towards the van.
"Who...Who are you people?" Cassie asked as soon as they were inside the van. Her gaze pointed at the man who looked to be in his thirties sitting in front.
"My name is Gilbert and I work for young master Grayson." He announced.
Cassie’s heart skipped a beat. "The Grayson heir?"
Serena tapped her by the shoulder, "Who is that? I don’t understand."
Cassie smiled at her mother. "Don’t worry mother, we’re saved!" She exclaimed, holding Serena by both shoulders.
"We’re saved?" Her mother didn’t understand what was going on, but she could tell that someone other than Ethan was intervening to help them.
"Ladies are you ready to leave?" He asked.
Cassie nodded eagerly, "Are you taking me to Mr Grayson?"
Gilbert shook his head, "The young master is currently out of the country on a business trip, but he delegated me to take care of you in his absence, don’t worry, miss Crane, I’ll do everything in my power to help you." He announced.
Hearing those words made Cassie smirk, ’That foolish Brooke! She thought teaming up with that dog would stop me?’ she folded her arms and crossed her legs.
’You can keep Ethan, I don’t need him, not when I’ve caught an even bigger fish.’ she thought grinning from ear to ear.
Meanwhile down at the station, Sadie gave a statement in front of the reporters, that she was ready to drag Luther Crane to court. After which, she announced that Brooke would also be filing charges against the agency.
Before they could be bombarded with questions, the police intervened and helped them get into their awaiting taxi.
The taxi drove them a bit, before pulling over at a luxury store. The driver was surprised that two ordinary looking women would try to shop at the store, and sneered at them as he drove away.
Unbeknownst to him, that was the rendezvous point for Brooke and Thane.
Thane’s driver opened the door for Brooke, she steadily climbed into the backseat, and reclined fully into the soft seat.
"Miss Brooke, I’m going to head on home now." Sadie announced, not stepping into the car.
Brooke sharply turned her head, "Are you sure? We’re going out for lunch, aren’t you hungry?" She asked.
Sadie looked over Brooke’s shoulder at Thane, and started fake coughing. "I’m actually a bit sick-"
"Oh no. I could go with you and make some chicken soup." Brooke sharply inserted.
Sadie shook her head, "It’s nothing serious! I just need a night’s rest, you two please carry on." She said, frantically trying to pass the hint to Brooke.
It was obvious her boyfriend wanted to spend some time with her, but for some reason it was starting to seem like she herself didn’t understand that.
Thane inserted, "Brooke, you shouldn’t bother her too much, she’s had a rough day. And don’t worry, I’ll have her sent back and send some one to cook her healthy meals." He insisted, trying to calm her mind.
Brooke sighed in defeat. "Please take care Sadie." She said, then relaxed into her seat to take a quick nap.
Thane signalled the driver to leave, and passed Sadie a quick glance, before returning his full attention to an already sleeping Brooke.
Once the car was out of the compound, a staff member approached Sadie, "Miss, we’ve been instructed to guide you through your collection."
Sadie made a face, "Collection?"
"Please, follow me." The staff member said, then lead the way into the luxury store. Inside, Sadie felt out of place, as everyone had their gazes trained on her.
She knew she was underdressed for this sort of place, and wondered why the staff member even let her in.
"Hey miss, I think you have the wrong person-" she loudly whispered, reaching to tug on the woman’s sleeve, but was interrupted by two women, dressed in nothing but luxury wears.
"Aren’t you the one we just saw online? The Cassie wannabe?" The taller, blonde one asked, taking off her dark shades to stare Sadie down.
Sadie continued walking, but her friend held her by the shoulder, "Hey we’re speaking to you lady!" She pulled hard on Sadie’s shoulder, only for her to slap her touch off.
"You bitch!" The shorter, brunette spat out, staring at her hand in awe.
Her blonde friend stepped in, causing a scene, "We were just talking to you, so why did you need to hit her?"
Sadie scoffed, "Talking? I’m not interested in having a conversation with either of you. Please, just leave me alone." She said then turned to leave.
"Classless copycats are the worst! I can understand being a fan of Cassie, but don’t you think you’re going too far? And now things aren’t going your way, you make up stories." The blonde women taunted.
Her friend snorted, "What do you expect? She’s friends with that Brooke woman, birds of the same feathers-"
Sadie’s sharp glare sliced through her words, "I don’t owe any of you an explanation. If you think I’m making up stories then just sit back and shut up. You’ll see whose lying or not very soon."
But her words were met with laughter.
"What’s a talentless nobody like you going to do?" The blonde woman laughed.
Her friend chimed, "What are you even doing here? This isn’t a place for someone like you! Don’t tell me..." she looked behind her at the staff member who had gone to alert the manager. "You’re here for a job? What? Did acting not work out for you anymore?"
The other customers who were curious over the noise stole glances at the scene, pointing and murmuring.
"Where’s the manager? We can’t have such people working at this sort of place. It’ll bring the rep down." She said, raising her hand to call for the manger.
In ten seconds flat, the staff member who had led Sadie inside, alongside a mid forty year old woman marched to the scene.
"What seems to be the problem here?" The older woman asked, her attention naturally fell to the two expensively dressed women.
"Are you the guest we’ve been expecting?" the manager rubbed her palms, smiling from ear to ear. After hearing the amount deposited for said guest, the manager asked to be alerted immediately the guest arrived.
"Manager, the guest is-" the staff member tried to correct her error, but her excited gaze settled on Sadie and contorted into a frown.
"What are you doing here?! Who let this woman in?" The manager knew the regular faces who came to buy at their store. And this poorly dressed woman was not one of them.
So was the two young women, so she figured it had to be them.
Sadie responded, "I’m here for my collection-"
"Collection?! Don’t make me laugh!" The manager scowled.
The two women bursted out laughing, and so did some of the spectators. While some others simply minded their business and carried on with their shopping.
"Manager, this woman here is causing a nuisance! Get her out of our sight!" The blonde haired spat out.
Her friend seconded, "I didn’t come here to get humiliated by seeing this sort of person here."
The manager nodded and fiercely grabbed Sadie by the elbow. "I’m not going to repeat myself. Get out now-" she was saying, but her staff member swiftly peeled her grip off Sadie’s elbow and bowed apologetically to her.
"My earnest apologies ma’am! Please forgive our mistake!" The staff member apologized.
"Quin what are you-"
Quin, sharply looked over her shoulder, "Manager, this woman here is the special guest we were assigned to take care of!" She spat out.
The manager nearly didn’t believe it! "Quin you fool! What the hell are you saying? Don’t you have eyes? This woman cannot be the-"
But Quin ignored her and turned her attention to Sadie, who was more confused than anyone. "Please, forgive us for our misconduct. If you’d just follow me, I’ll show you to the collection."
Sadie still felt that the staff member had gotten the wrong person, and so did the manager and the other two women.
"There must be some mistake here." The manager refused to admit her fault. "Show me the message you received."
Quin turned to Sadie, "Please, just a moment of your time ma’am." She pleaded asking for permission. Sadie nodded, and Quin took out her phone and showed the message relayed from the head of the branch.
The manager quickly scanned through the message, and saw the picture attached to it, with the stern instruction to treat Sadie delicately.
Realizing her blunder, she immediately bowed her head, "I apologize ma’am! It was my mistake! Please, view your collection!" She announced in a loud voice, turning the tables.
Sadie blinked twice, wondering why these two women were bowing their heads to her like she were some rich young miss.
Everyone was still staring at her, but not with disgust, but rather with intrigue and wonder over who she could be.
