Chapter 89: I think you are obsessed with me.
Alexander silently followed Silas, throwing occasionally glances back at the unconscious vampire that he had come to care for.
They come to a stop in a small library that had huge volumes of scrolls and books neatly arranged on shelves.
"I think you are obsessed with me." Silas murmured, both concerned and impressed with how consistent the vampire in his arms was.
"It’s in an old grimoire somewhere in the neighboring kingdom. We will need to travel." Silas answered as his eyes scanned the paper in his hand, recalling fragments of a spell he wished he could forget about.
His friend had been kind enough to lay him on the couch and Silas stood by his side for a while, watching his sleeping face.
Ebenezer Ashford intrigued him.
It was starting to get dark outside and he was in... a bed.
"That smells nice." Ebenezer noted as he inhaled the scent of fresh food that no longer made him hungry but still delighted his senses.
"The spell I cast four hundred years ago contained elements of very ancient and forbidden magic. I have a copy of the spell but to break the curse, I will need the reversal spell." Silas trailed off as he tiptoed and pulled out a small sroll that was carefully hidden behind several books.
The thought was reasonable and with a soft sigh, he placed Ashford on a bed and covered him with a blanket before he walked out of the room and headed back to his library.
He was simply pleased to be having a decent meal after days of surviving on dried meat and bread.
He had no memory of how he had gotten into the room but he remembered Silas rendering him unconscious with just a flick of his hand.
The only reason Alexander had agreed to make the trip was because Damon’s life deepened on it and he was out of options.
He found Alexander busy cooking something in the kitchen and his eyes swept the room for Silas, frowning slightly when he couldn’t see the wizard.
Silas had hundreds of enemies but none had been as persistent in hunting him down when compared to the unconscious vampire that lay perfectly still.
"No, I am not, but we can begin in the obsidian mountains. That’s the most clear clue I have on the book’s last known appearance." Silas said calmly and Alexander felt his throat tighten in anger as he glared at the wizard in disbelief.
He tried to calm his erratic heart beat and think before he made a mistake that could ensure he met the same fate as Ebenezer.
It was infuriating and with renewed determination to torture the wizard, Ebenezer made his way out of bed.
"We live tomorrow just after dawn, get yourself a room and rest. I will deal with Ashford." The wizard shooed him away, barely sparing him a glance.
Maybe he just didn’t have anything he really cared about anymore.
"A reversal spell?" Alexander frowned as he watched the wizard roll out the small piece of paper, blowing on it lightly to remove the dust that had settled over the years.
He knew the reason Ashford was after him was to get revenge but even though his reason for wanting him dead made sense, Silas doubted he could have been as persistent if he had been in the vampire’s shoes.
"He left? You let him leave!" His voice held a disbelieving tone that had Alexander grimace slightly as he turned to face the vampire whose mood was now sour.
"We both know that there was not much I could have done to stop him from leaving and besides, I promised to burn down his house if he did come back." Alexander smirked and Ebenezer relaxed, his eyes impressed as nodded in approval.
Alexander intently watched the wizard calmly flipping through books and scrolls, completely ignoring his existence.
After an hour of looking for more precise locations of the book he sought, Silas made his way downstairs.
"Fiance? Now that’s interesting." Silas murmured like he had not heard the rest of what Alexander had said.
His golden eyes that were normally dull flickered with a hint of curiosity as he looked at the vampire that was no longer on the floor.
Alexander inhaled sharply to keep himself sane, making a silent promise to help Ebenezer complete his mission when the was conscious again.
"No, thank you. It will be a waste." He turned him down and Alexander shrugged, hungrily eating his meal.
Alexander found himself a room on the first floor, dropping his bag down with a frustrated sigh before he fell back, his eyes locking onto the ceiling.
"Good evening to you too." Alexander teased and Ebenezer rolled his eyes as he walked over to see what the man was cooking.
"Me too." He agreed.
"Do you want some?" Alexander asked as he plated his dinner and Ebenezer was tempted to say yes even though he knew that the food couldn’t be digested.
"I think I am getting used to having you around." Ebenezer admitted, his voice friendly and Alexander smiled faintly as he stirred his food to keep it from burning.
"Where is Silas?" He asked and Alexander glanced at him over his shoulder, smirking subtly.
....
"Silas let me use his kitchen before he left a while ago." Alexander replied and Ebenezer’s mood darkened.
His light silver hair was ruffled in a way that made little shadows dance across his closed eyes and a small smirk curled up on Silas’ lips as he reached out and carried the vampire off the chair.
"Somewhere, you are not sure of the location of this book?" Alexander’s frown deepened as he glared at the nonchalant wizard.
Once he was done, he told Ebenezer all about Silas’ plan to make them search for a book whose location wasn’t accurate. Correct content is on
"Last known appearance? You are not even sure this book will be in those mountains? This is my fiance’s life you are messing with!" Alexander snapped, his chest heaving as his fingers itched to just reach for his blade and end the life of the wizard that was only getting on his nerves with each word he said.
Three hours later, Ebenezer’s eyes had no trouble adjusting to the dark and his eyes were alert as he looked out of the small window in his room.
It was either working with Silas or nothing and Alexander hated how helpless he felt just thinking about his options.
