Chapter 40: 40: Order

Sloan

I was sitting across one of my couches here in my living room, located in my wing. I’d have been completely relaxed right now, but thanks to the people present with me right now, I was the complete opposite.

"So, are you gonna tell us about the boy?" My grandfather asked this time. I pursed my lips and remained silent because I wasn’t ready to spill anything about him yet to anyone, not even to my grandfather who I liked.

"No, I’d rather not." I muttered and my grandfather laughed, but my father seethed at the other side of the room.

"I still can’t wrap my head around why you let a human spend nights in your room. Even if you fucked him, he’s not deserving enough to sleep in a Prince’s room. In case you might have forgotten, humans are slaves and nothing more. They cannot be anything other than that no matter what," my father pointed out and I rolled my eyes, ignoring his unsolicited opinion which no one asked for

After lilac left this afternoon, my room had felt stupidly empty, like something important was missing. I knew it was because the boy wasn’t present anymore, and I desperately wanted to order my butler to send for him at once, but then I didn’t want to give into that urge too easily because it was an intense urge that was genuinely worrying me a little because it was unlike anything I’ve ever felt.

I let out a huff and pushed my hair out of my face, while an image of the human appeared across my mind. An image of his sleeping was what was present, after he fdlll asleep last night, I stayed up watching him like a creep and storing all of his features in my brain. Like the fact that he had cute little freckles scattered all over his cheeks and nose.

It was honestly the cutest thing ever, and the way he slept was just so adorable— the way his lips are slightly parted in his sleep to let out small breaths, the way his lashes flutter across his cheeks, the way his nose twitches every now and then. Just staring at him and doing nothing was really soothing and I liked the sight more than I was comfortable admitting to myself just yet.

"Anyways, I was here to inform you that your three cousins have arrived." He announced and I had to suppress a groan.

I hated my three cousins, the one that he was clearly referring to. They were the first children of his three younger brothers, and I disliked them, because from a young age, they had formed a clique and liked to mess with a lot. As we grew older, I was now stronger than them combined together, but I couldn’t exactly kill them if I wanted to because of my father.

"Keep in mind that if you don’t take matters of this kingdom seriously, I’ll give the throne to one of your cousins. So, this is me informing you that you have competition for the throne on moving forward. So, if you really want this throne, you’d have to work for it.

I rolled my eyes as I sat up, and then I leaned forward. "you can do whatever you want with the throne. I don’t care about it. I’m certain you don’t want your bloodline to end so you’d never give the throne to any of my cousins anyway, you’re only bluffing right now." freew\e bnovel.com

By telling from how his face grew red from anger, it was clear that I had hit the nail on the head.

Instead of responding, my father switched topics entirely. "Your bride would be arriving soon, she should be here before tonight. We’d have to start planning the engagement soon." He announced and I couldn’t even be bothered enough to hide my scoff of irritation.

"I already told you I want nothing to do with that." I pointed out and my father bristled.

"You’ll wed this princess and get mated to her." He announced and I scoffed as I got to my feet.

"I’ll do no such thing and I’m tired of talking about this same thing every damn time, give me a break, please."

He visibly grew angrily but I couldn’t be bothered.

"That reminds me, I want to return back to school when the next semester starts." I announced and my father narrowed his eyes at me.

"You cannot return back there, Sloan. We spoke about this already, remember?"

I waved him off. "We didn’t. You just forced me to temporarily drop out after threatening to harm mother and my sister if I refused to do as you ordered." I pointed out and his nose flared for a moment before he shrugged.

"Well, I had my reasons for that. It’s for your own good and for the safety of others." He announced and I rolled my eyes.

He was just bluffing because I knew he didn’t care enough about anyone to be concerned about whoever I might hurt. As for the period I shift to my beast form every month, I always return home for that when I was in school.

"Well, enroll me back or I’ll get in myself. You know I can but I’d rather not go through the trouble of killing anyone for that." I informed him and he was back to seething again.

The school, Greenfield, is a school for only royalty, where people from different parts of the world come to school. I liked my time there, it kept me busy enough, and at least I wouldn’t have to stay here in his palace and do nothing day in and day out. There, I had a purpose— multiple purposes.

There, I had some friends as well. My life was always better whenever I was away from home, and after returning home last semester and spending a full semester at home, I’ve decided I’d like to return back. It’s always so depressing here in the palace, and so stressful knowing you can’t trust anyone and might constantly be in danger.

And another reason I wanted to return back was that I was already contemplating taking Lilac along with me. This palace was very dangerous, and after that poison scare, I wasn’t sure I’d like a repeat of that, or a different situation entirely where he’d be in grave danger here in this palace.

"You’ll not return there and that’s final," my father bit out and I snorted. He knew I could get back into the school if I wanted. I only let him control me because of what he kept holding over my head, but I was honestly starting to get tired of that.

"The next resumption is a month away. Make it happen or you know I’ll do it myself."
