Chapter 383: Chapter 383 : Trapped Between Two
Bai Ling gave Zhang Fengxi a slight bow.
"Sir Zhang, it is very nice to meet you."
"He is the one who helped me at Dong Village," Qiao Wei told Bai Ling. "He also helped me yesterday when I performed an exorcism on a man. Oh, speaking about exorcism, I still need to take the spirit to the temple..."
Bai Ling and Zhang Fengxi exchanged stares.
"Thank you for your help all this time, Sir Zhang."
"No need to mention it."
"Wei Wei has been away from the sect for far too long. It is time for him to return."
"..."
Wei Wei?
Wei Wei???
What kind of sick nickname was that?
Zhang Fengxi could sense acid rising up his throat.
He played with the thought of accidentally spitting on Bai Ling’s face, but if he really wanted to do that, he had to step closer to her and he did not want to.
"I am thinking of staying a few days with Zhang Fengxi," Qiao Wei declared. "He got hurt when he helped me with the exorcism."
Bai Ling gave Zhang Fengxi a frown. In her eyes, Zhang Fengxi looked perfectly healthy. So where did he get hurt, again?
Zhang Fengxi took Bai Ling’s doubtful stares as the cue to start his dramatic performance.
"AHHHHHHH!!!"
The mighty supreme general doubled over in pain, almost hitting the floor with his knees.
"Zhang Fengxi!"
Qiao Wei quickly left Bai Ling’s side to help Zhang Fengxi up.
Bai Ling narrowed her eyes at the two men. Call it a woman’s instinct, but she could sense that something was not quite right.
"Are you alright? Did your wounds reopen again?"
"Yes, I think so."
Zhang Fengxi pulled a grimace and clawed into Qiao Wei’s arms.
"And I think that the fever is back. I need help."
Qiao Wei draped his arms around Zhang Fengxi’s body to straighten his posture. The two men offered a rather macabre sight, because Zhang Fengxi was bigger and taller than Qiao Wei.
It would make more sense if it was the other way around, but Bai Ling cringed at that thought.
Either way, she didn’t like it.
This Zhang Fengxi person clung too much to her Qiao Wei.
It was annoying.
"Little Ling, Zhang Fengxi needs someone to take care of him. Please tell Shizun that I will spend several more days in this town. Maybe I can help out the townsfolk during my stay."
Bai Ling pursed her lips.
"If you stay, I will also stay," she insisted. "Do you have another empty room in this little house?"
Alone the thought of living under the same roof as Bai Ling was nauseating to Zhang Fengxi.
"Unfortunately, there is none," the supreme general answered quickly. "Qiao Wei and I each occupied a room."
Bai Ling cocked her head in Qiao Wei’s direction.
"No problem, I will stay with Wei Wei."
Zhang Fengxi’s facial expression darkened in an instant.
"I disagree! An unmarried man and woman cannot stay in the same chamber!"
Bai Ling found that her dislike toward Zhang Fengxi grew exponentially with every second.
"Wei Wei and I have been close since we were babies. Wei Wei will never do anything to harm me. Right, Wei Wei?"
Zhang Fengxi glared at "Wei Wei".
Qiao Wei cleared his throat.
"Little Ling, we are in the presence of a guest. I don’t think that it is polite toward Zhang Fengxi if we start sleeping in one chamber."
"Well, Miss Bai Ling, if you insist on staying in this house, why not I move into Qiao Wei’s room and you can stay in mine?" Zhang Fengxi offered while suppressing a smirk with all his might.
Bai Ling’s jaw fell open in amazement.
"No!"
On the other hand, Qiao Wei thought that this arrangement was not too bad.
"Why not, Little Ling? If I stay with Zhang Fengxi, I will be able to monitor his health. The faster he recovers, the faster will I return to Mount Wu."
Bai Ling put both hands against her hip and obstinately objected, "No, no way! Not allowed!"
"If Miss Bai Ling disagrees, I guess Miss Bai Ling cannot stay in this house," Zhang Fengxi let out a sigh, dripping with faux disappointment.
Bai Ling’s face was dark red. She looked like she was about to explode.
Just who in seven hells’ name did Zhang Fengxi think he was? How dared he dictate the relationship between Qiao Wei and her?!
Nevertheless, she was not the type to easily back off.
Qiao Wei was hers.
Bai Ling took hold of Qiao Wei’s free elbow and shot Zhang Fengxi a self-sufficient smile.
"We from Wushan Temple Sect knew how to repay our debt, and we have never been known for turning our back on our friends. Sir Zhang, we will take very good care of you."
Zhang Fengxi’s lips were twisted into an eerie mix of a sneer and a grin.
"I consider myself lucky to befriend Qiao Wei, then."
"On the other hand, I don’t want to leave without Wei Wei. I will just stay in a nearby inn for now. Wei Wei and I will take care of you until you fully recover. How does that sound?"
Zhang Fengxi wished that a bolt of lightning would come down and scare Bai Ling off.
Bai Ling wished that Zhang Fengxi learned to read between the lines and take off swiftly.
Qiao Wei’s eyes darted between the two people, his betrothed at his right side and his new friend at his left side.
He cleared his throat awkwardly.
"So uh... It’s very rare for us to meet new friends on the road. Why don’t we eat together outside?"
Bai Ling looked like she would rather swallow poison.
Zhang Fengxi quickly groaned from pain.
"Argh... My wounds... My wounds!"
"Oh, sorry, I forgot. Zhang Fengxi, let me redress your wounds."
Zhang Fengxi casually put an arm around Qiao Wei’s neck and pulled him close.
"Yeah," he said while flashing Bai Ling a roguish smile. "Please help me, my friend."
