Chapter 48: Everything began to change (Alpha Zion)

Pausing for a moment, I processed his words, which stunned me. ’Are you saying that you felt the same pains Bella has been experiencing since last night?’

If that were true, then he might indeed be the father of her pup, but how was that possible?

’Zion, I think you’ve lost your mind. The fact that she’s having a pup has nothing to do with me. It’s all your fault for draining my blood for her.’

The memory of that fateful day did nothing to dispel my suspicions because the only outcome of my actions would be that the pup would share DNA with Zach and resemble him, which was already the case. However, Zach wouldn’t feel the labor pains if he wasn’t the father.

’Zach, admit that you made a mistake, unless you haven’t been with any she-wolf in the last nine months. Everyone thinks you’re perfect, but it seems you’re just an insecure, egocentric Alpha,’ I cursed, sensing his anger through our mindlink.

’Zion, I don’t make mistakes, and even if I did, it has to do with Kari, but that witch is not the woman from that night.’

So, there was a night. I was only testing him when I posed the question, but now, my perfect twin brother didn’t seem so perfect anymore.

’Let me guess, was it your engagement night with Kari? Because Bella lost her virginity to a man she doesn’t remember during that same night. She always had a wig on, so you had no idea she has red hair,’ I hinted, recalling everything Bella told me about that night. There was a deafening silence, though the mindlink was not cut off.

Still, it wasn’t what I expected when I finally heard his voice. Zach was laughing hysterically.

’So, this is how you both plan to pin a bastard on me? Well, I’ve been searching for the woman from that night, as well as the one who saved my life, and guess what?" he asked. I was slightly confused. "What?" I asked through the mindlink. He responded.

’I found her mother,’ he revealed. I was a little hopeful. ’Great, can you tell me her location? Bella has been trying to find her,’ I implored, but Zach’s response only made me feel foolish about the whole thing.

’Didn’t you claim that she was the one who saved me? How then does she not know where her mother or father is?’

For a moment, I almost lost the argument before remembering Bella’s words about the separation.

’Indeed, she separated from her mother at the age of eight, exactly one year after she saved your life, and now she’s trying to find her,’ I explained. However, Zach refused to listen to reason.

’Stop it, Zion. The witch is manipulating you. The mother of the red-haired girl who saved me is a vampire but has been rejected by her kind for birthing the red haired girl and now lives in caves. Shouldn’t that witch be a vampire too if her mother is one? Don’t worry, I’m going to find her and prove that the witch has been deceiving you all along."

The shock of the situation was overwhelming, except we seemed to be talking about two different people. I had expected Bella’s mother to be a Lycan or a she-wolf, considering Bella’s dual nature, but now my mind was clouded with confusion that refused to dissipate.

’I see you are at a loss for words. If you confirm my words later, remember to bring her to me for punishment. She is responsible for Iris’s death, in case you have forgotten.

The mindlink disconnected, but I was still stunned. However, I reassured myself that whoever Zach had found wasn’t Bella’s mother.

The sound of the crying pup snapped me out of my daze, and out of compassion, I picked him up while Dina tended to Bella. Everything felt so natural that I almost felt like the pup was mine.

There had to be an explanation for what Zach had said, and not being able to discuss it with Bella made it challenging, as she wanted nothing to do with Zach.

I was confident that I would uncover the truth in time. For now, I mindlinked our chef to bring some baby food when I saw Dina preparing some for the pup. However, when she tried to feed it to him, he spat it out.

"He wants his mother’s milk, Alpha, but..." Dina’s eyes welled up with tears, and fear gripped me. "But what..."

Bella was still unconscious, so I couldn’t determine what was wrong with her at the moment. "Bella, she..." Dina struggled to speak through tears, causing worry to pierce my heart. Her shamanistic practices only fueled my anger.

"Out with it, Dina. I don’t have time to waste," I said in a slightly cold tone, snapping her out of her trance or whatever incantation she was chanting before.

"Alpha, she’s in a coma, and I don’t know when she will wake up," Dina explained.

My body went numb as she continued to speak. "The transformation was too hard on her, so her brain is taking time to process everything."

Looking at Bella’s lifeless body on the floor and hearing the deafening sound of her pup’s tears, I momentarily forgot that I was an Alpha.

"Hold the pup and let me get her into the hut. Apphia might wake up any time soon, and I don’t want her to know about all that has transpired," I reminded Dina. She nodded eagerly, but neither of us could stop the pup’s bawling.

Suddenly, I remembered the stories Mom and Dad used to tell us about our childhood.

I was the only one who enjoyed breastmilk because Zach had taken a liking to carrot juice. What if we try the liquid portions of the foods Bella ate during her pregnancy?

After instructing the chef on what to do, it wasn’t long before Beta Madai arrived with the food. "How is my mate?" he asked worriedly. I ignored his question and took the requested items from him. "First things first."

As soon as a drop of carrot juice touched the tongue of the newborn pup, everything began to change.
