Chapter 62: How Did You Two Meet?
Chapter 62: How Did You Two Meet?
"Master Grayson I hope you’re happy with yourself, not only did you place your health at jeopardy, but you also made miss Brooke misunderstand the situation, once again." Gilbert sounded as he walked through the door to Thane’s bedroom. Where his employer was perched to his window, watching as the car carrying Brooke drove out of the compound.
*Cough*
He turned away once the red lights were out of sight completely, "I wanted to show her a good time, alone."
"It wasn’t like the driver was going to be on the date with you both." Gilbert pinched his temples and let out an exasperated sigh. "You’re still recuperating, you know you should be admitted. Driving around, physically and mentally straining yourself, if your mother heard about this she’d-"
At the mention of his mother, Thane’s eyes darkened, he pushed his hair back and sauntered over to the bed. He stretched out on it, and pulled the covers up to his shoulders.
"Master Grayson are you listening to me? You’re playing with your health!"
Thane sighed, "Yes Gilbert, I hear you loud and clear. But the situation today couldn’t be helped, and besides," he stared at the ceiling, picturing Brooke’s face, as she laughed at the cinema. The thought brought a smile to his lips. "I’m not the weak little boy who couldn’t afford to take a step out of his room. I’m stronger now, for her sake."
"And less rational too." Gilbert muttered under his breath, wondering what had happened to his cautious boss.
Meanwhile, Brooke couldn’t stand the anxious feeling in her chest as she laid on the sofa, staring at the ceiling in Sadie’s apartment.
’He acts nice to me, goes out of his way to show me a good time, but out of nowhere he immediately ghosts me and act like I don’t exist.’ she reflected on the date, and tried to make sense of it.
Brooke frowned, "If any girl gets treated that preciously, she’s bound to catch feelings..."
"Miss Brooke why are you sleeping on the couch?" Sadie asked, stepping outside of her room.
"Ah, I’m fine over here, you can take the bed." Brooke said, inviting a frown on Sadie’s face.
"What? After you and your boyfriend did so much for me, I couldn’t possibly make you suffer."
"Boyfriend?" Brooke sprang up into a sit up, she looked over her shoulder at Sadie to check if she was joking, but the woman had a dead serious look on her face.
’Well, that might be how we look like on the surface, but we’re just partners, partners.’ Brooke reminded herself in a bid to calm her beating heart.
"Oh? Am I wrong?" Sadie asked, strolling towards the door to the bathroom, intending to take a quick shower before sleeping.
Brooke gave it some thought before responding in a calm quiet voice, "No, you’re right." She figured that if Thane was so insistent on them getting married, it wouldn’t be far fetched to admit to him as her boyfriend.
Plus, it wasn’t like Thane was even around to find out about her little secret.
"See. It would be plain ungrateful to let you sleep on the couch, especially after you went out and got all those things I needed. And your boyfriend made me a meal too." She opened the door and said sternly on her way in, "Just take the bed miss Brooke..." her voice trailed off after she shut the door and turned on the showers.
Defeated, Brooke got into her wheelchair, thanking Thane and his team for making such a convenient model. But when she recalled Tara was part of that team, she cringed.
When Sadie returned to take a change of clothing, Brooke offered that they both share the bed. At first Sadie was hesitant, but Brooke kept insisting, and eventually got her to change and share the bed.
"So tell me, have you heard anything about your brother? How long has it been?" Brooke asked, looking at the ceiling.
"Almost three years," Sadie rolled onto her side so she was staring at Brooke. Looking at her upclose, she noticed just how beautiful she was.
Unlike back when she worked at the agency, with her hair always styled into a messy bun, dark circles and eyebags swallowing her eyes and her pale, malnourished skin. Brooke looked and sounded healthier and happier.
’Hmm, if she has such a rich husband, I wonder why she was ever working at that dreadful agency.
"Miss Brooke, if you don’t mind me asking, did you ever owe anyone in the past?"
Brooke shook her head. "Why?"
Sadie let out a frustrated sigh. "I don’t get it. You’re smart and beautiful, so why did you stay at the agency and endure everything." She wanted to add, the fact that she had a drop dead gorgeous and wealthy boyfriend, but decided to leave that part out.
"Ah..." her eyes darkened, as she reminisced her days at the agency.
Sadie noticed the swift change in mood and knew she had gone out of line. "I’m sorry, let’s not talk about that tonight." Her cheeks flushed in embarrassment.
She had always looked up to Brooke, she was a kind and strong woman who helped everyone at the agency. When the scandal with Cassie surfaced, Sadie alongside everyone at the company knew that Brooke was innocent.
Even now, she was still being helped by the kind woman from the office.
"Oh, I know. Why don’t you tell me about your boyfriend, Mr Grayson?" Sadie sprang up, and flickered her lashes at Brooke.
"W-What?" Brooke’s heart raced with excitement.
"How did you two meet? You two seem so close, like you’ve been together for a long time, you’re almost like a married couple." She teased, unaware of the major damage she was doing to Brooke.
Well, they were close to becoming a married couple, but the part about them being together for a long time seemed like a stretch.
"What’s there to tell?" Brooke rolled her eyes around the room, avoiding the excitement radiating off of Sadie.
"Oh come on. Finding men like him is like finding a needle in a haystack. So tell me, how did you two meet?"
