Chapter 280: 116. The Mystique of Centaur_3
Mr. Fischer’s gaze moved downwards, scanning her other organs to check for further issues. As his gaze nearly reached her reproductive system, Xiayat noticed and suddenly became shy, her face turning red. She quickly stood up, shaking off the Handcane that Fischer had placed on her, causing the shapes of those organs on her body to disappear.
"Ha... So, what’s the result?"
She asked somewhat unnaturally, her hooves twitching slightly in response, shifting the atmosphere’s mood.
Observing the shyness on her face, Moli pouted slightly. She glanced at Mr. Fischer and finally breathed a sigh of relief when he picked up his Handcane without showing any particular expression.
"Well, it’s mainly because you have two hearts. The second heart has been rarely used during your time in the Western Continent, so it’s a bit unfamiliar with sudden exercise. I didn’t see any other problem."
Mr. Fischer withdrew the Handcane, providing a simple diagnosis for her condition. Though he couldn’t guarantee it was correct, he advised Xiayat to return to him if her condition worsened, given they couldn’t rely on the New Party now.
Xiayat sighed, somewhat distressed as she rubbed the muscles behind her horse’s body, lamenting,
"It seems I’m still better suited for life on the plains of the South Continent. Back then, I ran every day on the grass, and could even teach the young centaurs among my kind how to fight and run—it was much better than eating dirt here!"
"Fight?"
Moli caught the key word in her speech and shifted her gaze from Mr. Fischer to the impressive and spirited centaur girl in front of her.
Honestly, Moli was quite envious of such courageous women, unable to be as brave as her.
Since Mr. Fischer had helped her, Moli had secretly vowed to become stronger and put more effort into her endeavors, which subconsciously prompted this query.
Moli’s words caught Xiayat’s attention, who nodded with a smile,
"Heh, don’t underestimate me being a female centaur. I’m quite good at fighting, and also at teaching others... Did Mr. Fischer say he was teaching you to fight? If you ask me, it’s not fighting skills that you need to learn now, but rather the courage to fight."
Mr. Fischer’s eyes shifted slightly. In fact, he had brought Moli here specifically to train her courage, knowing that only by facing reality without hiding could she truly find balance.
He had only mentioned that they were training in combat, not expecting Xiayat to pinpoint Moli’s issue so accurately.
Mr. Fischer had no objections to Xiayat’s comments, instead, he listened attentively to her thoughts.
After all, Mr. Fischer was himself only a novice in hand-to-hand combat; even Elliog had sighed over his training before. Now having a professional offer advice might not be such a bad idea, especially since he didn’t want to end up in the Healing Room with an uncontrollably panicked Moli.
Upon hearing this, Moli glanced at Mr. Fischer, and upon seeing him nod, she asked Xiayat,
"So... how can I possess the courage to fight? I... every time I think about fighting, I just want to hide. I don’t want to face conflict at all..."
"Courage isn’t about encouraging you to conflict with others but about building your capacity to meet challenges. The centaurs’ body structure actually isn’t very suitable for running. Look, our upper body is like a human’s, and only the lower body is equine. When the young foals start running, the scenery flying by, the strong wind hitting their faces, and the uncontrollable force tossing them backward become sources of their fear..."
In Xiayat’s description, Mr. Fischer just then realized that centaurs were not born runners. Unlike natural horses, these demi-humans needed training to run properly. Once started, their human-like upper bodies weren’t adapted to the equine form; they had to learn to use the right running posture.
"So, they need to fall over and over again on the plains, cutting their skin against the wind until they learn to run. From standing still, to blindly running with eyes shut in fear, to eventually running fluently and speedily."
"You must believe in yourself, just as centaurs can’t hide their desire to dash when they see the plains. Since Moli comes from the Ocean, being a demi-human akin to the dominating Whale-man Species, you definitely won’t remain stuck in timidity and fear..."
Moli’s eyes brightened as she listened, evidently moved by the way Xiayat described the centaurs’ training to run. Her tail flicked excitedly, waiting for Xiayat’s guidance.
Xiayat slightly smiled, looking down towards the Klein River and then back at Mr. Fischer, somewhat unnaturally saying,
"Well, in short, that—the thing is, I’m not saying Mr. Fischer’s way of teaching combat is bad, I mean, is there a possibility, since Moli is a sea demi-human, wouldn’t water-based training be much better?"
Faced with Xiayat’s unintentional doubt, Mr. Fischer opened his mouth, unable momentarily to refute, for he felt that Xiayat made a lot of sense.
Whale-man Species couldn’t stay on land for long, living on land was a great strain for them, and they had to return to soak in the water for a long time periodically, let alone undergo combat training...
Once this reasoning was clear, the atmosphere suddenly quietened down, with only Moli adorably glancing at Mr. Fischer, then at Xiayat.
Then, as though realizing something, she blushed and quickly explained on behalf of Mr. Fischer,
"Mr. Fischer’s training has been very effective... and it has helped me a lot. I’ve become much braver than before!"
"I know, I wasn’t saying anything against how well Mr. Fischer teaches..."
After Xiayat finished speaking, Mr. Fischer barely perceptibly sighed, looking at Moli beside him, and then said,
"Xiayat is right. I’m indeed not very knowledgeable about combat training since I’ve only just begun. Starting tomorrow, let’s try training in the Klein River like Xiayat suggested."
