Chapter 128: Chapter 128 : Seclusion (1)
The two princes parted ways on bad terms again.
Zhang Fengxi felt extremely bad. Not only toward Xie Jianyu, but also toward Liu Wenyuan. Although the kiss was done during an official mission by the Heavenly Emperor, Zhang Fengxi still ended up tangling with Xie Jianyu again.
Zhang Fengxi did not want Liu Wenyuan to find out about the kiss from an unwanted source, so he decided to go ahead and confess his act of infidelity to his beloved.
At Wuyang Palace, Liu Wenyuan had just finished cutting the dead branches of his potted plants. After four days of not seeing each other, his heart leaped from joy when his betrothed came to visit.
And yet, when he saw Zhang Fengxi’s gloomy expression, he knew that Zhang Fengxi did not come just because he missed him. He had something unpleasant to share, probably related to a certain person who he assisted during his mission.
Contrary to Zhang Fengxi’s expectations, Liu Wenyuan was very calm. He listened attentively to Zhang Fengxi’s story, starting from Song Wan Rong’s betrothal to Xie Jianyu, his mother’s unreasonable task for him to interview Xie Jianyu, down to the mission that brought him and Xie Jianyu together.
Zhang Fengxi explained everything in great detail. He made sure that Liu Wenyuan knew that for the first three days, nothing untoward happened between them. Until the mass ghost wedding took place, of course.
"To resolve the accumulating grudge of the twenty-four sacrificial maidens, we decided to hold a mass ghost wedding for them. Alas, we did not know that the ghost brides wanted more than just going through the wedding."
Liu Wenyuan seemed to have prepared himself for the worst news.
"Did you sleep with him, then?"
Zhang Fengxi was aghast. Had his scandalous relationship with Xie Jianyu so far created such a poor impression of him in Liu Wenyuan’s heart?
"Gods in heaven, no!"
On his knees, Zhang Fengxi took Liu Wenyuan’s hands in his and held them tightly.
"We kissed. That’s all," Zhang Fengxi said while looking straight into Liu Wenyuan’s eyes.
"Oh."
The nonchalance in Liu Wenyuan’s voice gave Zhang Fengxi heart palpitations. He did not want Liu Wenyuan to stop caring. It would be better if the omega cried, and threw tantrums. Zhang Fengxi would rather be beaten a hundred times by his father than see the omega behave this way.
"Wenyuan, I swear by my ancestors that..."
"I believe you," Liu Wenyuan said before Zhang Fengxi soiled the names of his ancestors for such a trivial matter. "It’s just..."
"It’s just, what?"
At this point, Zhang Fengxi was desperate to save his relationship. If Liu Wenyuan had asked for a set of robes made of gold threads, Zhang Fengxi might just send him a carriage full of gold.
Liu Wenyuan cracked a shy smile, the kind of smile that made Zhang Fengxi melt time and time again.
"We are getting married soon," Liu Wenyuan explained. "So is the Crown Prince. I do not wish for the two of you to keep having an awkward relationship in the future. After all, he is going to be the future Heavenly Emperor and you will be the Longjing Palace Master.
Maybe it’s time for the Crown Prince and I to have a heart-to-heart talk. Don’t you think so, Prince Fengxi?"
A huge mountain fell from Zhang Fengxi’s heart when he heard what Liu Wenyuan wanted to say.
"Oh, Wenyuan..."
Zhang Fengxi gathered his beloved into his arms. He could barely believe his ears. He had misjudged his beloved greatly. His Wenyuan had a heart as vast as the blue sky and the kindness of the Goddess of Mercy.
His Wenyuan was more than what he could ever hope for.
"I am so lucky to have you," he whispered as he dropped tiny kisses along Liu Wenyuan’s neck. "I promise you that this will never happen again. My heart is forever yours, I will be devoted to you even beyond death."
As he held Liu Wenyuan in his arms, Zhang Fengxi was unable to see the sour look that hushed over Liu Wenyuan’s soft features.
"It will indeed never happen again," the omega thought to himself. "I am going to make sure it won’t."
"Then, Prince Fengxi, can you help arrange for the talk?" Liu Wenyuan asked sweetly. "I fear that he might be averse to meeting with me alone."
"Leave it to me!" Zhang Fengxi hurriedly said. "I will make Xie Jianyu agree to meet you!"
Zhang Fengxi later found out that this was not an easy feat to achieve.
Not if Xie Jianyu was not willing to meet him.
When Zhang Fengxi showed up at Fuxi Palace the next day, the two guards who stood at the palace entrance crossed their spears in front of the gate at the same time.
"Excuse us, Prince Zhang Fengxi," one of them said. "Our esteemed Palace Master has expressly banned Your Highness from the palace ground."
"..."
Zhang Fengxi took a deep breath.
And then he shouted at the top of his lungs.
"XIE JIANYU! COME OUT NOW, I NEED TO TALK TO YOU!"
".........."
Both guards were speechless. Had it been any other person with a lesser rank, they might not hesitate to throw the person out. Then again, this insolent visitor was the heir of the Longjing Palace.
Xie Jianyu neither answered nor came out.
"XIE JIANYU! I AM GOING TO BARGE INTO YOUR PALACE IF YOU DON’T COME OUT NOW!"
The expressions on the guards’ faces hardened immediately. They both wondered if they could take on Zhang Fengxi, two-to-one. Did the prince not own the renowned Three Realm Spear?
Unexpectedly, the red-golden gate swung open. Someone stepped out, but it was not Xie Jianyu. It was Mingyu. Her face was dark and she looked greatly annoyed.
"Greetings to Your Highness, Prince Zhang Fengxi," she said with an insincere curtsy.
"Our Palace Master is not available to meet Your Highness. Please come back another day."
"Is he sick or angry?" Zhang Fengxi arched his brow. "Or maybe so angry that he becomes sick?"
Mingyu tried her best to remain pleasant, but all she wanted to do was give Zhang Fengxi a good slap that he more than deserved.
"Our Palace Master went into seclusion starting today."
Zhang Fengxi’s mouth dropped open.
Seclusion? Right after he came back from the Human Realm?
