Chapter 92: Chapter 92 : Unexpected News
The rest of the night went smoothly without any unwanted disturbances.
A shichen after midnight, the banquet guests were ready to leave. Cloud carriages departed from the gates of Golden Dragon Palace to bring the Heavenly Realm residents back to their palaces.
The gods and deities, on the other hand, had their own means of transportation. They left one by one with full bellies and a smile on their faces.
Xie Jianshen and Xie Jianyu were the last to leave.
Xie Jianshen was still angry at his younger brother for dismissing today’s accident as nothing but mere misunderstanding, but he was never able to ignore Xie Jianyu completely.
Instead, he decided to treat Xie Jianyu like the toddler he was more than ten years ago.
"Go to bed as soon as you arrive," he told Xie Jianyu.
"Yes, Brother."
"Tomorrow, I will send a palace physician over to your palace to check your physical condition."
"Mmm."
It was not at all necessary because Zhang Fengxi caught him before he hit the ground, but Xie Jianyu did not want to aggravate his elder brother further. It was easier to agree with him.
Xie Jianshen was not the only one who was unhappy with Xie Jianyu’s decision. Mingyu and Qingyun, Xie Jianyu’s palace maids, were obviously disgruntled. Their faces were as dark as the night that hung above the sky as they sat inside the cloud carriage to accompany their master.
Xie Jianyu sighed as he leaned against the window and gazed outside.
It was his fault, he thought. He should not have let Liu Wenyuan get close to him. He could have chased the man away. How could he be so stupid...
It was a taxing night for Xie Jianyu, more mentally than physically. He drew comfort from the good food and wine that he enjoyed during the banquet. Oh, and the other performances went well without a hitch, too.
All in all, it was a successful Winter Solstice celebration.
Xie Jianyu fell asleep quickly when his head hit the pillow.
The next day, Mingyu brought him some breakfast to his bed. This morning, the palace kitchen came up with some grilled buns and a bowl of fish porridge. Xie Jianyu was in the middle of treating himself to the porridge when Qingyun came with a box in her hands.
"Good morning, Your Majesty. Prince Zhang Fengxi came to drop something for Your Majesty at the palace gate."
Xie Jianyu wrinkled his brows slightly.
He beckoned for Qingyun to come closer.
When he opened the box, both maids gasped in surprise.
The box contained the safety pins that Xie Jianyu wore the night before.
"Your Majesty, there are twelve of them!" Mingyu cried out in surprise.
"Wait, where did the other two come from?" Qingyun asked out loud.
"It doesn’t matter," Xie Jianyu said in response. "Send the box to my brother at Shuiran Palace with some gifts."
At this point, he really did not care anymore.
Maybe the two pins were found when Zhang Fengxi’s people searched the clouds at the end of the banquet.
Maybe they fell somewhere in his dressing room at the Golden Dragon Palace.
Or maybe Liu Wenyuan had them, for whatever reason.
It was not important.
Xie Jianyu did not wish to investigate further.
He continued eating his breakfast after dismissing his maids.
A while later, a sparkling golden butterfly flew through his open window and danced energetically in front of him.
Xie Jianyu lowered his spoon and stared at the butterfly. It was not a normal butterfly.
It was a messenger butterfly.
Xie Jianyu reached out for the butterfly. It willingly landed on his finger, after which it transformed into a piece of paper.
There was only one word written on top of it -- "Sorry".
Xie Jianyu walked toward the window and looked at the surrounding area outside. He did not see Zhang Fengxi anywhere, but he must still be here until a while ago.
Xie Jianyu tucked the piece of paper into his chest when he heard the sound of hurried footsteps approaching his room.
"Little Uncle, I came with a physician!"
Jiang Muchen sounded anxious.
"You are here."
He not only brought the physician but also Shi Qingyue. For some reason, the omega had a smug expression on her face.
"Greetings to His Majesty the Crown Prince!" she curtsied before Xie Jianyu. She then tugged at Jiang Muchen’s sleeves.
"Shouldn’t we wait outside while the physician takes a look at His Majesty?"
Jiang Muchen seemed reluctant, but he then agreed.
As expected, the palace physician did not see anything wrong with Xie Jianyu.
"Does Your Majesty feel restless from yesterday’s accident?" he asked while shutting his medicine box with a click.
"No."
"At the very least, this subject will prescribe some medicine to promote sleep and improve blood circulation."
"Fine."
Xie Jianyu was not restless, but he was getting increasingly annoyed. His body might be weak, but he was not that weak. His brother should stop exaggerating.
The palace physician himself mixed the medicine in front of Xie Jianyu. He then handed the bowl of steaming medicine to the Crown Prince.
"This subject will leave a prescription with the head servant," the palace physician said. "If there is nothing else, this subject excuses himself."
Once the palace physician was gone, Jiang Muchen and Shi Qingyue barged into the room. They elbowed each other out of the way like two immature children. Jiang Muchen eventually gave in with a sharp cry after Shi Qingyue stepped on his foot.
"Your Majesty, I have some mind-blowing news," Shi Qingyue threw herself in front of Xie Jianyu with sparkling eyes. "I bet that you can’t guess what it is."
"What is it?" Xie Jianyu asked right away. He was not in the mood to play riddles.
Thankfully, Shi Qingyue too would rather reveal the news on the spot. Giggling to herself with schadenfreude, she then informed Xie Jianyu that, "Zhang Fengxi had officially ended his engagement to Liu Wenyuan this morning."
Stunned by the news, Xie Jianyu almost dropped the bowl of medicine in his hands on the spot.
