Chapter 384: Chapter 384 : Invitation To The Wedding
"So, you and uh, Miss Bai Ling, are you two serious about each other?" Zhang Fengxi asked in a low voice once they were alone in the room.
Now that he ascertained the presence of Xie Jianyu’s soul in Qiao Wei’s body, suddenly he did not mind undressing before the man anymore.
In fact, he did not mind stripping down to his last layer if necessary. Only that it was not necessary.
As he pulled a lengthy strip of white bandage around Zhang Fengxi’s stomach, Qiao Wei smiled.
"Yes. The high abbot already granted us an auspicious date to marry. It will be in around six months from now."
"Six months."
Zhang Fengxi’s lips tugged up in a scary smile. "That is an awfully short period for an engagement. How do you know that she is the right one for you?"
Qiao Wei chuckled as he continued wrapping white bandages around Zhang Fengxi’s sculpted form.
"Bai Ling and I have known each other from childhood. If she is not the right one for me, I fear that no one is."
He knew that Qiao Wei didn’t mean it, and yet Zhang Fengxi could not help but feel dejected.
The right one stood right before him!
Jianbao, ah, Jianbao, the supreme general lamented.
Why can you not recognize your own husband???
"Bai Ling is the daughter of my shizun, the Wushan Temple Sect Leader Bai Siyang. Zhang Fengxi, seeing that you are a wanderer, it will be difficult to reach you.
Should you decide to stay in a place for a long time, please send me a letter. I would like to invite you to my wedding."
"..."
Qiao Wei blinked at Zhang Fengxi in confusion when the latter said neither yes nor no.
"I am being rude," Qiao Wei decided. "You are invited to my wedding. I will make sure to hand the invitation to you, no matter what."
Zhang Fengxi resisted the urge to tell Qiao Wei that his only purpose when attending the man’s wedding was to kidnap him and take him back to Fuxi Palace, whatever the consequences might be.
No, Zhang Fengxi, no, he kept reprimanding himself. You cannot. You must not. Why indulge in fleeting, momentary gratification at the cost of the actual objective?
Think about Mingrui and Junjie.
They have been doing their best without a mother by their side, but they miss Xie Jianyu badly.
Zhang Fengxi took a deep breath and swallowed his grievances to his stomach.
"Zhang Fengxi...? What’s wrong, are the bandages too tight?"
For some reason, the man before Qiao Wei looked like he was battling tears.
"Yes," Zhang Fengxi lied. "If you don’t mind, can you loosen them a little bit?"
The alpha took a deep breath and closed his eyes, savoring Qiao Wei’s accidental brushes against his ruddy skin, wishing that they could be together forever.
When they exited the chamber, they found Bai Ling in the middle of playing with Xiao Huang.
"Rawr! Rrrrr...!!!"
"Come, little tiger~"
Bai Ling wagged a thin bamboo stick before the tiger cub, who quickly grabbed and chewed at it with relish.
"Xiao Huang!"
Zhang Fengxi marched toward the playing duo and lifted Xiao Huang to his arms.
"He is hurt," he told Bai Ling. "He should not play right now."
"Aooooo!!! Aooooo!!!" Xiao Huang protested against his master’s decision, earning himself a gentle flick on his forehead.
Bai Ling pursed her lips and pouted.
"Boo."
Qiao Wei broke into a placating smile.
"Little Ling, do you want to keep a little tiger as a pet? I know a hunter from a nearby village who sells wild animal cubs."
A happy grin spread on Bai Ling’s face. She hugged Qiao Wei’s arm and rubbed her face against his upper arm.
"Wei Wei loves me the most. Wei Wei is the best."
Qiao Wei pinched Bai Ling’s cheek affectionately.
"I am helpless against you," he said.
"Awwwwww," Bai Ling cooed with a sickeningly sweet voice.
The two lovebirds exchanged loving glances, unaware of Zhang Fengxi, who rolled with his eyes so hard that they might just fall out of the sockets.
In the end, Zhang Fengxi could not last a full day looking at Qiao Wei and Bai Ling together.
Without waiting for Xiao Huang’s wounds to heal, the supreme general bought himself a random sword to use as transportation means back to the Heavenly Realm.
He had a very important meeting with a certain goddess.
The Goddess of Fate and Destiny always had a line of visitors waiting to see her every day.
Most of them were parents who wished to receive a Birth Reading for their newborns.
The rest were individuals who were lucky enough to be granted an audience with the goddess.
And then there were some people, who defied all rules and expectations and showed up at the Goddess’ humble abode without a prior appointment.
Supreme General Zhang Fengxi was one of these unique individuals.
The alpha tiger crossed all nine layers of heaven to reach the Goddess’ private sanctuary. As soon as he landed before the massive structure that housed the Goddess and her loyal followers, two young priestesses came forward to greet him.
"Supreme General Zhang Fengxi, welcome," they bowed their heads respectfully. "The exalted Goddess of Fate and Destiny is already waiting for you."
"Kindly follow us."
Having came once only to get Birth Readings for his twin sons, Zhang Fengxi had never been granted entry into the Goddess’ private sanctuary.
At first glance, the inner part of the Goddess’ crystal palace was no different from a labyrinth full of death traps. There were long and narrow crystal bridges with extraordinary arches that connected one level to another.
And yet, they came without any railing to keep people from falling to their deaths.
Zhang Fengxi tilted his head and looked at what lay beneath the bridges.
The bottom-most level of the crystal palace was indiscernible, while the top-most level was an enigma waiting to be unraveled.
It was no wonder why the Goddess never bothered to install a door at the palace entrance.
Anyone who entered without a guide was doomed to lose their lives slowly in the most agonizing ways.
Zhang Fengxi took straight and winding steps along the bridges, climbing one level after another, until he eventually landed on a vast circular platform that overlooked the entire heaven.
"Welcome, Supreme General," the Goddess spoke up.
Hovering in front of her was a gigantic mirror, its surface reflecting Qiao Wei and Bai Ling’s silhouettes.
