Cunning General Si Ning -
Chapter 227: No Response
Chapter 227: No Response
Si Ning was planning to turn just to memorize where his pieces were on the board but after seeing Jiang ChenMu he was so shocked he didn’t turn back. He only turned to Ah Dai who had an innocent look on his face which made Si Ning wonder that perhaps he sent for Jiang ChenMu instead of Chen An but that couldn’t be possible because why would he ever want to discuss his plans with Jiang ChenMu of all people. Jiang ChenMu was the last person Si Ning could ever think of needing in his army, he would think of even Wei first among the many faces he had seen in his army before thinking about Jiang ChenMu.
It was already too late for Si Ning to stop Jiang ChenMu from entering so his visitor for the day was Jiang ChenMu and it was his fault for being engrossed in the board game without lifting his head to see if it was Chen An that came with Ah Dai, if he had known he wouldn’t have allowed Jiang ChenMu in.
"Excuse me, Your Majesty." Jiang ChenMu saluted as he closed the door shut because Concubine Liu, Yang Sheng, and Ah Dai were staring at them like it was their business to know what was happening.
Si Ning stood up after sighing, he walked up to sit by the table knowing the damage was already done. "What are you doing here? You’re not Chen An." He couldn’t send Jiang ChenMu back so the least that was going to happen was to ask him why he showed up.
Jiang ChenMu took his seat opposite Si Ning, getting comfortable like he was offered to sit. "Commander Su Heng and Commander Ji Ran led the main force of the army yesterday evening and they should be in position by now." He informed Si Ning.
Si Ning frowned, when he sent for Su Heng and Ji Ran, it was in the morning and according to Jiang ChenMu, they didn’t leave till evening which means he had the chance to see them in the morning. "Chen An?" He had to know where Chen An was.
"Commander Chen An have been in the meeting of the Generals since yesterday morning and from what I heard the meeting is so intense they only had a little time to eat before resuming the meeting." Jiang ChenMu reported. "His Majesty hadn’t had a rest for the past two days." He added.
During Jiang ChenMu’s report, Si Ning was imagining how tough the meeting was going, and just hearing that Xiu Zhicheng didn’t have time to rest made him feel uncomfortable and he suddenly had the urge to see his husband but even if his house arrest was lifted he still wasn’t going to go and see him until Xiu Zhicheng apologizes for keeping him in a house arrest. Si Ning also felt that if he had been in that meeting he might have helped a great deal but he trust Chen An to also do a great job.
One thing that was disturbing was Yang Sheng giving him the wrong pieces of information, Si Ning would have loved to call him so he could explain what led to the nonsense he spouted that made Si Ning’s second-day house arrest not yield anything fruitful but Si Ning knew the servants loved following rumours and when Yang Sheng couldn’t find any of the Commanders he might have picked up the rumours and came back to inform him.
"Is his Majesty eating well?" Si Ning asked in a small voice, he hoped Jiang ChenMu didn’t hear him because he felt like a man having a soft spot for his husband even though he was on the punishment forced on him by his husband. To Xiu Zhicheng, Xiu might be above all else but to Si Ning, the family would always be above everything so he was curious if Xiu Zhicheng was eating well.
"What did General say?" Jiang ChenMu asked.
"I said will you be leading your family army?" Si Ning asked an entirely different question from his first.
"That is a responsibility for my father to carry out because I am still under General’s I mean I am under Your Majesty’s training." Jiang ChenMu told him.
"Just call me General." Si Ning said glad that Jiang ChenMu came to report to him. "What will you be doing if your father goes to war?" He had to ask the Young Master that wore a serious expression opposite him, he looked so confident like a Commander who had been commanding a large army for years.
"My father wants me to follow the Jiang army and oversee things that is why I am here General to get your permission and also report what Commander Chen An told me to report to General." Jiang ChenMu said firmly.
"You are already free from my army." Si Ning said, if he had been told Jiang ChenMu was still in his army, he would have gone to chase him out. He quite like how the young man made his report clean and straight to the point. "Just make sure you bid Si Nan farewell before you go and the most important part is to come back alive."
"Thank you, General." Jiang ChenMu had a small smile on his lips.
The door opened and Yang Sheng walked in with two cups of tea on a tray. He placed one in front of Si Ning and the other in front of Jiang ChenMu then he moved to the side to wait.
Si Ning turned to Yang Sheng and raised a brow. "So?" He narrowed his eyes at Yang Sheng.
"This Servant wants Your Majesty to check if the tea is to Your Majesty’s liking and also to Young Master Jiang." Yang Sheng replied.
The old man had been all over him since Si Ning had been locked up, Si Ning suspected that Ah Dai’s behaviour had rubbed off on Yang Sheng and it might even be Ah Dai that prepared the tea and told Yang Sheng to make sure he drank it so Si Ning sighed and took a sip, after he nodded just to show his approval, tea was tea he doesn’t have time to be grading it and Jiang ChenMu seeing this also took a sip of his tea and he also nodded. Yang Sheng bowed and finally left.
"When will this meeting likely end?" Si Ning asked, he needs to see Chen An.
"From the progress Commander Chen An told me, the meeting should be rounded up soon." Jiang ChenMu replied.
Soon was no good for Si Ning so he frowned as he started to tap the table to calm his nerves, to avoid panicking he took another sip of his tea. The tea wasn’t helping so he rubbed the side of his forehead with just two fingers putting pressure on it as he closed his eyes to think but he suddenly felt a chill behind him which made him flung his eyes open and he turned and grabbed the small knife on the table, he found himself facing Qiu Bai’s guard.
"Oi ChenMu." Si Ning called and turned to look at Jiang ChenMu only to see that the Young Master opposite him eyes were opened but vacant, Si Ning quickly leaned over and slapped his shoulder once but still no response.
Odd, so odd.
"He will wake up soon, I am here for a reply his Majesty." The guard said.
"What did you do to him?" Si Ning asked as he jumped to his feet. He doesn’t trust the guard and he had no idea if it was the scent of peril but it was so wrong because he was alright while Jiang ChenMu seemed to have physically collapsed.
"He will wake up soon." The guard repeated. "It has been three days."
Si Ning sighed, he didn’t think the guard was going to show up early so he didn’t bother to think of a reply because his reply was based on talking to his Commanders and since the war was unavoidable he didnt think Qiu Bai’s guard was still going to show up."I will join Xilie but first I have to see his Majesty Qiu Bai first." He was now willing to bet everything on himself, seeing Qiu Bai and ending it for once, and to do that he had to pretend to join Xilie.
"You cannot see his Majesty but you can see the Prime Minister." The guard replied.
"No I do not agree, I will see the Emperor of Xilie to know about what I will gain from this or I am not joining." Si Ning said.
"Very well I will deliver your message." The guard said after a moment.
The next thing was for the guard to leave so Si Ning made sure his eyes were on the guard, he was determined to see how he was going to leave but the guard did the unexpected, he brought out a smoke bomb and broke it on the floor, this created smoke everywhere and Si Ning swung his small knife for self-defense only for the smoke to clear to reveal an empty space where the guard stood.
Gone?
"General?"
Si Ning turned to see Jiang ChenMu looking confused as he kept looking around. "You can leave Jiang ChenMu." He was glad that Jiang ChenMu woke up.
Now was the time for him to strategize, he was going to see Qiu Bai and end him with his two hands once and for all. The war between Xiu and Xilie wasn’t going to take place. Si Ning said determined as he watched Jiang ChenMu bowed and left, soon after Yang Sheng came in to clear the table leaving only Si Ning’s cup to refill.
