For some reason, I stood up from the chair I was sitting on when I noticed the shocked expressions on Zach and Zion’s faces, but Zion was the first to speak.
"Mom, Dad, what are you doing here, and how did you find out about this tribe?"
His suspicious look made me distrust their parents before even getting to know them.
"Zion, what’s so difficult about discovering this tribe when it’s among the top three? I have to admit that Zach did an amazing job, and we heard that he found his mate, so we came to congratulate him," their father said smoothly, but all I felt was discomfort.
"Well, you’re not welcome here," Zach said seriously. I was stunned for a moment before recalling the story I had heard about his father’s refusal to give him justice against Zion.
"Zach, you may still be angry, but..." he was saying when Zach cut him off. "Leave, or I will make you."
In that brief heated moment, Iris made a move towards me, but I quickly dodged.
"You think you can take the ball from me? Let’s see," I said daringly before smashing the crystal moon ball on the floor.
It was too late for their father to stop me this time because of the little argument he had with Zach, and instantly, a shrill cry tore from Iris’s throat, while Ivy looked like she had seen a ghost.
"Do you know what you have done?" Iris yelled, hastening towards me with dark eyes. I was ready to defend against her attack, but Zach swiftly intercepted her movement.
His long fingers were wrapped around her throat, choking her, while Ivy grabbed his arm. "Zach, what are you doing?"
Zach didn’t respond, but his other hand was wrapped around Ivy’s throat as well, suffocating the twin sisters.
A realization seemed to have dawned on the tribe members because their anger was now directed towards the twins as well. "Alpha, you have to kill them," they roared, and I began to wonder what was happening.
"Zach, please don’t do this," Ivy pleaded, but Zach didn’t look like he was going to stop.
"You two were in cahoots with Kari, and you watched me abuse my mate to the point where I almost killed her."
The anger in his voice was palpable, and I had never seen so much fear in the eyes of the twins as I did today.
"You even call yourself a demi-god, so on second thoughts, you have been the one behind all the spells we have been experiencing around this tribe."
Indeed, he pieced everything together perfectly, and the tribe members were also in agreement.
"Alpha, they should die in the brazen bull," one of them said. Gaius noticed my confusion and informed me, "they were all under a spell, and I think it was linked to that crystal ball you broke."
Iris wanted to say something but was clearly restricted by the choke. "Zach, please let her speak," I pleaded. His grip on her loosened, while his parents watched helplessly.
"Beta Gaius, it’s all your fault. If you hadn’t countered our spells, everything would have worked perfectly."
"Prepare the brazen bull," Zach ordered in a strangely calm tone. Confusion creased our minds, though the warriors were already acting on the order. "Zach, are you crazy to put your sisters in a brazen bull?"
Their mother finally spoke up. Zach glared at her. "The moment you both refused to give me justice, I understood that I had no parents. I thought I told you to leave, so what are you still doing here?"
Zach asked in annoyance. Ivy let out, "they are the main culprits, so how could you let them leave?"
Her revelation shook the whole tribe, and the magnitude of it caused Zach’s hold on her neck to loosen. "What did you say?"
I don’t know how, but the parents seemed too afraid of the children, and I didn’t know what to do about everything.
"Since you condemned us to die, mom and dad should come with us too. You think they left to search for immortality? Well, yes, but why would they want to live eternally when their children are all grown and already taking good care of their tribes?"
That rhetorical question made sense. It seemed to me that the parents never wanted to hand over the tribe, which was why they refused Zach justice.
Thinking of which, I remembered how he carried my mom to the pack house. Was he not allergic to her as the rumors said?
There was so much at stake that I wasn’t able to ask him, but right now, this was also a matter of great importance.
"So, you took advantage of my greed, making me feel as if you liked me," Zion said bitterly.
"You let me have the position despite knowing I cheated because you know I’m not as strong as Zach. It will be easy for you to take back whatever you have given me." His astute analysis left Zach dumbfounded.
"For goodness’ sake, are you even our real mother?" He asked with confusion, while his father looked unperturbed.
"Sorry to disappoint you, but we are indeed your real parents, and I command you to let us and your sisters go."
Clearly, Zach would have wished for some other miraculous parents, but now, the tables didn’t look like they were ever going to turn.
Zach was about to answer, but the voice of one of the warriors interrupted. "Alpha, the brazen bull is here."
The twins’ faces were drained of color, and I wondered if they would put up some form of resistance. A demi-god shouldn’t give up so easily, right?
Perhaps it was time to provoke her to react in order for her sentence to be increased. "Iris, you said no one could kill you, but trust me, it’s going to happen like rain."
She ignored me and turned to Zach, hoping for some miracle, which I knew could only be in preparation for her death.
"Zach, you can’t kill a demi-god," Iris yelled, while Ivy countered, "Are you even still a god?" The Crimson Moon tribe members shuddered.
It was as if realization was just hitting them, which seemed strange, but Zach was not taking chances.
"Put Iris in the brazen bull first," he ordered. It was shocking that the warriors were already dragging Iris, but Ivy grabbed hold of Zach’s hands and pleaded, "Zach, please, we can do anything."
For a moment, I was also stunned by the command. As ruthless as he was, I never knew it would extend to the members of his direct family, especially one I heard he loved and doted on.
Now I was beginning to understand that, though under a spell, Zach’s judgment would always be based on the crime and not on personal sentiments or wolfy instincts. "Anything like what?"
Zach paused and asked with a look of interest. Disappointment washed over me when I saw hope rising in Ivy’s eyes.
"We can live as omegas. After all, we have no powers anymore," she revealed. I was confused, but Zach asked the question. "How can you not have your powers as a demi-god?"
"How could I have it when she broke the crystal moon ball?" Iris asked sarcastically, making me understand the reason she kept pleading for me not to break the ball.
If I hadn’t, then she would have still had her powers and would have been able to cast a spell on Zach like she always did. Good thing she didn’t have the power to do so anymore.
"Zach, please," Iris pleaded desperately as she was being shoved into the brazen bull, reminding me of when I suffered the same fate, except I was innocent of the accusations.
Just like it happened to me, Zach was unmoved by her pleas when the fire was set under the brazen bull.
"You are lucky it can only take one person at a time," he said coldly to Ivy. The latter tried to run, but the warriors restricted her.
"Zach, you moron. All we wanted was to rule the world. It isn’t just your tribe, so why are you being heartless? Besides, Iris loves you..." She choked on tears, but Zach maintained a cold expression.
"Iris only loves herself. To think that I mourned for her and almost killed my mate for her, you all have to pay for contributing to it." The screams died down, indicating Iris was gone, but the brazen bull was not opened until another thirty minutes, where all that remained were ashes.
"Ivy is next," Zach ordered. Ivy’s shrills tore through my ears once again, but even the tribe members were against her, having all been under their spell.
"Where do you think you are going?" I heard Gaius say and turned to his direction. It was Zach’s parents, and I guess they were trying to escape.
"What? You think it’s easy to watch my kids burned? Wait till Madam Superior gets here," he said, just as the screams from the brazen bull ended and a sudden coldness filled the atmosphere.
"This is exactly how I wanted to meet you all," a cold voice said. It was Madam Superior.
