Chapter 320: 130. Where Secrets Reside
Fisher, clutching the reins tightly, galloped along the nighttime streets of Saint Nali. However, Princess Elizabeth’s carriage was not designed for such rapid running; it was essentially a heavy carriage designed for ceremonial purposes, so now the entire carriage shook tremendously as Fisher urged the horses to speed up.
Inside the carriage, the valuable porcelain and tea leaves were scattered everywhere, and Moli could no longer stay inside. She had no choice but to sit outside on the carriage alongside Fisher.
For now, the people from the Hidden Affairs Bureau were temporarily stopped by the Guard Army, so no one had caught up yet. Looking at Fisher, whose clothes were tattered showing his back that Moli had healed, he appeared quite destitute.
"Fisher, do you already know the location of the treasure? How come we...we are heading towards Klein Mountain?" Moli asked as she watched Fisher driving the carriage under the hazy moonlight.
Fisher did not answer immediately but reached into his pocket, pulling out a folded, crumpled paper airplane that had previously been soaked in water yet was still usable.
Without an envelope or similar materials at hand, Fisher carelessly wrote a place name with the broken half of a pen he carried,
"Nali Lake"
After jotting it down, he vigorously threw the paper airplane, discarding the pen by the roadside and watching it wobble out of sight into the horizon. He then explained to Moli,
"Forty-five years ago, early in March, that was the fortieth birthday of Gedelin IX, the current King of Nali, a vigorous monarch during a booming period, and the kingdom was flourishing, emerging along the coast of the Western Continent."
"At the King’s twenty-five-year-old birthday banquet, his close friend and most trusted aide, Captain Blake, presented him with a unique grand gift."
Fisher lightly tapped the reins while recounting the history he had read about to Moli, a member of the Whale-man Species, mainly to clear her historical blind spots,
"Nali, centuries ago, had neared the brink of extinction. The neighboring Schwali Empire, with its unrivaled Sun Knights, advanced westward, conquering Nali’s towns one by one, and ultimately even Saint Nali you’re currently standing on fell, and the Golden Palace could not escape."
"Gedelin V, the King at the time, fled in panic without even taking his wife and son, obviously unable to bring along various treasures and books from Nali. Schwali’s knights would burn Nali’s books and take any valuables every place they passed, thus, for centuries, the treasures within Nali had been scattered around the Western Continent, never returning to their homeland."
"Before the King’s twenty-fifth birthday, Captain Blake had been quietly using his wealth to purchase and collect Nali’s treasures and books scattered around the world and gifted them all to Gedelin IX on his fortieth birthday. The king was overjoyed, breaking protocol to grant Blake free access to Nali Lake, a private Royal Estate, and even wanted him to marry his youngest sister."
"Blake refused the King’s offer of marriage but instead funded the Royal Family to build a Royal Library and a museum near Nali Lake. He had only one condition: that the people of Nali could enter the museum yearly because he wanted the Nali people to firmly remember their history."
"This was once considered a good tale, but now it seems not entirely so. While Blake was building the museum and library for the Royal Family, he also situated his treasure vault there, unbeknownst to all visitors admiring the past glories of the Nali Royal Family in the museum."
"He used the Royal military’s strength to protect his own wealth, and if the entrance to the vault is where the riddle suggests, it must be hidden within the library adjacent to the museum."
Listening, Moli seemed to understand but also not quite, her mind filled with many questions. However, the first one that came to her was about Elizabeth, another princess fond of Fisher, so she blurted out,
"Why... why would Captain Blake refuse the king’s marriage proposal?"
Fisher slightly opened his mouth, a hint of inscrutable expression in his eyes, reflecting a guess he had made upon seeing the last experimental report in the Healing Room. After a moment’s hesitation, he decided to reveal the truth to Moli.
"Moli, there’s something I want to tell you in advance..."
"Eh? What is it?"
"Your Aunt Mu Xi has lived in the human world for eighty years, which is a very long time, almost equal to a human life span. She married a human man while ashore, and it’s very likely that man was Captain Blake, who was just now trying to capture us."
"What... what?!"
Moli could hardly believe that the old man who had just cruelly tried to take her back was her uncle.
"But... if so, why is he looking for me? How is my aunt now... I..."
