Chapter 594: Chapter 505 Moonlight Stroll_2
Xu Yang climbed up the sturdy spine of Pelagia, carefully avoiding the bone spurs that dotted its surface, with Rinne following close behind.
Once they were seated securely, Pelagia’s wings fluttered, and she took off from the mine, flying them through the Moon’s world protected by a barrier.
"The place is littered with the company’s devices," Rinne saw countless satellites and probes scattered in space, at least half of them launched by the Lighthouse Core, their ambitions for the Starry Sea enormous.
"My father’s barrier protects our privacy," Pelagia said as she flew through the sky, "Inside the barrier, half the world has become the domain of dragons. We can soar, reproduce, and survive, just like on the Ground, without any difference."
"I must be dreaming," Rinne said, feeling dizzy on the back of the giant dragon.
Pelagia slowed down, bringing them to land on a vast expanse of the lunar wilderness, desolate and silent all around, with nothing but the pale lunar soil, finally allowing them to see the blue planet itself more clearly.
Rinne stood on the ground, sensing the ethereal and quiet atmosphere.
I really came to the Moon.
A dream...
Came true.
She closed her eyes, spreading her arms—she was 400,000 kilometers away from the Ground. How far would she have to walk to get back?
She once thought that going to the Moon was an utterly impractical pipe dream, a huge joke she made to herself, an absurd and ironic notion.
But now she had done it.
She stood upon the land of the Moon, gazing at that azure orb surrounded by frost-white atmosphere, continents and oceans so distinct, with the dark side in the night and the sunlit side in the day, the line of twilight slicing in diagonally, allowing for the existence of polar day and night.
Looking back at her tiny home from the starry sky, Rinne felt her perspective was exceptionally broad, allowing her to measure all meaning and value on a larger scale.
Rinne turned toward the direction of the sun, having experienced it with virtual reality machines; she knew the sun on the Moon was extremely bright and blinding. But she didn’t see it this time, for the lunar sunrise and sunset take dozens of days.
"You should be grateful there is no sun," Pelagia’s voice thundered, "On your planet, you have the kind atmosphere to lessen the sunlight. But on the Moon, humans seeing the sun for the first time will be blinded forever."
"I’ve come to the Moon... I’ve accidentally learned too many secrets," Rinne couldn’t help saying, "I... "
She knew that this matter was of great importance. Nestor Corporation had portals to the Moon, and a group of dragons lived there. That was why human moon landings always failed because the astronauts fed the dragons, and probes that got too close would be destroyed by them. The Dragon Maiden, Wei Shiyue, must certainly have been born from these dragons, too. Knowing such top-secret information all at once, what was she to do?
"Now there’s reason enough to be indentured to Nestor Corporation," Xu Yang nodded, speaking in a relaxed tone, "Work with us til death."
"Til death," Rinne nodded lightly. To labor for Mr. Web Monitor till death, it didn’t matter, she liked it.
Rinne wandered the deathly still plains of the Moon, her hands clasped behind her back, savoring the boundless sense of solitude.
The entire galaxy was pitch black and tranquil, with nothing else to disturb it.
Was this a dream? Was it an illusion provided by the company that had imprisoned her, with tubes attached to the back of her head? Rinne could no longer distinguish; she walked quietly on the Moon, which meant so much to her.
There was nothing more to fear. Rinne now knew what she had to do.
Walk forward.
Watching Rinne walk away, Xu Yang turned to look at Pelagia, whose red dragon form shook the ground with each step she took.
"There are more illusions in the distant starry sea." Xu Yang saw some hazy spectacles beyond the black backdrop of the galaxy.
"The Lighthouse." Pelagia said simply, "Don’t look too far away."
"Where did Lord Mond go?" Xu Yang changed the subject.
"He is entertaining some guests in the Moonlight Garden, Sky, Affection, Cloud, these three demigods are among the few who still remain neutral, it would be good if we could persuade them to join in the future battle. Whether it’s building the Star Dragon Fleet from the Moon or something else, dragons need allies, or we will all perish in the final battle that decides the fate of the world."
"The Moon is too small for dragons." Xu Yang looked at her, knowing that the Dragon Kind harbored ambitions to return to the Ground and contend with Humans for their home.
"My father Mond is a hundred times my size, and if he is content with life on the Moon, then as his offspring, I can only accompany him and play the role of a lonely vassal." The red dragon Pelagia sneered, she was the oldest of the Dragon Clan Princesses and one of the few whose parents were both true dragons of the Dragon Kind, far superior to Drakes and Dragon Beasts.
"Too lacking in food and water." Xu Yang was well aware of the situation.
"And life is boring and hard." Pelagia’s huge tail swept back and forth across the ground, "Until you came and fixed the computers in the palace, set up the network, that was a great achievement. I could even continue the sitcom from 50 years ago, which spared me the agony of being unable to see the characters’ outcomes. If you had lived in the Near East Empire I built two thousand years ago, I would have made you the minister of engineering and bestowed upon you wealth and honor."
"Where is that past Empire?"
"The Crescent Fertile Land." Pelagia looked in the direction of the planet, "The planet had its ice and warm periods, and during ages of warm, moist temperatures, dragons established dominions all over the world. My empire was prosperous until my father ordered me to the Moon, forcing me to take temporary refuge here, leaving only fire-spitting stone tablets to guard the tomb that buried my numerous husbands. I enjoyed their challenges with trivial things, thinking they could make me feel something, and their boasts about it. Father interrupted my joy of ruling Mortals, building castles, and burning Witches. Only Wei Shiyue escaped all punishments and restraints, living freely in human society."
"Wei Shiyue seems to have trouble finding a balance between her career and personal feelings." Xu Yang inquired, "You should spend more time with her, do you have any insights?"
"Every mother dragon has experienced joy and sorrow in this world," Pelagia said with a mocking tone, "until they lay their dragon eggs, then they truly find something in this world they can control. If Wei Shiyue is suffering, there is only one possibility, and that is that her husband is incompetent. We dragons seek a propagation that is natural and in abundance, just like my father’s ridiculous actions. She is of age; she should shift her anxiety and pain onto her dragon eggs."
"So she needs..."
"Engineer, no matter what ambitions you have, know that our Dragon Clan’s humanoid appearance is but an illusion, you must sacrifice yourself to the adventure." Pelagia’s tail moved impatiently as she rose like a red mountain, her shadow completely covering Xu Yang, "Tell me, Mortal, do you have the confidence to challenge the great canyon covered with Wei Shiyue’s frost-silver scales?"
