Chapter 88: I hate him very much
"I am going to ki...." Ebenezer growled as he readied himself to pounce on the wizard but Alexander hurriedly stepped in front of him, cutting off his view of Silas.
"Hello, I am Alexander." He held out his hand for a handshake, his voice stern.
"Beaumont." Silas acknowledged the gesture with a small nod, not really knowing what to do with it.
Mirth danced in his amber coloured eyes as he looked at Ebenezer who was glaring at him before he turned his back and walked in.
"Follow me." Silas called out as he walked into his house, not really bothered that the two men he had left behind were gawking at him.
"I hate him very much." Ebenezer hissed as he watched the wizard’s retreating back.
"Your feelings are totally valid but before you kill him, let’s first find out why he let us come to him." Alexander suggested and Ebenezer bit down on his tongue.
"Fine." He mumbled before he followed Alexander inside.
The house had a much larger interior than they had expected as they walked further into the sitting room.
"Why did you let us walk through the barrier?" Alexander’s voice was suspicious as he looked at the wizard that was casually standing beside a window, looking outside with his arms folded in front of his chest.
"I knew you were coming." The wizard cast a bored glance in their direction before looking back at the scenery outside the window.
"I am guessing you know why." Ebenezer drawled as he mentally calculated the steps he could need to reach for Silas’ throat as first as possible.
"You both to want to kill me." He stated matter of factly and Alexander was inwardly impressed with how calmly the wizard was taking all that was happening.
It was like he was untouchable and they were just a bunch of insects wasting his time.
It was actually quite annoying.
"Killing you is my second option. My first is getting you to break Damon’s curse." Alexander pointed out and Silas finally turned away from the window and fully looked at them.
His chiseled face held a faint trace of boredom perfectly mixed with indifference as he walked towards a chair and sat down, his eyes still pinned on his visitors.
"I had figured as much. Take a seat." He gestured to the couch opposite from him and the glare on Ebenezer face was permanent as he sat beside Alexander.
"I will help you break the curse." Silas said, surprising Alexander who had thought he was going to have to argue and fight.
"Why the sudden change of heart. You didn’t break it for me." Ebenezer pointed out, his voice trembling slightly from anger.
Silas’ eyes met his in a fixed gaze before the wizard tore his eyes away from him, glancing back at the window.
He needed to make sure his troublesome visitors had not been followed.
"Once one has lived for as long as I have, revenge no longer feels so fulfilling." Silas answered and Ebenezer felt his blood boil.
"Oh, that’s rich coming from someone like you." Ebenezer snarled as he lunged forward, his hands going for Silas’ throat.
With a brief snap of Silas’ finger, Ebenezer slumped onto the floor, unconscious.
"What did you do to him?" Alexander asked, mortified as he looked at the unmoving vampire, getting a glimpse into his fate if he tried to attack Silas as well.
"Nothing fatal, he will be awake in a few hours. Should we start?" Silas asked as he stood from his chair and climbed up a staircase.
Alexander silently followed him, throwing occasionally glances back at the unconscious vampire that he had come to care for.
They come to a stop in a small library, that had huge volumes of scrolls and books neatly arranged on shelves.
"The spell I cast four hundred years ago contained elements of very ancient and forbidden magic. I have a copy of the spell but to break the curse, I will need the reversal spell." Silas trailed off as he tiptoed and pulled out a small sroll that was carefully hidden behind several books.
"A reversal spell?" Alexander frowned as he watched the wizard roll out the small piece of paper, blowing on it lightly to remove the dust that had settled over the years.
"It’s in an old grimoire somewhere in the neighboring kingdom. We will need to travel." Silas answered as his eyes scanned the paper in his hand, recalling fragments of a spell he wished he could forget about.
"Somewhere? You are not sure of the location of this book?" Alexander’s frown deepened as he glared at the nonchalant wizard.
"No, I am not, but we can begin in the obsidian mountains. That’s the most clear clue I have on the book’s last known location." Silas said calmly and Alexander felt his throat tighten in anger as he glared at the wizard in disbelief.
He tried to calm his erratic heart beat and think before he made a mistake that could ensure he met the same fate as Ebenezer.
"Last known location? You are not even sure this book will be in those mountains? This is my fiance’s life you are messing with!" Alexander snapped, his chest heaving as his fingers itched to just reach for his blade and end the life of the wizard that was only getting on his nerves with each word he said.
"Fiance? Now that’s interesting." Silas murmured like he had not heard the rest of what Alexander had said.
Alexander inhaled sharply to keep himself sane, making a silent promise to help Ebenezer complete his mission when the vampire was conscious again.
Alexander intently watched the wizard calmly flipping through books and scrolls, completely ignoring his existence.
"We live tomorrow just after dawn, get yourself a room and rest. I will deal with Ashford." The wizard shooed him away, barely sparing him a glance.
Alexander found himself a room on the first floor, dropping his bag down with a frustrated sigh before he fell back, his eyes locking onto the ceiling.
He barely had two weeks to break the curse and find his way back to Damon and Alexander was terrified he didn’t have enough time to do both.
