Chapter 46: Faking An Injury

The crazed fan lunged towards Brooke in a frenzied fit of rage, she raised her hand and brought it down to smack the back of Brooke’s head.

Thud

"Aaah!"

The woman’s jaw hung loosely, she shifted her gaze from her suspended hand, to Cassie’s body, stricken to the ground!

"H-How could you hit me?!" Cassie spat out, holding her cheek.

"Wait what? I didn’t hit you." The frightened woman looked at Cassie, quite certain that her palm never came in contact with her face.

So how come she had fallen on the floor?

"Hey! What are you doing?!" The leader of the fans grabbed her by the shoulder and pushed her away. "Why did you hurt her instead?!" She charged her rage towards the frightened fan.

Brooke stopped, looked over her shoulder, and shook her head, as Cassie started to cry into the arms of her fans.

The scared fan cried out, "I swear I didn’t hit you Cassie, I would never! Y-You’re my idol-"

But Cassie completely ignored her and turned her attention to Thane, who still hadn’t taken his arms off Brooke’s waist.

She said to him, "That crazy woman just now was about to attack you-ouch!" She tried standing up but her ’injured’ leg wouldn’t let her move.

Brooke didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. For someone hurt, she had gotten to the scene way too fast.

The president of pocket change immediately signalled his security and had the women sent out of the building. Lucas quickly arranged for an ambulance, but Cassie was against it.

"Don’t worry," she sniffled, "My driver is outside."

Her devastated fan begged in a loud voice as she was dragged out by the security, "Cassie! Please tell them! I didn’t hit you right?! Right?! This is all an accident, I’m not a crazy woman-"

But Cassie did not even look her way, faking a sweet smile she turned to Thane’s direction, her gaze on his hand which still rested on her sister’s waist.

"Please, if it wouldn’t be too much trouble, could you help me get to my car? As you can see I can’t walk very well." She suggested, still holding her cheek.

Thane turned to leave, still holding Brooke. Gilbert signalled the men to take her from the security and help her outside.

She frowned, but went with them nonetheless, not wanting to rub Thane the wrong way.

’After all, he just helped her out of kindness. But he sent me that designer bag. Because of my image, he doesn’t want to expose his interest in me, that’s why he has his security protecting me.’ she convinced herself, while being led outside hy Thane’s security.

Outside, the police cars were gone and the agency was swarming with reporters and even more fans, forming a larger crowd. They circled around Cassie, throwing all sorts of questions, but Thane’s bodyguards sharply escorted her to her car.

With their attention on Cassie, Thane and Brooke were able to slip away without getting noticed, into his awaiting car.

Once they were inside, Thane reclined into his seat and exhaled sharply.

"Young master! Do you need your med-"

Thane cut Gilbert off, "I’m fine, the flashes just disoriented me a bit."

Brooke had never seen Thane look so pale before, she broke away from his grip and shifted away, giving him room to breathe.

She also couldn’t shake off the nervousness she felt around him, especially not after seeing him for over a week, only for him to pop out unannounced.

The car drove away with reporters following after it until they could no longer catch up. Once they were far from the scene, Thane cleared his throat, intending to speak.

Brooke tucked her palms in her thighs, wondering what he would tell her, her racing heart was met with disappointment when he said...

"I made sure to hide you in my coat, no one saw us leave together." He assured her, "They were too fixated on Cassie."

"Oh," her tone dropped, "Thank you for doing that." She said, although she wouldn’t have minded them getting spotted together.

Maybe he doesn’t want that? Or am I overthinking this?’ she wanted to know what Thane had been up to the past few days and who he had been with, but she was scared if she was allowed to ask that.

Gilbert scolded from the front, "The second you saw the livestream you left the hangar and headed straight here, forgetting you could’ve placed Miss Brooke’s audition in jeopardy." He huffed, making Brooke’s heart flutter.

She peeked at Thane who quickly diverted his gaze to the window, pretending to look at something interesting.

Had he just landed? And came to see her first?

Gilbert went on."You didn’t even consider what would happen if people started to spread distasteful rumours about Miss Brooke. Isn’t that the last thing you’d want?" He sharply reminded him.

Brooke understood the sort of rumors Gilbert was talking about.

Considering Thane turned out to be one of the sponsors for the film, it would be detrimental to her career if they were spotted together.

The worse thing that could happen was her career ending just before she even got a chance to audition.

Thane didn’t say a word and kept his eyes pointed out the glass, lost in his thoughts. Brooke reached for his shoulder, to try and ask him what was wrong, but she decided against it and ended up looking in the other direction.

An awkward silence brewed between them.

Gilbert watched them through the rear view mirror and sighed.

’These two will be the death of me.’ he pinched his temples in hopelessness, as he recalled last night’s incident.

He never expected Thane to go against Mrs Grayson and return to the country, just to be with Brooke.

The assistant had a feeling that Thane’s brash actions would lead to complications in his brewing revenge plan.

And quickly.

As her driver maneuvered his way away from the press, Cassie couldn’t keep her thoughts straight. Her phone rang, stealing her attention briefly, it was her father calling.

"Cassie! What in the bloody hell is going on here?!" He shouted over the sound of his scampering staff.

Cassie ran her fingers frustratedly through her hair. "It’s that Brooke! It’s all her fault daddy!"

Luther groaned, "You idiot! Didn’t I tell you to stay put?! Why were you there?! Do you know how much of a mess you’ve-" His anger didn’t let him finish his statement.

Calming down he said to her, "Whatever you do, don’t come to the office, the press are swarming this area. What were you thinking telling everyone you rejected that role? That wasn’t meant to go public until before the movie release."

She tossed her shoes off and reclined into the chair. "Daddy, the press always follow me around, and I made sure to make Brooke look like a total bitch. So even if they end up saying anything about me, it’ll only be good things." She assured him.

Luther didn’t seem so sure, "Just be careful, and lay low until I sort this mess out." Luther said then disconnected the call.

Cassie groaned and tossed her phone aside. "Brooke you fucking magnet, what was a married woman clinging so tightly onto the Grayson heir for?" Her lips twisted into a wicked smile.

"I wonder what the press would say to that piece of information?" She thought aloud, her tone sinister.
