Chapter 91 : Searching For The Safety Pins
Chapter 91: Chapter 91 : Searching For The Safety Pins
Zhang Fengxi went back to the banquet venue, but he did not return to his table. He went to find the Grand Tutor instead.
The elder man was smoking his pipe while watching the other performances from a remote corner.
"Grand Tutor."
"Ah, Prince Zhang Fengxi. Are you enjoying the night?"
"Yes."
"So what are you here for? Surely you have a lot more fun with other people than me."
Zhang Fengxi smiled.
"Grand Tutor, is there not a spell to find missing items?"
The Grand Tutor furrowed his brows at the young prince. "Did you lose something, Prince Zhang Fengxi?"
"Yes."
Zhang Fengxi took out the ten safety pins and showed them to the Grand Tutor.
"Out of my carelessness, I lost two of this dozen pins."
The Grand Tutor clicked with his tongue in admiration. He held one of the pins up and nodded his head a few times in appreciation.
"These are custom-made, aren’t they? Pretty design. What a pity that you lost two of them."
"Yes, so Grand Tutor, can you help?"
"Sure."
The Grand Tutor took out an empty talisman paper and wrote a complicated spell on top of it. The ten safety pins were placed on top of the talisman paper.
"God Of Treasures, please help to find the missing items..."
A yellow ball of light appeared from the talisman paper and floated at their eye level.
The Grand Tutor wrapped the ten safety pins into the talisman paper and handed them over to Zhang Fengxi.
"The light will lead you to the other two safety pins. Just follow them."
Zhang Fengxi cupped his hands at the Grand Tutor.
"Thank you, Grand Tutor."
The tiny yellow ball hovered an arm’s length in front of Zhang Fengxi as he walked. It bobbed up and down like a firefly, floating gently over people’s heads but never settling down.
Zhang Fengxi went with the tiny ball of light around the banquet venue three times, before he finally returned to his table. To his Wenyuan.
After every step, he prayed fervently in his heart.
"Please," he prayed. "Please do not land on Wenyuan. I don’t know what to do if it was really Wenyuan who had the two remaining safety pins."
His heart sank when the tiny ball of yellow light bounced energetically ahead of him and settled on Liu Wenyuan’s shoulder.
"..."
Liu Wenyuan stared at the mysterious light that landed on him.
"Prince Fengxi, there is something weird on my shoulder."
The ball of light bounced up and down stubbornly, as if wordlessly insisting that Liu Wenyuan was the person that they were looking for.
Zhang Fengxi extended his hand toward the ball of light. Gloomy from the lack of attention, it crept onto Zhang Fengxi’s palm and disappeared into thin air.
"What was that?"
Liu Wenyuan laughed.
Zhang Fengxi was unable to laugh.
He took a seat next to Liu Wenyuan and stared at him.
"I want to see them," he slowly said.
Liu Wenyuan gave him a puzzled look.
"See what?"
Zhang Fengxi extended his hand.
"The two safety pins, give them to me."
Liu Wenyuan’s smile was wiped off quickly from his beautiful face.
"Prince Fengxi, I..."
"Don’t lie to me," Zhang Fengxi said. "Please, it is bad enough as it is."
"..."
Liu Wenyuan stubbornly refused to take the pins out, but he was unable to stand strong against Zhang Fengxi’s persistent gaze.
The omega then took out the two safety pins and placed them none-too-gently on Zhang Fengxi’s hand.
Zhang Fengxi sighed as he wrapped his fingers around the stolen items.
"Wenyuan, why?" he asked in bewilderment. "Why must you do that?"
The omega glared at him for the first time in his life. Zhang Fengxi was taken aback by this unexpected aggression.
"Why, you asked," Liu Wenyuan scoffed. "Why do you care so much?"
"Wenyuan, you... he is the crown prince."
"Does it mean that he gets to have everything?"
"... No, what are you saying?"
Zhang Fengxi’s head started to hurt. He did not understand Liu Wenyuan. No, he did not even know Liu Wenyuan anymore. The Liu Wenyuan he knew was gentle and kind.
It was the Liu Wenyuan who struggled to survive in his deathbed, but still asked Zhang Fengxi to forgive Xie Jianyu for not saving him.
"Prince Fengxi, you won’t understand," Liu Wenyuan briskly said. "We omegas do not tolerate others who try to steal our alpha."
"Wenyuan, he never tried to steal me from you."
Liu Wenyuan let out a burst of cheerless laughter.
"Does that mean that you willingly go to him, then?"
"..."
"All these times, why must you involve yourself with him? Prince Fengxi, you said that you loved me, but you are chasing his shadow all the time."
"Wenyuan, you misunderstood me! He and I are just...!"
Just what, though?
Zhang Fengxi was unable to find the right word to describe the eerie relationship between them. They were bound together in a cruel fate. The fate that Zhang Fengxi desperately tried to change.
Tears started to flow.
Liu Wenyuan looked away from Zhang Fengxi and sobbed sorrowfully.
Zhang Fengxi curled his fingers into fists.
"Wenyuan, I am sorry for causing you distress," he said. "It is not your fault or Xie Jianyu’s fault. It is all my fault. I will release you from our engagement so that you can find happiness somewhere else."
Liu Wenyuan snapped his head in Zhang Fengxi’s direction. Terror was reflected in his beautiful eyes.
"Wait, Prince! That was not what I wanted!!!"
His voice was loud enough to cause heads to turn in their direction.
Zhang Fengxi wordlessly rose to his feet and walked away. He had to return the two safety pins to Xie Jianyu and asked for his forgiveness on Liu Wenyuan’s behalf.
Behind him, he could hear Liu Wenyuan’s voice asking him to come back, but he was unable to turn around. If he did, he might change his mind about breaking up with the love of his life.
