Chapter 63: Love At First Sight?

Brooke grunted, "It was nothing special, we hit it off after a blind date and started dating after a month." She lied, trying to give a casual and uninteresting answer so Sadie wouldn’t probe for more.

"So was it love at first sight?" She gasped at the thought.

In response, her mind flashed back to the time they properly met. She was under his bed, hiding out that he was her abusive husband...ex-husband.

If anything it was fear at first sight.

"Ah, not really. We both started talking and found out we had similar interests. That’s all." She replied.

Sadie twisted her lips, "How long have you two been together?"

"How long?" Brooke nervously echoed, scratching the side of her face. Barely over a month? Some weeks?

"We started dating after I resigned from the agency." She responded, not giving a clear answer.

"Oh! So he must’ve been the one to make you resign. Ahh!" Sadie slumped on the bed, her hand on her chest, "How romantic. Making your lover resign from her abusive workplace, that must be the dream of every nine to five employee."

Brooke chuckled, "And what about you? Any love on your end?" She carefully turned the conversation around.

"Me?" Sadie scoffed, "The only people I attract are scum." She grimaced.

Brooke playfully slapped her arm, "Hey, that’s not true." she turned to face her, "You’re too hard on yourself. It’s impressive as it is that you didn’t give up on your dreams."

Seeing Sadie try so hard to become an actress, despite being treated poorly in the agency was one of the reasons Brooke to a liking to her. It was as though Brooke saw herself in Sadie, or better yet she looked up to her.

’Unlike me, you didn’t once give up on your dream of becoming an actress. That’s remarkable.’ she thought, her gaze softened.

"It’s a shame though!" Brooke announced in a light hearted tone, "Any guy that passed up on dating you missed out on a lot. They’d have to be the unluckiest guy to walk the planet."

Sadie’s lips lifted into a slight grin at the thought of President Lucas who had approved her specially to act in his movie.

After saying her performance made him open a production company, she felt a certain kind of way about him. Unfortunately, with the scandal about to happen, she couldn’t phantom seeing him again.

Even if they did meet.

’There’s no way a man like him would even bat an eye at a girl like me.’ she inwardly convinced herself, dispelling the thought from her mind.

"Thank you Miss Brooke, for staying with me, it means a lot."

Brooke smiled back at her, enjoying the company. It almost felt as though Sadie was the younger sister and she was the older one with the instinct to protect her.

Cassie ran down the stairs, waving her phone over her head, an angry expression etched onto her face.

"Father! What the hell?!" She raised her voice the moment her eyes laid on Luther, about to leave for the office.

Luther pinched his temples, "And I was just out the door too." He turned around, a weary look in his eye, to meet his daughter’s fuming face.

"I assume you’ve seen the statement the agency put out-"

Cassie cut him off. "The statement you put out! How could you say it was Ethan who bought me the bag?!"

Her father sighed, if he had his way, he’d take his daughter’s phone away so she couldn’t find these things out.

"I simply stated it was our sponsor who gifted you the bag."

"But it wasn’t Ethan! It was the Grayson heir!" She argued in a loud tone.

"Lower your voice!" He looked here and there before speaking in a loud whisper. "The longer you stayed quiet about the patron of that bag the more the rumours will start circulating. Some threads are claiming you entertain some bigwigs, dragging your reputation through the mud. So, we released the statement that it was our number one sponsor congratulating you on winning the award." He explained.

Cassie frowned. "Then why couldn’t you say it was the heir?"

Luther inwardly face palmed. Wondering how his daughter was so brain dead.

"We are unaware of his intentions, he’s back in the country but he hasn’t made any major moves. He hasn’t even been to his own company since his return. If we’re not careful, we could fall into a trap."

"A trap? What trap?" Cassie didn’t understand what her father meant, but knew she hadn’t seen him that paranoid looking in a while.

"Besides, this way you won’t anger Ethan any further, and still keep the bag."

When she heard she would be able to keep the bag, Cassie grinned from ear to ear, and completely forgot about her anger.

"Oh right, where the hell is Sadie? She wasn’t at the office yesterday." Cassie pointed out.

Luther wanted to scold his daughter for still going to the agency in her condition. But suddenly remembered he hadn’t gotten a call from the loan sharks he paid to go rouse her up.

"I don’t know."

"That won’t do daddy. With Brooke gone, I need something to take my anger out on. Please, make sure she comes back, I just ordered in a new leash." She smiled.

Luther smiled back. "Of course dear, I’ll give you anything you ask for. But promise me, you’ll play with her in places the cameras can’t see. It’d be a pain if the media catches on."

Cassie rolled her eyes. "What cameras? That talentless bitch can’t ever step out of my shadow, let alone land herself a role. She’s more suited to being my obedient little dog. So please make sure you get her back soon. The pregnancy has been making me feel very irritated lately, and I need an outlet." She rubbed her palm over her shoulder.

"Don’t you want a healthy grandchild?" She pouted.

Her father ruffled her hair, "Alright. I’ll get her back today. I already made the arrangements, by now that woman must already be at the company begging for forgiveness." Luther licked his lower lip at the thought of all the ways he would punish Sadie for her acting out.

Little did he expect to be the one getting punished later that day!
