Demi-human Girls Completion Manual -
Chapter 319 - 129. Benevolence is weak
Chapter 319: 129. Benevolence is weak
Looking at the man in black who was obediently lowering his gaze in front of her, Elizabeth approached him with a smile that was not quite a smile. When she was close enough, the man cleverly waved to his subordinates behind him, signaling them to step back so they couldn’t hear the conversation with Elizabeth.
Before Elizabeth had even opened her mouth, the man, who was the manager from the Hidden Affairs Bureau, already struggled to say with a forced smile,
"Your Highness, please do not put me in a difficult position. This is an order from His Majesty the King..."
Elizabeth looked at him, her expression turning slightly astonished, clearly somewhat incredulous.
"Do you realize what you are saying? You are my brother’s man; does he know about this?"
The man in black gave a bitter smile, still not daring to look up at Elizabeth, and spoke in a quiet voice,
"It was Prince Dexter who sent me here."
At this point, Elizabeth finally understood the situation. The operation tonight, which involved capturing Lunxis and clearing the Healing Room, was considered a perfect completion, but before the operation, Elizabeth had already warned Dexter that this matter would upset Gedelin IX, who was still alive.
It was clear to everyone that behind Lunxis’s actions stood the old King on the verge of his end. Despite agreeing smoothly earlier, now after bringing Lunxis back to the Golden Palace, he changed his mind!
"Tonight His Majesty summoned Prince Dexter. After the meeting, Prince Dexter sent me to temporarily detain Mr. Fisher and also entrusted me with this letter to be delivered to you..."
Elizabeth received the letter, and Dexter’s handwriting was clear on it,
"Elizabeth, Father has already summoned me and apologized to us for the earlier events. He is deeply aware that his days are numbered and asking Lunxis for a method to prolong his life was a momentary lapse of judgment, which he deeply regrets. He has promised me, effective today, he and Lunxis will not step out of the Golden Palace nor will they interfere with any matters again. Furthermore, he holds a Blood Oath made by Blake, who has sworn to leave Nali within seven days."
"As children of the Father, Blake and he both once cared for us in our youth. Now that Father and Blake have both made concessions, pursuing this further could easily turn into a scandal attracting public attention, which would severely damage the reputation of the Golden Palace. Both morally and emotionally, this matter should be put to rest. I will let Fisher rest well in the Hidden Affairs Bureau for a few days before releasing him."
"Moreover, you must not act recklessly alone; otherwise, Fisher will be treated as a true criminal of Nali, causing irreparable damage to his long-held reputation, something neither you nor he would want to witness."
"Dexter."
Elizabeth closed her eyes, knowing that her kind brother had gone soft at the last moment.
Whether for his brother or father, he was unwilling to fail them at this time, which truly made him a good son and brother.
Furthermore, the previously mentioned Blood Oath of Blake was actually a kind of Magic that bound life and death within it; once the swearer breached the vow maintained by the magic, the magic would instantly draw out all the Life Energy of the person and kill them, meaning Blake would truly leave Nali within seven days never to return.
"I understand, wait a moment, I need to instruct him a few things."
"Please proceed."
Elizabeth, holding the letter, slowly walked back toward her carriage, opened the door, and saw Fisher gently opening the curtains inside, his expression very stern, clearly having heard the outside conversation.
He sighed softly and said to Elizabeth,
"Once Blake leaves, he will definitely give up his shares in the exploration company within Nali. It’s not surprising your brother agreed to his terms; he intends to gift all those shares to the Royal Family, thereby alleviating a lot of the monopoly issues surrounding the exploration company. Your brother is also eager for accomplishments, a compelling temptation for him as he is about to become the King."
Elizabeth quietly looked at Fisher and Moli inside the carriage; Fisher also looked straight at her. Honestly, whatever decision Elizabeth made now wouldn’t surprise Fisher at this point.
With the situation having reached this stage, clearly Blake had already laid out everything to Dexter, taking all the blame upon himself to atone. For his redemption, he surrendered everything and would never return to his homeland, Nali.
Considering the interests and the pleas from Gedelin IX, it’s not surprising Dexter would agree after weighing the options.
Following this trajectory, neither Gedelin IX, Dexter, nor Elizabeth would lose anything; rather, they would still gain what they wanted.
In the end, Blake would get to leave as the Son of the Sea safely, Gedelin IX would preserve the last bit of his reputation, and Dexter would ascend to the throne safely...
After all, what value does a demi-human they’ve never met have to these people?
But obviously, Mr. Fisher would never agree, something Elizabeth was well aware of.
After a long silence, Elizabeth looked at Mr. Fisher in front of her and suddenly asked,
"Do you know where the Blake Vault is located?"
"I do."
In that brief moment, Mr. Fisher had decoded the clues buried by Kachina and discovered the exact location of the Blake Vault.
Upon hearing Mr. Fisher’s response, Elizabeth sighed, slightly turned in the carriage, and spoke without looking at Mr. Fisher and Moli beside him,
"Alright, use my carriage to leave here and search for clues in his vault. I will go back to the Golden Palace and try to buy you time with Prince Dexter, but no matter what, I’m afraid I can only delay it for one day. If it fails, you will be prosecuted by Prince Dexter, I..."
"A day is enough; I will come back with the evidence."
Elizabeth’s words abruptly stopped, and then she nodded imperceptibly before getting off the carriage, saying,
"My horse is very gentle; she recognizes your scent. Let her sniff you before you use the carriage; she will obey."
Just as she was about to step down, Mr. Fisher suddenly grabbed her hand from behind. His warm, large hand tightly enveloped her slim, cold one, causing her to pause in her step.
She turned to look behind her and saw Mr. Fisher gazing directly at her,
"Thank you, Elizabeth."
She opened her mouth, a strange impulse urging her to say something, as if something deep inside her had been touched.
But when she saw Moli sitting behind him, she gently closed her mouth again, not voicing the words she had intended to say, and thus no one knew what she originally wanted to express.
She simply said,
"Make sure, to ensure your safety."
"Yes."
She got off the carriage alone, facing the puzzled looks of the Hidden Affairs Bureau officials. She stood motionless, then suddenly addressed the nearby Guard Army,
"All Guard Army, stand by!"
"Yes!"
The man in black had a foreboding feeling; he pointed at the carriage and shouted,
"Your Highness! Do you realize what you are doing...ah!"
Before he could finish, the door of the carriage suddenly opened, and a man in tattered clothing stepped out — it was Fisher Benavides, whom he intended to arrest.
He gently touched the horse leading the carriage. The horse turned to look at Mr. Fisher, then raised its hoof and neighed loudly,
"Damn! He’s escaping! Quickly, catch him!"
But they were too late; the two horses sprinted away with the carriage like lightning, striking through the street and scattering the members of the Hidden Affairs Bureau who were in their way. Some people fired at the carriage, but the heavily armored knights stood silently in front of them, preventing them from approaching the princess’s carriage.
"Your Highness! How could you be so reckless? Once he escapes, he is now a criminal of Saint Nali!"
The man in black, clutching his painfully adorned abdomen, limped to Elizabeth and, seeing her calm gaze, slowly deflated in aggression.
She said nothing more, just waved her hand to dismiss the Guard Army back to their barracks, and then she slowly walked in the direction of the Golden Palace, disappearing into the night.
