Chapter 36: Not leaving without her (Alpha Zach)

Even amidst the chaos, I was determined to end the life of that witch. Until she was gone, I couldn’t mark another, so I had to complete what I had started almost a month ago.

My healers had concocted a temporary potion, and I hoped for a permanent solution soon. However, as for Zion, the Alpha of my birth pack, I couldn’t wait to put him in his place.

After consuming the serum, I shifted and grabbed my clothes with my gloves in my mouth before darting into the woods.

The witch had to be eliminated, and as I approached my former pack, a familiar sensation washed over me, overshadowed by the betrayals I had endured.

Upon reverting to human form, Tubal remained oddly quiet, perhaps having learned his lesson and agreeing with me that the witch needed to die.

Dressing quickly and putting on my gloves that I had dropped upon arrival, I leaped over the fence, reminiscent of the times we used to chase down criminals, making sure to avoid any patrols.

Approaching the small house, I utilized my special skills to unlock the door and confirmed that it was indeed occupied. In the bedroom, I found her peacefully asleep.

How could she be at peace when I was still grieving the loss of my beloved sister? Sensing my presence, she reached for the light switch, and I seized the opportunity to strike, but she skillfully evaded my attack.

Despite my desire to end her and escape before Zion discovered, she proved to be a formidable opponent. I had to acknowledge her as the strongest she-wolf I had ever encountered, but I was determined to ensure her demise that night.

Eventually, Zion arrived and uttered the most absurd statement I had ever heard. "How can this witch save me? Are you even listening to yourself?"

It was foretold that by the age of eighteen, the red-haired girl would be serving in the coven until I found her, and that was where I discovered Kari, though tracing back the coven after so many years proved to be a challenge.

Being thousands of miles away and with the changes of nature, much had changed, presenting numerous obstacles. It was difficult to believe that Kari was not the one but If not Kari, then who? This witch? Never.

A vile woman like her would never have the empathy to do what that kind-hearted little red-haired girl did. Furthermore, this witch had been an omega for years, shifting from one tribe to another.

How did she manage to deceive him into believing she was the one who saved me, and why did she have two marks?

No she-wolf can be marked twice, so this mark must be the reason why I couldn’t trace her. It seemed unlikely that this tribe had a protective wolf.

"Zach, she’s the one because she knows the details of what happened that day," Zion interrupted my thoughts, but I was deeply upset that he fell for her lies.

"That’s enough. She will know because she’s a witch, and that’s how she caused the disappearance of Iris’s corpse. I am not leaving here without her, and she must tell me who the protective wolf is."

Fear shone in her eyes, but she still had her arms wrapped around her stomach. I almost succeeded, but now it was certain that the protective wolf was still shielding her from me, and that’s why she’s still alive after all I’ve done to her.

I was so close to ripping out her womb, and yet Zion stood in my way.

"Then you have to kill me first, and you know what that means," Zion threatened, using our twin bond.

When we were younger, our parents had potions prepared to bond our souls, lest one of us kill the other because of the Alpha position.

With that potion in our system, if one twin dies, the other will immediately follow, and I was greatly pained he was resolving to that.

Contemplating my options, I felt soft hands wrap around me. I turned to see two she-wolves, swiftly rendering them unconscious. Zion looked shocked and afraid.

"Have you overcome your allergies?" He teased me. Regardless, I needed to leave before the effect wore off.

"You haven’t changed, Zion. Still resorting to the same old tricks. If you want me to spare her tonight, reveal the identity of the protective wolf. Hand him over in exchange for her."

Given Zion’s protectiveness towards the witch, he would likely sacrifice the protective wolf for her, unless he wasn’t part of this tribe.

"No, Zach, the only option is for both of us to perish today. Bella is carrying my pup, ensuring someone to lead my tribe in the next eighteen years. What about you?"

I had no heir, unlike Zion. How could he stoop to such a level?

"She’s not your mate. What have you done?" My mark on her prevented either of us from being marked. Even if she was Zion’s mate, he wouldn’t be able to claim her.

"It doesn’t matter that she isn’t mine, I intend to make her the Luna of this tribe for what she did for you."

"Cut the crap. She’s deceiving you, and it’s just a matter of time before this tribe is destroyed because of her," I tried to warn him, but he wouldn’t listen.

"Let that be my problem."

As unyielding as he was, I wasn’t ready to let the witch live. Not killing him did not mean I could not hurt him enough to get to her.

"Since you are proving stubborn, then don’t blame me for this." Walking closer, I lifted and threw him against the wall. He came tumbling down with the wall paintings as I hastened towards the witch. But before my hand could reach her, Zion’s arms wrapped around my neck.

He was pulling me back, but all I had to do was rise up and crash my back against the wall, causing him to fall. But before I reached her, something hard was used to hit me on the face.

It was a broken piece from the bed, cutting my face, but my wolf quickly healed me. "You can come at me all you want, but I won’t let you hurt him," the witch snarled as if she cared.

I know a fake when I see one, and she was surely it. Before she could hurl another piece of furniture, I caught and used it on her stomach. She fell, and my lips stretched into a thin smile when I saw the blood between her thighs.
