Chapter 255: 107.Background Music_3
Fisher shook his head and refused Elizabeth’s suggestion,
"You sending troops would be too obvious, they would just hide away. I won’t have any issues, you can trust me."
"Yes, yes... you are indeed much stronger than when you were in university, especially since returning from the South Continent. Did something happen there, or was it just regular exercise?"
As Elizabeth spoke, her gaze turned to Fisher’s body. She had touched Fisher’s arm before during the celebration of Gedelin Festival at Saint Nali University and, of course, knew he had become much stronger.
He owed that to the Demi-human Girls Completion Manual he held in his arms.
"I’ve been training lately."
"Anyway, being healthy is a good thing. I’d be more worried about your health if you just stayed in your room writing articles."
Fisher did not forget to tell Elizabeth about Anna either, first asking,
"Speaking of which, have you been to Full Moon Church on Nate Weng Street before?"
Elizabeth touched her chin upon hearing Fisher’s words, seemingly pondering; it took her several seconds before she said,
"Hmm, I think I have been there. I was invited by the Church to some event before, you know. To a large extent, I often attend as a representative of the Royal Family in place of my brothers. Women have more affinity in this regard, so I frequently substitute for them. Why do you ask so suddenly?"
Fisher then briefly explained the issue with Anna to Elizabeth, and relayed all the information Anna had shared with him. When he mentioned that Blake was the one pulling the strings behind the scenes, Elizabeth suddenly raised her hand, not towards Fisher, but towards Stuna behind the bar.
Stuna, seeing the gesture, bowed knowingly to Elizabeth and then left the coffee shop. After the door to the café closed, only the two of them were left in the room.
Elizabeth’s expression turned quite serious as she twisted her head to look at Fisher,
"Actually, back then, betting the chips on that Holy Maiden vessel headed for outer expansion wasn’t just the Nali Exploration Company, but also my father who had just ascended the throne and was eager to make his mark."
"The outcome proved they bet right. My father cleared the disgrace that had loomed over Nali since the time of Gedelin V, and the Nali Exploration Company grew to an unmanageable size... And Blake, he is now the largest shareholder of the Nali Exploration Company."
Elizabeth glanced at the still surface of her drink in her cup and paused for a while before turning her head back to Fisher and continued,
"Even if my father and Blake are on the wane, as long as they are alive, they still wield unparalleled influence. For your safety, I tell you this. If Pink Hall really is backed by Blake, I hope you will give up fighting against him. He doesn’t have much time left, will you listen to me?"
Her golden eyes held only Fisher’s reflection, just him alone in her gaze.
It was the first time Fisher learned that the largest shareholder of the Nali Exploration Company was Blake. Looking at the current situation, under Blake’s control, not only was there the help of extraordinary props like the Completion Manual, but also the massive support of the Nali Exploration Company.
And Elizabeth’s meaning was clear; to a great extent, her father, Gedelin IX, was still part of the Pioneering Faction.
Before his death, neither Dexter nor Elizabeth could go against his wishes—unless there was publicly damning evidence, otherwise Elizabeth could not overtly assist Fisher in attacking Blake.
Watching Elizabeth, Fisher pondered for a while, then shook his head and responded,
"No, I will still take action against him. Even if Blake is backed by the Nali Exploration Company, I can’t let him do as he pleases."
More critically, if Blake had the Completion Manual in his possession, looking at Philone’s case, one could only imagine he might do even more outrageous things, the Human Worms being a case in point.
Elizabeth watched Fisher for a long time, then nodded in understanding,
"I see... Since you have made your choice, I will stand firmly behind you as well, but we still need concrete evidence to prove that he is a threat to national security, to prove he is experimenting on human bodies. Since that Anna shows willingness to cooperate, let’s help her destroy that relic. Having her as a living witness to guide us is the most reliable approach."
"If you encounter any danger, you should immediately stop. Even if Blake discovers your identity, I will do everything in my power to protect your safety."
At that point, Elizabeth gently placed her hand on Fisher’s, though the probing gesture dared not linger too long, and after a few seconds, she withdrew her soft and fragrant hand, leaving a trace of her scent on Fisher’s skin.
"...Thank you."
Actually, considering Elizabeth’s position, she had no obligation to help him; after all, both Blake and her father were part of the Pioneering Faction, and she was not going to be the next King. Offending the mighty Nali Exploration Company was totally unwarranted.
But in the end, Elizabeth still chose to do so.
Hearing Fisher’s words, Elizabeth smiled and shook her head, saying,
"The exploration company has indeed brought glory to Nali, but over the decades, it has also been developing into a tumor, something both of us know. Overthrowing Blake and wounding the exploration company would benefit Nali and the Royal Family..."
She didn’t mention the real reason, but both of them there understood it, didn’t they?
After they had finished discussing the important matters, they seemed to have nothing more to say, as if making small talk was unnecessary. In the coffee shop, with the unceasing sound of the violin, the two sat side by side, occasionally sipping the beverages from their cups, feeling each other’s presence.
Fisher usually drank alcohol or coffee swiftly, and beverages like this, not in large quantities, he could finish in two gulps.
But for some reason, today this cup of honey milk took him more than fifteen minutes to drink.
Until the last drop of milk was swallowed, he let out a sigh. Amidst the music, he paused for a long time before saying,
"I must be going."
"...Mm."
Elizabeth responded, her cup having been empty for a while.
Fisher put on his gentleman’s hat that he had removed earlier, turned his head, and Elizabeth sat quietly beside him, watching him don his hat.
She wore no makeup, her lips slightly pressed together, her golden eyes quietly watching the person before her.
Their gaze lingered a bit too long on each other, and then, a second later, without knowing who initiated it, someone’s distance moved forward slightly, in the direction of the other’s lips.
The music in the background reached its end, and suddenly the coffee shop fell silent, interrupting their entranced blurriness.
Fisher’s eyes moved slightly as he stood up; Elizabeth’s previously leaning forward posture also awkwardly retreated a bit, straightening her dress...
In the subtly awkward and suggestive atmosphere between adults, Fisher repeated the departure words once more,
"I must be going."
Elizabeth’s response changed somewhat,
"...Remember to be careful."
"Okay."
The background music in the coffee shop resumed, but the gentleman pushed the door open and left, leaving only a beautiful Lady behind, staring at the scenery outside the window.
