Chapter 185: Slander

Chapter 185: Slander

Hearing Mr. Fisher’s words, Moli glanced at their incredibly awkward position and her face immediately turned beet red. She quickly stood up and then crouched down next to Mr. Fisher, apologizing in a low voice,

"Sorry... I’m so sorry..."

However, her soft tail remained on her knees, gently patting her own body as she spoke, as though soothing a child about to fall asleep.

In the dark, her pair of blue eyes, filled with the vastness of the ocean itself, flickered with a faint glow, alongside the fluorescent light that shone from her non-human form, making her appear like a princess in the darkness. A tiara-like band gently lifted her silky hair, moving with her every breath.

Mr. Fisher sat up and looked at Moli beside him. She seemed to be deliberately using her body to block his view, preventing him from seeing the mermaid tail behind her.

Her skin was not slimy, nor did it have any strange, fishy smell. Instead, there was a fresh fragrance about her, like some aquatic flower, sweet and pure.

Despite the absence of any water sources around, Mr. Fisher noticed her mermaid tail and hair were somewhat wet, moistened by an unknown source of water.

Mr. Fisher’s scrutinizing gaze moved quickly. Wherever his eyes landed, Moli’s skin seemed to heat up, slowly turning her face, neck, and even other areas a shade of cherry pink.

Seeing her unusual reaction, Mr. Fisher quickly withdrew his examining gaze, fearful that if he continued to look, this delicate student might burst into tears.

It’s more accurate to say she had already been crying before.

"Are you a demi-human?" Mr. Fisher asked, his expression neutral as if he was only just discovering the student’s true identity. His sudden question made Moli shudder, and after a long silence, she nodded and responded in a quiet voice,

"Yes..."

"I see."

Mr. Fisher prepared to stand, though he had no particular action in mind. Moli’s exposed identity was actually a good thing for him, and he wouldn’t tell anyone else about it. This would make it much easier to learn about the whale-men’s situation, as well as her purpose for coming ashore.

But the prerequisite was that they had to find a way to safely escape from this place first.

This was what Mr. Fisher was thinking. However, behind him, Moli, watching his back as he surveyed the surroundings, might have misunderstood something. After hesitating for a second or two, she suddenly reached out and tightly grabbed the sleeve of Mr. Fisher’s coat.

When a surprised Mr. Fisher turned to look, he saw Moli, who was kneeling on the ground behind him, with her head bowed and her blue hair obscuring her face. Then, in a small, animal-like voice, she asked,

"Mr. Fisher... could you not tell anyone that I’m a demi-human?"

"I... really enjoy my days studying at Saint Nali University, and I want to get along with Isabella, Milica, and the others... I’m also honored to be your teaching assistant, and I want to continue learning magic with you..."

"If my identity shifts from a human to a demi-human, I won’t be able to stay here anymore, so..."

Moli looked up, her eyes slightly reddened, making her face appear both delicate and vulnerable. The impulse to prevent her from crying out of pity must be the first thought of everyone who saw her.

"I... don’t want others to know I’m from the demi-human species..."

Mr. Fisher was momentarily taken aback, then turned his head away again, not pulling away from her grasping fingers on his sleeve,

"Let’s figure out how to escape from here first. After all, I’m quite curious about the oceanic demi-humans and why you’ve come ashore disguised as a human..."

Following Moli’s fingers, which clung to his sleeve, he clasped her wrist and pulled her up from the ground. He picked up the Handcane and Fluid Sword she had knocked over and then, turning calmly to Moli, said,

"You are my student assistant. If I think about it, looking for another student would be quite troublesome, since there’s supposed to be mutual trust between student assistants and teachers, right? Okay, let’s go meet up with the others."

After hearing Mr. Fisher’s words about "mutual trust between student assistants and teachers," Moli’s face flushed with joy, and she happily nodded, following behind Mr. Fisher.

Indeed, Lingna was right; Mr. Fisher is indeed a very friendly human...

Even surrounded by darkness, Moli felt as if there was a halo of sanctity around the man’s figure in front of her, unaware that Mr. Fisher had already known she wasn’t an ordinary human, though it was the first time he had witnessed the full appearance of a "whale-man species."

"By the way, Mr. Fischer..." Moli’s voice suddenly rose from behind him, and as he turned to look at her, she unexpectedly reached out a finger towards his face. In Mr. Fisher’s line of sight, the turbulent blue currents in her eyes seemed to come to life, slowly starting to spin, and the next moment, his cheek began to feel itchy.

When Mr. Fisher reached up to touch his cheek, he found that the area that had been cut open was now completely healed.
