Chapter 4758: Chapter 3831: The School Doctor’s "Daily Routine" (9)
A massive brawl, everyone ended up with injuries. Though none were particularly serious, they still had to be taken to the campus hospital for treatment. Shiller stood at the hospital’s door, looking at the crowd of Batmans, already seriously considering how to write his resignation letter.
It’s only the second day of school, yet a hospital room is almost fully occupied. Shiller felt deep despair about his career future.
But even if he wanted to resign, he couldn’t leave today. The other professors had gone to teach, leaving Shiller alone to treat all these patients.
Among them, Night Owl was the worst injured. Though he no longer had low blood sugar, he was caught and beaten by Arkham Batman. Besides bruises and scrapes, one arm was dislocated, and his jawbone was slightly misaligned. Shiller had to fix his bones first and then treat the scrapes.
Next was Bruce. Although he had the protection of Holy Light, Arkham Batman was incredibly fast, resulting in a punch he couldn’t dodge. Scrapes on the corner of his mouth and face needed iodine treatment.
The other Batmans involved in the fight had minor scrapes here and there. But for Batmans, these are not considered injuries, and they had no intention of staying put in the hospital. Shiller, annoyed by the crowded room, drove them out to tour the campus hospital.
The campus hospital is actually an independent space, requiring professor approval to enter or exit, so there was no worry of them escaping. The key point was, even if they ran away, they wouldn’t trouble him; it would be better if they ran to Strange.
Shiller thought: after the morning classes were over, he’d usher out the Batmans, and by the end of the lunch break, the remaining ones should be nearly healed, allowing him to clear out the hospital.
But things didn’t go as planned. Shiller might have recently encountered a streak of bad luck. While he went to the preparation room to grab a cotton swab, a shadow leisurely walked into the hospital room—it was Mephisto wearing Shiller’s appearance.
He shouldn’t be called Mephisto; he should be called Murphy’s Law. Whatever Shiller feared came true. As soon as he entered, all the Batmans staying there had their aches disappear, coming over to see this rare creature.
Shiller came out from the preparation room and saw Night Owl raise an eyebrow at him and say, "Another universe’s doppelgänger?"
Mephisto turned around and smiled at Shiller. Shiller closed his eyes, truly wishing to just sleep forever on the spot.
He quickly put down the tray in his hand and dragged Mephisto out of the room. He originally wanted to privately ask what he was doing here, but in his panic, he forgot there were more Batmans in the hallway, equally challenging.
Once the Primary Universe Batman and Arkham Batman finished touring his office, they stepped out into the hallway, seeing two identical-looking individuals tugging and pulling.
"Doctor?" Primary Universe Batman tentatively called out.
Shiller sensed trouble. Others might not discern, but Primary Universe Batman would undoubtedly see that the identical-looking one wasn’t Shiller. It’s not just that the Primary Universe Batman knows Shiller has no doppelgängers, only different personality traits; his level of spiritual analysis alone is enough to detect that the real Shiller and Mephisto are entirely different.
Shiller wanted to hold Mephisto and prevent him from making any moves, but Mephisto smiled and nodded at Primary Universe Batman. Shiller knew immediately that he was exposed because the gaze of Primary Universe Batman visibly deepened.
"What exactly are you doing here?" Shiller decided to address Mephisto first.
"You really don’t know?" Mephisto said, "The second installment is about to begin filming, and the third installment includes me. I have to come and adapt ahead of time, right? By the way, who are these guys?"
For a moment, Shiller didn’t know how to respond. It’s not that the story was long, it’s crucially that letting Mephisto know who Batman was might not be a good thing.
Mephisto is a particularly diligent devil, capable of being described as a hardworking, dedicated, and extremely passionate career-type devil. To achieve his performance indicators, he not only works year-round without rest but is willing to do anything.
Just like Ghost Rider Johnny. The Spirit of Revenge inside him is not controlled by the devil, being an independent force. But he insisted on interfering, pulling people over to work for him. He even competed with Great Angel Uriel for people; Uriel couldn’t outmatch him, showcasing his extreme approach to talent acquisition.
Though Batman lacks magic talent, to a being of Mephisto’s level, the human race’s little magic talent is virtually nonexistent. The key is not about having talent, but about the ability to work.
Is there anyone more efficient than Batman in getting things done?
Mephisto was unfortunately born in the wrong world. If he were born on the DC side, he would definitely have a broad stage with endless opportunities. Barbados contracted Mad Laugh with much effort; give Mephisto 100 days, and he could contract all Batmans from the Light Universe to the dark universe.
This is only because he’s under Strange’s watchful eye, preventing Mephisto from rampaging or recklessly applying mind-reading techniques, otherwise these Batmans wouldn’t be able to escape.
Shiller’s concern was that once Mephisto discovered Batman’s potential, he’d insist on contracting them.
Typically, Batman wouldn’t sign a contract with a devil. However, since this isn’t their original world, signing contracts here for research wouldn’t affect anything upon returning, so it’s uncertain they wouldn’t be tempted. Even if a few with higher moral levels remain unwavering, isn’t there still a moral low ground?
Shiller sighed and said, "They’re all Strange’s students, spare them a glance; beware he might hit you."
"I have a visa!" Mephisto boasted, "Director Chris really loves my Hell; he’s preparing to shoot a new version of the Divine Comedy with Hell as the location. I’ve contacted my old friend Uriel; the latter part will be filmed in Heaven..."
Shiller was practically about to applaud for his entrepreneurial spirit. No wonder he could control such a large dimension, he was truly willing to go all out.
However, Mephisto’s big fuss was quite effective. Not only did he enhance his own reputation, but he also inadvertently made the Ghost Rider brothers incredibly popular. Johnny was recently getting cornered by fans everywhere.
"Have the freshmen arrived?" Mephisto asked, "Where are they having classes now? I need to check out the classroom environment. I do hold shares in this school, and the students here are the future backbone of my Hell Dimension. The classes better be up to par."
Shiller smiled and said, "Guess where you are now?"
"Uh... where is this?" Mephisto just realized he didn’t seem to be in the teaching building.
"The school hospital."
"Great... wait, why are there so many people in the school hospital?"
"You’ve hit the nail on the head." Shiller said with a sardonic smile, "On just the second day of school, during the first class, these good students ended up in a fight and then all landed in the school hospital."
Shiller’s original intention was to say that those in the school hospital weren’t model students, but he didn’t anticipate that Mephisto had a different definition of "good students." Suddenly, his eyes lit up.
"Good, good, good! Followers of devils should have a rebellious heart. Let me see, where are these warriors?"
Before Shiller could speak, Mephisto had already rushed into the ward. Although he couldn’t use his usual devilish tricks here, with his many years of experience and having met so many people, he had picked up a bit of skill in face reading.
Worried that Mephisto would cause a ruckus, Shiller followed him in, only to be grabbed by Mephisto who pointed to a person on the bed furthest to the side and said, "That one over there is a good seedling, born a freak, evil to the bone. He must have killed his own parents, right? This kind of potential is quite excellent."
Upon looking, Shiller saw it was Night Owl. With a slightly astonished expression, he looked at Mephisto as if to say, "You’re really good at face reading, huh?"
"And the second bed over there is also not bad. He’s been through a terrible disaster, failed to save his dear friends and relatives, and ended up making his best friend turn against him. The taste of such soul torment is simply too delightful..."
Following Mephisto’s direction, Shiller saw it was Injustice Batman. Looking at Mephisto’s profile, which mirrored his own exactly, he suddenly understood why others thought he could read minds.
"That one, that one over there is also good. He paid a painful price for a mistake and has always harbored guilt. It’s a pity I came a bit late, otherwise, he would surely have been a great general under my command."
Shiller saw Mephisto was pointing at Arkham Batman. He immediately sneered and said, "You got that wrong. No matter when you go to him, he would never succumb to you."
"Who said I was looking for him? He’s like a stone in a pit, hard and stinky. I’m targeting the one he feels guilty about. If I have that person in my grasp, he won’t dare help but serve me."
"You truly are a devil."
"Thank you."
Then suddenly Mephisto let out a scream. Shiller was startled and Mephisto grabbed his arm tightly.
"Who is that? Jesus! He is simply the source of chaos, a walking disaster who turns every place he goes into Hell. He’s the perfect employee for me! I’ve never seen someone more suited to be my contractor! Quick! I need to find Strange! I must get him to sign the contract immediately!!!"
Following his gaze, Shiller saw it was indeed Bruce.
"Give it up," Shiller said, "He’s an Angel from another universe, using authentic Holy Light Power, the perfect counter to evil and dark devils like you."
"What?!" Mephisto raised his voice, "An angel got there first?! No way! Even if he doesn’t work for me, he can’t work for those bird-men! I must find a way to get him!"
After speaking, he instantly changed his expression, lowering his eyebrows, relaxing his muscles, and curling up the corners of his mouth into a gentle smile, then he walked toward Bruce.
Shiller was actually quite curious about how Mephisto was going to persuade Bruce, but he forgot one thing: Mephisto currently had his face.
As soon as Mephisto approached, Bruce looked at him. As their eyes met, three pairs of pure white wings popped out from Bruce’s back, his feathers fluffed up, and he shot straight upwards, crashing into the chandelier on the ceiling.
A tragic scream echoed across the Magic Academy:
"Ghost!!!!"
