Cunning General Si Ning
Chapter 261: Show

Chapter 261: Show

The sun was high up in the sky but because of the weather it wasn’t hot as the cool breeze kept blowing, it was almost midday and Si Ning and his men had been on the road for almost a day and a half, they only stop to eat, feed the horses and take turns to rest when it was nightfall. They rode their horses at full speed only to slow down when it was time for them to be cautious of their surroundings or when they get tired of the wind hitting their faces and they had to slow things down.

As a General Si Ning would have chosen to go to any of the Xilie’s army bases instead of where he was currently heading with his group but first his gut told him Ge Liang was heading in the direction he was going and after his quick study of the map in the tent when Yi Chen was explaining to him, he found out that the middle location had woods surrounding it, there could be traps laid all over in the woods or some of the armies lurking around for an ambush, it was perfect for that but the other bases were surrounded by mountains so he made sure to inform Shang Jin and Jiang ChenMu for them to assess the base from the top of the mountains and get any necessary means to know if Ge Liang was in any of them and from that they could at least be safe.

"Your Majesty it is risky for us to split up you know there is power only in masses." Song Feng said.

As usual Song Feng followed Si Ning’s group and he had been riding his horse right beside Si Ning ever since they left the campsite, Si Ning noticed something had been bothering Song Feng but he didn’t ask knowing Song Feng would probably say it so he waited only to hear Song Feng point out what he already knew.

"Then what will you have me do?" Si Ning asked, he turned his head to see Song Feng’s brows furrowed in confusion which means he didn’t even think of a solution to his statement, he just wanted to voice his opinion by dropping a quote. "Just as I thought." He muttered when Song Feng was unable to give him a reply.

If there was a better solution than splitting Si Ning would have taken it, it was hard to see his little men divided and Xiao Pei was the one that was reluctant to leave but Jiang ChenMu seemed ready to fulfil his mission, jumping up and giving instructions to his group and when he started ordering for weapons to be packed and his team overloaded with weapons like they were about to attack some terrorist group, Si Ning knew it was the right choice that he allowed Xiao Pei to go with him. The Yang people don’t go down the mountain so that was why he placed Yi Chen in their group, Yi Chen knew the ground better as the green wild tiger so he was going to help Shang Jin in getting to their assigned location on the map.

"You know Your Majesty, you had a nightmare yesterday, do you want to talk about it?" Song Feng said almost like a whisper when he moved closer to Si Ning their horses almost touching by the side and he did that so that no one would hear them.

Since the attack at the palace and the Si family residence, Si Ning had not been able to sleep properly once, he mostly stay awake most of the night and with his mind set on his aim, he used to place his nightmare behind him, it was just nightmares about Xilie attacking Xiu and him fighting, all his nightmares were about attacks but Si Ning knew the cause was because the war had been on his mind so he didn’t need to pay much attention to it and talking about it to Song Feng was totally useless so he didn’t reply and when Song Feng saw this he moved his horse, giving Si Ning some space while he wore a worried expression then he moved his horse again to Si Ning’s side but didn’t say a word.

"What?" Si Ning snapped, it was annoying how Song Feng kept using the corner of his eyes to watch him while twisting his face in a worried manner.

"If Your Majesty needs sleeping pills, I have them." Song Feng said.

Sleeping pills.

The last thing Si Ning would ever want was a sleeping pill in a time when everything was excessive, the alcohol, the poison, the wine, everything doesn’t have a medium dose, it was always high and if Si Ning ever take a sleeping pill with all the sleep he had been deprived of he was sure that he was going to sleep for a very long time without waking and maybe he was going to wake after Ge Liang assemble the Ge family army, riding over to destroy Xiu.

About Xiu, surprisingly the letter that was able to locate Si Ning last was a letter from Liu MingXia and surprisingly at the bottom was Xiu Yuan’s handwriting telling him to be safe. When Si Ning read it, his heart felt lightly like a proud brother or father because Xiu Yuan as small as he was could write well and Si Ning knew that the capital was thriving well and there had been no attack. The letter he also got from Si Nan last also indicates that the Si residence was doing well and the reserved force he left was doing well, her letter was attached with a letter from Jiang Ye also telling him he and Wei were doing well and he had also been visiting the Jiang residence in the city since the lord of the house and the future lord were away.

Pheeeww.....

Si Ning turned, kicking his horse to halt as he watched an arrow fly in the air hitting a large bird and the bird fell. It was one of his men that shot the arrow and the Archer dismounted his horse to pick up the bird and then raced over to show it to Si Ning. The bird seemed like a falcon or a hawk, Si Ning had no idea but looking at the strap on its leg he could see the bird was a messenger bird.

"General, your loyal subordinate thinks they know we are coming." The soldier told Si Ning.

"That means we are on the right track." Si Ning said.

"Get your bows where you can pick them up without a problem and get your arrows ready!" He announced before turning his horse to continue their journey.

They have only covered half of the distance so they proceed with caution after seeing the bird from Xilie. Being alert to any sound as their eyes kept darting around looking for any slight displacement in the air, they were riding on the dirt road, suddenly Si Ning halted his horse because he could hear some horses hooves, he raised his hand for his men to halt as he listened and the others listened too.

"Si Ning." Song Feng called, alarmed because the horses’ hooves were getting closer and everyone could hear it. "We need to hide behind the trees." He told Si Ning.

"Archers, draw!" Si Ning yelled as he raised his bow drawing up an arrow totally ignoring the doctor.

Song Feng snapped his head as his mouth fell open like he couldn’t believe the order Si Ning made. "Si Ning!" He yelled loud enough to grab Si Ning’s attention.

From the sounds of the horses speeding Si Ning knew his enemies were small in number so they do not need to set up an ambush, they were going to face them head on.

"Feng you should stop calling me by name or this arrow will be pointed at you" Si Ning dropped a warning as he watched them appear like tiny ants, soldiers from Xilie riding horses from a distance and he was right because before they could get to them, his men would have shot them all down but he got distracted by a man leading the small troop, he was holding something in his hand, up in the air like a form of display.

Si Ning’s heart started to beat fast afraid because deep down he knew what the man riding at the front was holding. It was when their enemies got closer he could see what the man was holding clearly, it was a head of a human, he held all the hair up so the face that seemed to be well preserved was visible, it was no other person’s head but his mother Ge Mengshu’s head.
